This Cozy Mystery news letter is going to be rather short, but that’s not to say it’s not full of great Cozy Mystery news!
For those of you who are Cora Felton fans (that’s right, the Puzzle Lady!) you’ll be very pleased to know that Cora will continue to creatively solve her mystery puzzles. Parnell Hall will be bringing us another new Puzzle Lady mystery after this month’s new Puzzle Lady mystery (A Puzzle to Be Named Later).
Well, if you’re not all caught-up with Kathleen Paulson, Owen, and Hercules, you better hurry up and read your New York Time’s bestselling Magical Cats Mystery Series books! Sofie Kelly (aka Sofie Ryan & Darlene Ryan) just signed on for two more Cozies in this series. Good news for all of us! (I better start reading faster!)
This is great news for all of us who look at Sherlock Holmes as the best mystery-solver of all times! Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger will be the editors of a fourth anthology that contains stories that have the Sherlock Holmes feel to them. And, for those of you who are Rhys Bowen fans, she will be writing a story for this anthology. (Here are the three already-published anthologies King and Klinger have released: In the Company of Sherlock Holmes, Echoes of Sherlock Holmes: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon, and A Study in Sherlock: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon.)
I know a lot of you are fans of Anne Perry‘s series – even though I know they are historical mysteries, not Cozies. Here’s some great news for you! She has just been given the green light to write the 33rd Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mystery, her 24th William Monk mystery, and her 16th Christmas mystery. That’s right! And, her Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series is going to move into the early 20th century, since it will feature Daniel, their grown son. Didn’t I say it was great news for her fans?
I think I mentioned that Teresa Trent (the author of the Pecan Bayou Mystery Series) will be starting a new series called the Henry Park Mystery Series, which will feature Gabby Wolfe (who has Sixth Sense) in Henry Park, Colorado. Well, here’s some good news for those of us who read Teresa Trent’s Cozies. She has just signed on to write the Piney Woods Mystery Series – which I am guessing will take place in Texas – since we have an area called “Piney Woods”.
I’ll be back with more Cozy Mystery news when I have more to report. Until next time…

Thank you, Danna! They all sound good. I am interested in the Sherlock Holmes anthology and Anne Perry’s, especially the Christmas mystery.

Sharon, you’re welcome!
Rob says
Thanks, Danna; I always look out for the Anne Perry group! I’ll definitely order them from my library! I read the book about Christmas novella with Jemima Pitt and loved them all, so far.
Have you read A Christmas Garland? Victor Narraway is featured in that one. The most recent Christmas novella features Victor and Vespasia in Jordan and Syria. All of her books are great and I’m never disappointed. Hope you’ll like them too.

Rob, unfortunately Anne Perry is one of those authors I just haven’t read. The to be read pile is just too long sometimes.
Robin says
Don’t forget “A Study in Sherlock: Stories inspired by the Holmes Canon” from 2011. It is also edited by Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger.

Robin, thanks for pointing that one out! I’ve added it to the entry.
Barb2 says
Confused! Follow Anne Perry’s William Monk Series faithfully….and your note mentions the 24th….what happened to the 23rd? I am unable to locate it!
Thanks for all your hard work researching all this information for us!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Barb, I don’t think it’s out yet – they have enough confidence in her to order at least a couple ahead apparently!
Tom says
Suggestion: I read murder & mystery books Some of my favorites are written by Rita Mae Brown the Mrs. Murphy series. In the beginning of her book is a list of characters with a small description of the character. VERY GOOD IDEA. I wish more publishing companies would do this. The longer it takes to read a book the more important this becomes.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Tom, I certainly know what you mean and agree that it would be a good idea – it would both help refresh the memories of long time readers and help let newcomers into a series. I seem to recall a lot of earlier Cozies doing this, since they often didn’t have as many recurring characters as modern Cozy series.
Linda Cooper says
Danna, My library had a display of “cat cozies” for this month. This was kind of fun. I have already read most of the books the librarians had picked out but I pick a few that I hadn’t read.
Susy says
Sofie Ryan/Sofie Kelly is one of those authors who I rush to the book store to buy when they first come out and read them within days (just finished the latest Second Chance Cat yesterday). Because I read between 120 and 150 books per year, and I go back to reread often, I try to buy as many as I can used. Even with waiting to read piles that should embarrass me, I just can’t wait for a few authors next book.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susy, I have a large list of books that I have bought but am waiting to read too.
