Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2015

halloweenqHappy Halloween to ALL of you! I’m getting ready for the little ghosts and goblins who will be knocking, knocking, knocking at our door! And by ready, I mean I’m doing many taste-tests of the Butterfingers, Heath Bars, and the rest >>> just to be sure they’re up to my standards. (In other words, I made the mistake of opening the candy bags before 6:00 PM!)
October has been here and is ready to make its exit. Hope you all have enjoyed the month, and are ready for tonight’s festivities >>> whether you’re attending a Halloween party, are Trick-or-Treating, or are staying home to dole out the candy.
halloweenuAnd, as a “P.S.” >>> don’t forget to roll your clocks back an hour >>> getting a extra hour to do what you most want to do!

Happy Halloween! We get maybe 3 trick-or-treaters each year. We live in the boondocks, actually, the boondocks might be bigger :).
However, that doesn’t stop me from buying a few bags of candy each year “just in case”. My downfall has been the discovery of the Nutrageous bar by Reeeses (I think). Pass the stomach pump. A happy and safe weekend to all!

Anne, it sounds like you want to be as ready for a big night of Halloween trick or treaters as I do! I love your “just in case” scenario. I don’t know what the Nutrageous bar is, but as a consumer who likes to be up-to-date >>> I am now on a personal mission to find out!

I don’t get more than a handful of trick or treaters. Most children in area have grown up and moved away. The very few that are left go to the Mall.
Love the Cozy mystery books. They’re the best to read and enjoy.

Sharon B, I remember taking our children to the mall a few times when they were young. I’m glad to hear they are still doing that.

Even if we got very few trick or treaters, I’m afraid that with my love for chocolate, to borrow from Anne (comment above) I’d buy a few bags of choco bars >>> “just in case”!

Deb, that’s a shame they don’t trick or treat in your apartment complex. The little ones are just adorable to see >>> and hear saying “twick or eat”!

Happy Halloween! We live in an 55+ adult community and the rules prohibit kids from coming to trick-or-treat. Soooo, I don’t buy candy as I’ll eat it all, not a good thing 🙂
Miss the kids coming to the door as Halloween is my favorite holiday, even over Christmas. I do decorate so that helps.
    Have a fun night.

Judy, our dog would have benefited from the no trick or treaters rule. My husband would take her on her nightly walk before the children were out since costumes scared her. We then had to put up baby gates so that she couldn’t go to the door when I opened it for the trick or treaters. It was sort of a chaotic night for us.

Heh–I’m out at the opera this evening … a big treat for me from a friend, but more of a trick on the kids.

In apartments it seems most of the kids go to parties elsewhere … probably suburbia 🙂

Danna, have fun appreciating the kids’ costumes and delighting the children! The very best houses are always the ones where you get CHOCOLATE!

My hubby and I learned a long time ago to only purchase treats we can’t stand thus, there are no left overs for us to indulge in as we don’t need the extra sugar high or calories not, that it would matter 🙂 We just like to THINK we’re doing the right thing.

Treaters are less each year in our neighborhood 🙁 When we moved in before most of you reading this were born, we were the youngest in the neighborhood needless to say, we are now the oldest 🙂 It’s amazing we’re still here as we moved here with the thought of only staying 5 yrs well, lets just say we’ve blown way past that and we’re heading toward 50 🙂 LOL

Be safe everyone and have a wonderful Halloween and PSA here…1) Put out a green light starting tomorrow for the month of November to honor all of our veterans. 2) Make sure you FALL BACK an hour and not forward :)! 3) Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. That’s all for now 🙂 Peace out!!!!

“Old Grandma”, we’ve thought about getting candy we don’t like to give out, but then we wouldn’t be able to taste-test for quality control! We rarely eat candy these days, so October 31 is a day I look forward to >>> not only because of the trick or treaters!

Trick or Treating started at 5 pm and runs until 7 pm. We give out pens and pencils. It alleviates the temptation of eating all the candy goodies. We had almost 300 between 5 pm and 6:20 p.m. That’s when we ran out of our supplies. I love the little ones that come but it just disgusts me to see older kids and adults coming around.

I never mind older children and adults as long as they’re with the little ones, dressed in costume, take what I give (no snarky remarks) and remember their thank yous when they leave.
This year the weather, a bum knee, and a very excitable dog kept me inside with no porch light burning.

      Happy All Saints’ Day!

ML, I hope your knee improves soon. Halloween was a terrible night for our Sprite. We tried taking her upstairs with one of the children, but that never worked. We had to put up baby gates so to keep her away from the front door because she barked so much she would scare the little ones. So, I can identify with “a very excitable dog”!

Robin, L.C., that’s a whole lot of trick or treaters! No wonder you ran out of pens and pencils.

Well, of course you have to taste-test things. You have to make sure they haven’t gone bad, or that they don’t taste nasty, before you give them out!

Hope you and everyone on here enjoys their Halloween!

We have seen the trick-or-treat crowd wax and wane. When we first moved to this area, we only had the immediate neighbor kids. The next year, people that were not in the community, but more rural, found us. We had lots and lots and lots that year. After that, things settled down to 30-40 every year. The kids grew up and moved away and new kids moved in to replace them. But for the last three or four years, the count has been down to 10 or less each year. I have most of a bag of candy left and hubby was giving it out by the large handful. Now what do I do with the leftovers? I got mostly things we do not like.

Joan in VA, there you go! Next year be sure to get things you and your husband do like, then you won’t have a problem “disposing” of the candy that you didn’t treat-out!

Just had a massive birthday party for my (very medically involved) little boy. Besides my kids & grandkids, all the kids from the block were here. I think between the pizza party, ice cream cake, (and chips, candies, party favors, etc) and the live entertainment (2 singers, a keyboard player, and a magic & juggling show) — and a bunch of volunteers dressed as minions (which my son loves) — they probably got a better deal than they could have trick or treating!

I didn’t even turn my porch light on for the first time ever – older neighborhood, knew none of my neighbors would. Kinda makes me sad, always loved to see the little ones dressed up & never begrudged the few older ones I would get. It’s just a couple pieces of mini candy once a year. Hope everyone had a great holiday. On to turkey day.

Carolyn, you aren’t kidding about “On to turkey day.” I have to finish the very end of my last Halloween Cozy for the season, and then on and forward! (I’m sorry you weren’t able to see any of the little ones dressed up. It’s truly the best part of this particular holiday!)
