SO HAPPY to see Joan Hess is writing another book in the Claire Malloy series after a lo-o-o-o-ng absence of 4 years. I really enjoy this series. (I’m not a fan of the Maggody series, although most others I know really like it).
Also pleased Maddy Hunter has written another book in the Passport to Peril series after five years.

MJ… I could not believe it when I saw the new Claire Malloy mystery. I actually found Joan Hess by trying her first Maggody mystery. I became hooked on that crazy town. I then added the Claire Malloy series to my favorites, also. I didn’t think I could possibly like it as much as I liked the Maggody series, but I did. I now prefer the Claire Malloy mystery series.

As soon as I saw your list, I went on my library’s website to request the books I like. Very few of them were preordered. I guess the economy is hurting them, too.

If anyone is looking for a great series of books. Look up Bill Crider. His Sheriff Dan Rhodes books are really a great read. There are about 20 books and he has another one coming out later this year

I positively drool with excitement when I see you have posted the monthly list of new books. I enjoy Joan Hess, but I am even happier to see a new maddy Hunter. I too head for my libraries’ on-line catalogs to place hold on my favorites. Luckily I have access to 3 libraries so I have a good chance of obtaining the books I want.

Because I read books by authors like Dana Stabenow I have gotten to love watching the reality TV show on Alaska on the cable channels. I love being able to see stories about Alaska. Alaskan State Troopers, Flying Wild Alaska, and Gold Rush have gotten to be some of my favorite TV shows. Except maybe to watch the sports my hubby and I seldom watch the major networks any more. Just too much blood, gore, and sex. I know, I know, I READ about these things but the TV shows just aren’t very interesting to me. Give me a good book over network TV any day. I just wish the narrator of these shows would slow down so that I could understand how some of the Alaskan towns and villages are pronounced!

My husband and I have also become fond of the reality shows set in Alaska although I find Coast Guard Alaska rather repititive. One thing I enjoy about many mystery stories is their settings. I learn a great deal about many countries climate, scenery and customs from mystery stories and not just those that are travel based. Regina

Regina, I love the books that are set in various locations, in the US and in the British Isles. I don’t really care for some of the ones set in say like the eastern countries, France, the mysterious places, just about any place in the US though. I will never see many of these places but some of these books serve me as my own travel agents. I love to read who or what kind of people settled in different areas of the country. I love geneology and I like to learn how we all got to be living in whatever area or locale we are living in. When people ask me what kind of books I like to read I will say mostly murder mysteries and I sometimes get funny looks from people when I say I can learn a lot while reading mysteries. But I can.

If anyone is looking for a great read. Deborah Coonts has 2 books out and 2 more coming out this year. You can’t put them down. Wanna Get Lucky? and Lucky Stiff great reading. Just finished Janet Evanovich Love in a Nutshell, Leslie Meier’s Chocolate covered Murder and James Patterson’s Private # 1 Suspect.

Wrote to Danna directly on this one, but thought I would reach out for help. Just spent about a 1/2 a year reading Agatha Raisin and Hamish McBeth (MC Beaton) and really enjoyed them. Anyone have a good, strong and long book series they can recommend? While I love Dana Stabenow (because her books advance the characters) and read Evanovich and Fluke es (though getting a bit bored with the characters’ stagnation) I am willing to try anything with a good number of books out there so I don’t have to wait for the next one. Many thanks!

If you enjoy reading MC Beaton you might like Martha Grimes. Her main character is Richard Jury who is a Scotland Yard detective. The characters are great. I first read one in the middle of the series and didn’t like the series until I started with the first one which is The Man with a Load of Mischief. I like the quaint English village feel which reminds me a bit of Agatha Raisin’s town.

I think there are about 22 Richard Jury mysteries. Also you may like Anne Perry who has two Victorian series. The Pitt series has about 26 and William Monk has 18 in the series.

If you’re looking for a good Christian mystery series, be sure to read Cynthia Hickey’s books – “Fudge-Laced Felonies”, “Candy Coated Secrets” and “Chocolate Covered Crime”. I laughed so hard in the second one, that I nearly cried! But they are also mysteries and a very good read!

I saw the Avery Aames, 3rd book in the Cheese Shop Mystery Series listed, so I bought all three right off the bat. It really sounds like a great series. I like the idea of being able to get into a series early on so there isn’t alot of catching up to do. I have one more Book Town Mystery and one more Domestic Diva Mystery to read then I am diving in to the Cheese Shop.
I also liked what I read about Lucy Arlington’s new series. I just ordered that as well.
I have to stop finding all these new series. I can hardly keep up with what I have. So many good books so little time!

I have all sorts of TBR mysteries, but I tend to leave them on the back burner, even though they are by my favorite authors. I go through phases where I just feel like I want to try new-to-me authors so that I can find more to add to my TBR pile of books. Good grief!

Just finished “Buried in a Book” by Lucy Arlington. While it gets a teensy bit Harlequin-ish for a moment here and there, I would still highly recommend it. I particularly liked the fact that the heroine is sensible and keeps updating people (particularly the police) on her whereabouts, her suspicions and her overall investigation – I just hate it when the sleuth runs off to confront the killer singlehandedly and then is genuinely surprised he or she is almost killed.

Can’t believe the Cat DeLuca Mystery series isn’t on your list. To me it’s the ultimate “Cozy” with lots family, laughs, a bit of romance and a good solid plot. The author is K. J. Larsen which it says inside the book jacket is actually three sisters writing together, an interesting anomaly in itself.
