Upcoming Mysteries on Turner Classic Movies for September 2024

August 11, 2024

Oh my! It’s not October yet, but since September 2024 will have a Friday the 13th in it, there will be several Halloween-ish movies on this particular day. Some of you have been with me for a long enough time to know that I enjoy watching the old, black and white Halloween-type movies during October every year. And I’m not talking about just what the Golden Age of Hollywood thought of as “A” movies — the closer to “B” movies, the better for me! I love the old Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, Bela Lugosi, (ETC!) movies from yester-year. If your taste is anything like mine, then make sure to take a look at what the Turner Classic Movies channel has in store for us on Friday the 13th this year.

As this is a mystery site, I have included mystery and crime movies on this September 2024 list. However, I want to bring attention to a movie I have watched a several times (and plan on watching even more times!) which is not a mystery movie. On Wednesday, September 18 the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing The Enchanted Cottage (1945). It stars Dorothy McGuire, Robert Young, and Herbert Marshall. Ok, I know it’s difficult to see Dorothy McGuire as not absolutely beautiful — even with the very dark, bushy eyebrows and dark, barretted hair. Let’s face it… she’s still a beauty! But I guess she doesn’t look like the other (very glamorous) women in 1945 movies. Either way, I love this non mystery movie – and you might, too! (Watch the movie, then you’ll see why I am talking about her looks…)

Upcoming Mysteries on Turner Classic Movies for July 2024

June 20, 2024

Yow-Zee! Summer is here and it’s hot, hot, hot in San Antonio —> Great time for reading indoors OR for watching a mystery/crime movie on the Turner Classic Movies channel!

There are a whole lot of summer movies being shown during July. If you’re interested in surfing, then this is the month for you! Also, there are quite a few war-time movies being aired this month.

I have listed a few non-mystery movies that I particularly like… Jezebel (1938), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942… a 4th of July movie with James Cagney dancing and singing, not as a gangster!), The Women (1939), and I Know Where I’m Going (1945).

(Since all of these movies are from way back when, some of them may be rather dated.)

Great weather to crank up the air conditioner, stay inside, and spend the days either reading Cozy Mysteries or watching mystery movies! So, that’s what I’ll be doing!
