I wasn’t quite sure if I would have any Cozy Mystery news to tell you about, but it seems I do! And it involves some very big names in the Cozy Mystery genre!
First for some very sad news. Donald Bain passed away last month. He brought so many hours of reading pleasure to a lot of us – as we followed Jessica Fletcher’s crime-solving adventures in the Murder, She Wrote book series.
***** ***** ***** *****
Rhys Bowen just released On Her Majesty’s Frightfully Secret Service, the 11th book in her Royal Spyness Mystery Series – in August. (The 12th in the series will be released in August 2018.) Here’s the great news: Rhys Bowen has just signed to write books 13, 14, & 15. Georgie is in no danger of not having more mysteries to solve. Hmmm… that doesn’t mean she will definitely not be in danger! (Here’s the link to Rhys Bowen‘s page on my Cozy Mystery site.)
It appears like Mollie Cox Bryan will be (possibly) starting a new Cozy Mystery series with the release of The Jean Harlow Bombshell. A lot of us are fans of her Cora Craft Mystery Series as well as her (scrapbooking) Cumberland Creek Mystery Series, so this is really good news! (To see Mollie Cox Bryan‘s page on my site, click on her highlighted name.)
It seems like it’s been a long time since JoAnna Carl (aka Eve K. Sandstrom) released her 16th Chocoholic Mystery Series book – The Chocolate Bunny Brouhaha. (I just checked, and since it was an Easter Cozy, some of us didn’t read it until April of this year!) Anyway, getting back to the really terrific news, JoAnna Carl got the go-ahead for two more Chocoholic mysteries! (To visit JoAnna Carl‘s page on my site, click on the link.)
Diesel and Charlie will busy, busy, busy solving crimes! Miranda James (aka Honor Hartman, Jimmie Ruth Evans, & Dean James) has just been given the green light to write four more mysteries in the Cat in the Stacks Mystery Series. I know there are a lot of us who read this New York Times bestselling series. I know this is great news, and I feel a little greedy about admitting this, but I hope we get some similar news about Miranda James’s Southern Ladies Mystery Series! (Here’s the link to the Miranda James page on my site.)
And finally, only because I do these news tidbits alphabetically, Victoria Thompson will be continuing her new Counterfeit Lady Mystery Series after the November 2017 release of City of Lies. Victoria Thompson has signed on to release City of Secrets, which is terrific news for those of us who are fans of her Gaslight Mystery Series. (Click here if you would like to visit Victoria Thompson‘s page on my Cozy Mystery site.)
Was I correct in saying there were some really big names in the Cozy Mystery genre in the Cozy Mystery News for November 2017?!
Dee White says
Sad news about Donald Bain. I really enjoy the Jessica Fletcher books. He was also the ghost writer for Margaret Truman’s books. Great news about JoAnna Carl and Miranda James. Both of those series are fun, interesting reads.

Dee, yes, Donald Bain will be sadly missed. He was a talented author and an important part of the Cozy community.
Marianne says
Oh, how I miss Rhys Bowen’s “Evan” series!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marianne, so do I! Fortunately her other series are also quite good.

Thank you Danna! I really look forward to reading your blog. I have so many more reading adventures because of it. It has also helped me define what I like in a good mystery and then gives me options. I’m able to read and enjoy new mystery series that I might never have known existed. It’s all achieved in a very user-friendly blog that is, amazingly, kept up to date! You’ve made my days so much more “cozy” and I thank you for that!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Bellalainie, you’re welcome, and thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad whenever I hear from someone who is able to use the site to help connect with new authors and to hear that I’ve helped you determine what exactly you like in a Cozy is especially gratifying.
Marsha B. says
Some good news! However, darn it… I love the Bridge series written as Honor Hartman, and the ones written as Jimmie Ruth Evans… the Cat in the Stacks, not so much. I wish the publisher would let her publish more of MY favorites, especially the Bridge ones!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Marsha, well, I’m glad that I can give you good news, though like you I wish that other favorite series could continue on as well!
Cheryl M. Palmour says
Yay for Both JoAnna Carl and Miranda James! I enjoy both of these mystery series! Diesel is a hoot! The chocolate information that is included in the Carl series is both interesting and informative. Congratulations to the other authors also.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Cheryl, I’m glad to be able to pass along some good news on your favorite series.
Kathy Cornelius says
Really excited to hear Miranda James is going to be writing more Cat In the Stacks. Like you, I love the Southern Ladies!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kathy, as I say in the blog, I’m still hoping for good news on the Southern Ladies! It’s rare for me to enjoy spin-off series as much as this series.
Christi Ling says
Great news!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Christi, I’m glad to pass on good news!
Margaret StashEmpress says
So glad to hear there will be more Georgie books from Rhys Bowen (one of my MOST favorite series) and more of the Chocoholic books (another most loved series)!
Sad news about Donald Bain! Wondering if that’s the end of the line for Jessica Fletcher or is there any word on someone else (his daughter perhaps?) continuing the series?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Margaret, I’m glad that you’ll have a few more books to look forward to coming up! And regarding the Murder She Wrote series continuing… well, I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.
shan says
I’m so sad about Donald Bain.
From the NYT Oct 26 obituary:
The “Murder, She Wrote” series is expected to be continued by Mr. Bain’s most recent collaborator, Jon Land.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Shan, it really is a sad loss. Thanks for the post though – it sounds like at least the Murder, She Wrote series might be continuing, though I’m sure it will have to change a lot without him.
Barbara V says
Recently finished reading A Quiet Life in the Country, a Lady Hardcastle Mystery, by T. E. Kinsey. Really enjoyed Lady Hardcastle and her adventures with her maid. I had to look up a few of the British words, enjoyed their humor and am looking forward to reading more in the series. I guess each book reveals more about the mystery in her own life.
Amber says
I am very excited about the news of new Miranda James’ books. I just picked up her new Southern Ladies one this week.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Amber, I’m glad I could pass along good news then!
MJ says
I don’t know if this comment goes under this section or not……
But, I JUST realized I didn’t see a new Scrapbook Mystery book or a new Crackleberry Club book by Laura Childs for 2017. I wondered about it and checked her website. I saw these two entries:
GLITTER BOMB
Scrapbook Mystery #15
Coming October 2018
Mardi Gras means raucous parades, fantastical floats, and glittering galas. But when an exploding float spells murder, Carmela and Ava ditch their beads for detective hats.
——————————————
EGGS ON ICE
Cackleberry Club Mystery #8
Coming October 2018
Did Scrooge’s ghost really murder the mayor’s right hand man onstage in the middle of dress rehearsal? Suzanne and Toni don’t think so!
Guess fans of these two series will have to WAIT ANOTHER YEAR! ):
But, at least, these series haven’t ended.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
MJ, thank you so much for telling us about these two new Laura Childs books. Christmas and Mardi Gras! Thanks, again!
Tari Hann says
Awww so sad about Donald Bain’s passing! He did write an amazing amount of Jessica books but it’s always sad to think there won’t be any more unless someone takes over for him.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Tari, according to another commenter further up, a Donald Bain obituary says that another author, Jon Land, will be taking over the Murder, She Wrote series.
Tari Hann says
Oh I’m glad that Jessica Fletcher will get to live on through another author! Thanks for that info! 🙂
