A Blast from the Past: Four New Authors to the Cozy Mystery Book Site… Torrey Chanslor, Margaret Erskine, Phoebe Atwood Taylor, and Josephine Tey

July 30, 2009

Every once in a while I get recommendations (from the Cozy Mystery site readers) that really take me back! I decided to try to “save up” until I had four authors who I could post together… for those of you who remember them fondly.

Torrey Chanslor (aka Marjorie Torrey, Caldecott Winner): Beagle Sisters Mystery Series… Amanda and Lutie Beagle are spinster sisters who inherit a Manhattan detective agency.

Margaret Erskine: Septimus Finch Mystery Series… Septimus is in the Scotland Yard CID (Criminal Investigations Department) and as such, is a plain clothes police detective.

Phoebe Atwood Taylor (aka Alice Tilton & Freeman Dana): Asey Mayo Mystery Series… Asey is a Boston sleuth who relies heavily on his cousin who happens to be a big gossip AND Leonidas Witherall Mystery Series (as Alice Tilton), which is also set in Boston and features an ex-teacher sleuth.

Josephine Tey: Alan Grant Mystery Series… Alan Grant is an inspector with the Scotland Yard.

Barbara Bretton, Anne Canadeo, Elizabeth Lynn Casey & Elise Hyatt : Four New Authors to the Cozy Mystery Site…

July 24, 2009

It seems like there is a little something extra for almost everyone this time! I am adding four authors to the Cozy Mystery site, and if you’re a knitter, sewer, journalist, furniture restorer, live in Massachusetts, South Carolina, New Jersey or Vermont… or just like to read mysteries, then you just might enjoy one (or more!) of the following authors who were recommended for me to add to the site:

Barbara Bretton: Chloe Hobbs’ Paranormal Mystery Series… Chloe is the proud owner of Sticks and Strings Knitting Shop in Vermont and happens to be 1/2 human and 1/2 sorceress.

Anne Canadeo (aka Katherine Spencer): Black Sheep Knitting Mystery Series… Maggie Messina is the owner of this knitting shop and does her sleuthing in Massachusetts. As Katherine Spencer she co-authors the Cape Light Series (non-mystery) with Thomas Kinkade.

Elizabeth Lynn Casey (aka Laura Bradford): Southern Sewing Circle Mystery Series… Tori Sinclair is a sleuthing librarian who is also a member of this particular sewing circle in South Carolina.  As Bradford she writes the Jenkins & Burns Mystery Series which features a detective and a reporter based in New Jersey.

Elise Hyatt: Daring Finds Mystery Series… Dyce Dare owns a furniture refinishing business. As a bonus, furniture refinishing tips are included in the mysteries.

M. M. Gornell, Nancy Lynn Jarvis, Tracey Kiely, Thomas Perry : Four New Authors to the Cozy Mystery Site…

July 12, 2009

Here is the latest “batch” of authors who you (the Cozy Mystery Site Readers) have recommended for me to add to the site. I know I must sound like a broken record (I guess that would be a broken CD or download now!) when I tell you (again!) that I haven’t yet read any of them. But, since you all think that they belong on the site, then they are all welcome additions for us!

M. M. Gornell: Gornell has written two Stand Alone mysteries so far. She is a high-fire stoneware potter who loves to garden and write mysteries.

Nancy Lynn Jarvis: Regan McHenry Real Estate Mystery Series… Jarvis has worked as a librarian, realtor, and business manager, and also in the newspaper advertising business. She now writes a mystery series which is set in California.

Tracy Kiely: Elizabeth Parker Mystery Series… Kiely has a degree in English and sets her mystery series in Cape Cod. The series combines Kiely’s love for Jane Austen with the British Cozies.

Thomas Perry: Jane Whitefield Mystery Series… Jane Whitefield is a Seneca Wolf Clan member who hides people who need to disappear in New York.  AND Michael Schaeffer Series… Shaeffer is an international hit man. Perry’s books are not cozy.

June 30, 2009

So, it’s that time again >>> I am adding four new authors to the Cozy Mystery Site who were recommended by you, the Cozy Mystery Site Readers. I haven’t read any of these authors, but think that they look interesting. (As you will notice, not all of the new authors who I add to the site are Cozy.)

Casey Daniels: Pepper Martin Mystery Series... Daniels has her degree in English and loves cemeteries. Her main sleuth (Pepper Martin) lives in Ohio and is a cemetery tour guide. Pepper solves her mysteries with the help of a very dead mob boss.

Clare Langley-Hawthorne: Ursula Marlowe Mystery Series... Langley-Hawthorne is a commercial lawyer who also has her Master’s in international trade law and economics. Her main sleuth (Ursula Marlowe) is a suffragette who lives in London.

Gail Lukasik: Leigh Girard Mystery Series... Lukasik has taught writing and literature in Chicago (college level)… Her main character (Lee Girard) is a breast cancer survivor, as well as a journalist.

Archer Mayor: Joe Gunther Mystery Series... Mayor is a deputy for a New England county sheriff’s department and also a death investigator for the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner. He writes the very popular Joe Gunther police procedural which features a police detective in Vermont.
