Cozy Mystery News – June 2019

June 8, 2019

It’s another modest month for Cozy Mystery news, with only three announcements:

First, for those of us who are fans of  Tasha Alexander – you’ll be pleased to know she will again be using her studies of English Literature and Medieval History. That’s right! She’ll be releasing another entry in her Lady Emily Mystery Series, bringing the series to a total of 15 entries, including one more that is scheduled for release in January of 2020 (In the Shadow of Vesuvius), plus this newly announced novel. The very Victorian Lady Emily will be going to Florence this time to do her sleuthing.

Izzy, Nell, Cass, & Birdie have just gotten the green light to solve at least three more mysteries! Sally Goldenbaum will be releasing three more books in her Seaside Knitters Society Mystery Series. The Sea Harbor, Massachusetts knitting group will be kept busy not only knitting, but solving crimes. (Sally Goldenbaum also writes the Queen Bees Quilt Shop Mystery Series.)

Move over Margaret Grace, Jean Flowers, & Ada Madison! Camille Minichino will be adding a new pseudonym to that list. Enter Elizabeth Logan!  Camille Minichino (writing as Elizabeth Logan) will be starting up the Alaskan Diner Mystery Series soon. The star sleuth of this series is a woman returning to Alaska to run her retired parents’ diner. As a fan of Camille Minichino, I’m delighted to know this series will include at least three Cozies. I started reading Camille’s Cozies years ago when she released her Periodic Table Mystery Series. (I can’t believe that was over 20 years ago!) She also writes the Miniature Mystery Series (as Margaret Grace), the Postmistress Mystery Series (as Jean Flowers), and the Sophie Knowles Mystery Series (as Ada Madison).

That covers the June 2019 Cozy Mystery News. I’ll have more news next month!

I have loved all of Camille Minichino’s series. When I first discovered her (thanks to this blog) I was disappointed that she didn’t continue writing more in each specific one but I’ve now come to realize that none of her series went on long enough to become predictable….and that is a good thing. As long as she continues to create new characters (even if the series are short ones), I will remain a happy Ms. Minichino fan.

Linda, there is something to say about a series not outstaying its welcome. That said, I do wish that she wouldn’t start up new pseudonyms so frequently.

The covers of Sally Goldenbaum’s books just keep getting better. The Seaside Knitter series is excellent, and I just got the first in the quilting series which I’m sure will also be enjoyable

For readers who are new to the Sally Goldenbaum series, she changed publishers recently and the last few books are numbered as if they are the first three books (at least on Amazon) in the series. The name of the series was also changed slightly but it is still the same cast of characters. I enjoy the series, especially the relationship of the four main female characters.

Janice, thanks for letting people know this! I always have trouble keeping releases straight when series names are changed.

How does Ms. Cozy Mysteries know things about me before I do? Well, almost! The ink is barely dry on the Alaskan Diner Mysteries and here it is on The List! I’m 65% into the first one, which will be released in May 2020. Thanks for tracking me, Ms. Cozies!

Um…I may have to add The Alaskan Diner series…I spent my first six years in Alaska. If there are recipes, that will utterly cinch it…

Danna, the Tasha Alexander series sound great. I am new to this author and her series, so I decided to order the first book “And Only To Deceive.” I’m looking forward to it.

Debbie, sounds like an enjoyable set of books to read in a row! Well, the Goldenbaum books might take a while, so you’ll probably have to find something for between now and then.

I love the Jenn McKinlay books. The next one in the series will be out on September 3, so I am waiting impatiently for it to be released.

I have not read any of the Sally Goldenbaum books yet, but several folks who seem to likethe same book I do, also like hers so the odds are good that I will as well. Just what I don’t need – another author to add to my list with lots of books out there. Oh well, at least I am retired now and can read more than before.

For those pseudonyms…you can look on fantastic fiction which will give you the actual name, with all the books IN ORDER, with the names used to write them! It’s a lovely source for finding out if favorite authors have written more in a series, or more in any other series. A lot of help, since even prolific authors don’t put out books every month, as I wish they would! I need to either read slower or find more favorite authors!

Glen, that is what I usually do when I become aware of the pseudonym – it can still be annoying, though, when I’m trying to find new books by site authors on sites like Amazon! Which is one of the main ways I try to keep on top of new releases.

Glen – I agree that I wish my favorite authors could write more books, but I keep adding authors to my preferred list, so I will never run out of books to read.

Thanks for the info on fantastic fiction. I will be checking it out and making a list of my authors and their pseudonyms.
