I hope ALL of you in the USA are enjoying your days off and that you ALL have very safe weekends.
We are staying home for a rather quiet long weekend. Both our son and daughter will be here with us, so it will be wonderful for me! (And hopefully for them!)
Now that Sprite is no longer with us, the (illegal) firecrackers going off all over our neighborhood won’t be a bother to us. Sprite (our 16 1/2 year old puppy) didn’t enjoy all of the festivities.
Again, I hope you all have a safe three-day Fourth of July weekend!
Maria, oh my gosh, pulled pork sounds terrific! We had our “squirrel-carpenter” here on the Fourth, and I felt guilty barbecuing steaks while we toiled on our chimney. (I’ve had to take down all of our bird feeders, and get rid of the big bird bath. I still have the hanging bird bath so that birds can still get to it. We’ve had this carpenter out here four different times to patch up what the squirrels did. His wife agreed to him working on the Fourth as long as he took Saturday off.)
Started off Friday with the newest Molly Murphy by Rhys Bowen, finished that Friday night, then for some reason I started a book that was NOT a mystery (don’t know why, just happens once every few years LOL) — that took all day Saturday… book was enjoyable enough novel, in its own way, but hey — I could have read another 2 cozies in that time LOL! Last night started the newest China Bayles & am almost halfway through that. There is really not nearly halfway enough time to read all the books I want to read!
Danna, hope you and yours have a Happy Fourth too! Our son is in W.A. and our daughter is in N.C. so we will be spending the holiday with our fairly new rescue dog, Abby. We don’t know how she’ll react. However, the monsoon started here in Tucson yesterday and she wouldn’t eat so could be iffy. Bette Davis was 14 and passed in Oct. so we’re learning all over again! Anyway, I’ll be reading all afternoon!
Cyn, let us know how Abby reacted to all of the racket. I saw some things called “Thundershirts” on TV that I probably would have tried with Sprite. I wonder if they really work…
(I’m sorry to hear about your Bette Davis. I know that losing a beloved pet is something that takes a long time to get over.)
Happy 4th of July. Hope your weather is better than Connecticut’s. We are suppose to get some rain from “Hurricane Arthur” today (so far just cloudy); but Saturday and Sunday – Sunny! That is when I will be celebrating with friends/family.
Happy 4th to Tessa and all. just joined and like this site. Here in Garrison MN its 86, humid with some breeze. Live on one of 10,000 lakes in Mn and love to read. Spending the 4th with husband, 130lb Newfoundland named Lizzie Borden and 90lb lab Luke. Water dogs from the get-go. have a good summer where ever you are.
Sandy, my husband and I have talked about places we would love to move to, and you live in one of those places. I’ll just bet that Lizzie Borden and Luke love that lake! I hope you (and they!) had a great Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth to you and your family!!! Junior the Cat and Scamper the Cat hate fireworks. We’re not that fond of them either. Makes it hard to read!
Now the BBQ and pulled pork part of the Fourth of July–that’s a keeper!

Have a happy 4th! As for me, yesterday was a “good library day” — I’ve got so many great new cozies to read, doubt I’ll come up for air all weekend!
