If you’re looking for a short, delightful Christmas show that is perfect for the entire family, I recommend Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. This 2014 production is based on both the 2003 hit movie, Elf, starring Will Ferrell and the Broadway musical production.
My husband and I recently watched this fun, short Christmas (43 minutes long) movie, and we both enjoyed it immensely. Although both of our children are now grown, we are sure they would have loved this movie when they were little. This of course means that this movie would have been played over and over (and over again!) in our home during the Christmas holidays.
The movie is done in an amalgamation of animation styles. All through the movie I was fascinated by the different details used in its production. I especially liked the different textures used, for example, Holly’s hair, the costumes, and the quirky facial expressions.
The story is a heart-warming Christmas tale about the importance of family. The music is catchy, fun, and up-beat. The movie uses the vocal talents of The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons (who is terrific!), Star Wars‘ Mark Hamill, and Ed Asner, among others.
I’ve told both of my (now grown) children they should definitely watch this fun, cute Christmas movie. It truly is lots of fun for everyone.
P.S. In the past we have discussed favorite Christmas movies, and compiled quite a few on these lists:
Christmas : Favorite Classic Holiday Movies: Old, Black & White… and a Few In Color (not mysteries)
Christmas : Favorite Holiday Movies – More Recent, In Color (not mysteries)
What are your favorite Christmas movies that you find yourself watching every year during the holiday season. Please post a comment below and let us know! Thank you!

I’m a classic movie fan (love TCM) so I like to watch mostly classic Christmas films (although some of these titles have been remade, I’m referring to the originals): The Bishop’s Wife, White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Christmas in Connecticut, Holiday Affair, The Shop Around the Corner, It’s a Wonderful Life. And I enjoy watching the classic animated Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer with Burl Ives singing and all of that, as well as the Charlie Brown Christmas. I’m so sentimental!

Lydia, I, too, enjoy the classic Christmas movies you list. Last night my husband set up the Fire TV stick in our hotel room and we watched some very, very old Christmas cartoons on Amazon Prime stream. One of them was from 1936. Boy are they different than the Burl Ives/Rudolph and Fred Astaire/Santa Clause is Coming movies! (Which aren’t so young themselves!)

My absolute favorite Christmas movie of all time is Holiday Inn, which actually includes other holidays, but the Christmas part is wonderful. It’s the movie where Bing Crosby introduces “I’m dreaming of a White Christmas.” The next fave for me is the animated “Grinch” movie, gets me every time!

Andi, I’m so glad you mentioned the animated Grinch movie! I just added both that movie and the classic Charlie Brown Christmas movie to the classic Christmas movies list. Thanks!

Danna, thanks for the recent list of movies to be shown this Christmas season. I’m a catsitter, so what could be better, after feeding and litter chores are done, than sitting with my charges in my lap, enjoying a great holiday movie.
I’m definitely hoping to see TBS’s “Christmas Story” … even though the story’s setting precedes my generation, there are so many things that remind me of my own childhood, especially the sense of wonder … and layers of wool. “I can’t put my arms down!!” makes me laugh every time.
I can’t wait for TCM’s “Thin Man” marathon on New Year’s Eve. What a godsend!

Marja, what a nice way to enjoy pets! I’ve often thought that I’d love to dog sit a dog at our house >>> sort of like a day care for a dog, without the real responsibilities. Although I’m pretty sure I’d worry if the dog was sick, just like the owner…
