Hallmark Channel & Lifetime Channel New Holiday Movies for 2013

October 30, 2013

I went over to the Hallmark channel‘s site to see if I could find a list of all of their new 2013 holiday movies. Sure enough, I did! They will be showing their original holiday movies during an allotted time they are calling their “Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas“, which will be at 7:00 (Central time zone) every Saturday and Sunday night.

I then went over to the Lifetime channel to see what they have in store for us.  Lifetime is calling their holiday schedule “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” and it airs at 7:00 PM (Central) on Saturday nights.

(Yikes! Both Hallmark and Lifetime are airing their original holiday movies at 7:00 PM Central? OK, not to worry… We’re just going to have to do some choosing and then re-arranging to find out which holiday movie will air again the quickest.)

Just to make it a little easier for all of us, I’m going to list the premier dates of  both Hallmark’s 2013 holiday movies and Lifetime’s 2013 holiday movies under the correct dates. (You’ll have to check to see when they will be re-airing the shows if you miss these showings. Or, if you’re lucky, let your DVR figure it out!)

Also, I’ll be adding my comments about some of the actors/actresses I recognize. This will definitely date me! (As Joe Friday might say: Just the dates, Ma’am.)

Upcoming Television Mystery Movies for October 2013

September 29, 2013

Here are the mystery movies I was able to glean from TCM’s Now Playing for October 2013. (TCM stands for the Turner Classic Movie channel.) I didn’t list all of the Halloween-type movies they will be airing, but if you’re interested in the likes of Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and/or Christopher Lee, make sure you check the TCM listings for October. You will be able to find a lot of their movies, some of which are campy enough to make them fun.

Recently I have noticed that TCM is including more movies that don’t come from the Golden Age of Hollywood. (I think of this era as being the 1930s and 1940s, so I guess I ought to call it My Golden Age of Hollywood.)  From this month’s mystery movies below, you will see that there are quite a few movies from the 1960s and some that are from even more recent years. [I’m not sure I like this TCM trend, so I’ll be interested in knowing if it continues. Even though the Golden Age (as I define it!) was before I was born, I still am MUCH more interested in the movies from the 1930s and 1940s. Either way, since I’m not on the TCM board of directors, it really doesn’t matter.]

I’m listing the movies in Central time zone. If you know of any other mystery movies that are going to be aired on television during October 2013, please post a comment.

How Lucky Are the Canadians? (Louise Penny’s Still Life Television Movie)

September 18, 2013

Wendy sent me a note (Thank you, Wendy!) telling me something that, well, might bring out the green-eyed monster in some of us. CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Television aired the two hour movie Still Life last Sunday night.

Most of you know that Still Life is the first of multi-award-winning Louise Penny‘s Chief Inspector Gamache (Three Pines) mysteries. And as if that isn’t enough to make those of us who didn’t have access to this movie utter “Harumph!”, it is set in a beautiful Quebec village featuring the beauty of autumn’s colors. Sorry, Cozy Mystery Readers, but it just keeps getting more Harumph-able: It stars Nathaniel Parker as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. (Most of you know Parker’s work as Inspector Lynley in that television series. And if you saw the latest BBC Bleak House, you know just how terrific an actor he is.)

So, for all of our Canadian friends up there, I hope Still Life is a terrific mystery movie and also, that you all were able to watch it. As for all of us down here, let’s hope Still Life makes it down our way soon!

(Here is the link to the CBC Media Centre’s About the Show page.) (This link is no longer available.)

(P.S. Wendy actually sent me the note telling me about Still Life BEFORE they aired the movie on television. When I was writing this entry, I thought it was going to air this Sunday night. My mistake!)
