It’s that time again! I have a “notepad” called “Blog Entries” that I keep a list of questions and/or comments from some of you, so that I can get input (usually help!) from you all. This latest letter is from Adele. She writes:
“… I have been perusing your web site and trying to find a book that I read a few years back. Ok…I bought it in paperback from a local book dealer (not Amazon, so no record of purchase). The book is now long gone, but I would like to read more of this author. And silly me, of course I forgot to write down the author’s name.
I think it was a cooking cozy mystery. I’m pretty sure it took place somewhere in Boston – New England in general, definitely not Georgia. There is magic involved as one of the characters kept trying to make the shop broomstick fly and eventually did and it chased the culprit down the street. The broomstick always comes back to the owner. The owner of the shop is the protagonist. I don’t remember if it was a pie shop, muffin shop or bakery shop.
… Thanks for any clue or hint you can give me.”
I wrote to Adele and told her I would ask you all for your help in identifying the author of this book. (I also told her that we have a pretty good success rate!)
Thank you for your help!

Could it have been Broomsticks and Brownies? That story takes place in Savannah but otherwise sounds like the one you’ve described.

I love these kinds of questions! I think Kalena is right. I haven’t read Broomsticks and Brownies, but it sounds cute! 🙂

Cute title

I love your website and your lists are so helpful. DO you ever mention or list series that are available in audio book format? I am a big fan of listening to a book while I knit or work or clean the dishes. Two birds, one stone….

Welcome to the Cozy Mystery site, ndrose! I love to listen to my audio books, also. When I used to drive my children to and from school, I would always have my mystery on tape, and my needlework to keep me company. I’m sorry, but I don’t have an audio book theme.

I’m not sure that it is Brownies and Broomsticks. If the book was read a few years ago, this one only came out last May. I have read it and it doesn’t have a flying broomstick in it, though it does have magic.

I know this book! I just read it recently…Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich. The main character is Lizzy, who makes amazingly good cupcakes in a small bakery in Salem, MA. Her co-worker/friend bought a spell book and did get a broom to fly. I see there is a 2nd book in this series: Wicked Business. As you probably know Janet Evanovich is better known as the author of the Stephanie Plum books. This is a new series she just started.
BTW, I love this website and blog! I discovered it when I had read all books written by my favorite authors and needed something new. I have a whole new list of favorites now.
Thanks!

Thanks, Ann G! It’s always great when someone can identify the missing author.
Adele, here’s the information on the Janet Evanovich series you are looking for:
Lizzy & Diesel Mystery Series:
Main Character: Diesel, Possesses Superhuman Powers & Lizzy Tucker, Pastry Chef, Massachusetts
1. Wicked Appetite ’10
2. Wicked Business ’12

I think this may be a stretch, but maybe it is Madelyn Alt. If not it is a similar series that may be enjoyed.

Hello!
That sounds to me like the newer Janet Evanovich series that started with Wicked Appetite and the second book is Wicked Business. the Lizzy and Diesel series. It takes place around and in the Boston area and Lizzy’s friend is the broomstick woman. Very funny and light reading.

Thanks to all of you! It looks like Adele has found her author!!!

I think Ann G is right! I read Wicked Appetite a few years ago and it definitely sounds like the first in the “Wicked” series. Big fan of Janet Evanovich and I love this series! i was just coming here to post that when I saw Ann had posted it. There are several books in the series now and easy to find. Have fun catching up!

Ceelee Sunshine, thanks for telling me about this goof of mine! (I reposted this very same question!)

Hi Danna!
You’re welcome! I love this group because we are all so willing to help out a member when the memory lapses! 🙂 I personally love a challenge so it is fun for me to try to figure out the Mystery of the Forgotten Book! This one was pretty easy since I had read it but I had to go dig up my own copy to make sure.

Ceelee Sunshine, I still cannot believe I didn’t delete that old message from my list of questions/comments. Thanks, again!
