2018 Agatha Award Winners and Nominees

June 6, 2019

I am waaaaaay late in telling you about the 2018 Agatha Award winners. The Malice Domestic convention was held in Bethesda, Maryland at the very beginning of this month (the first weekend). Lots of the nominated and winning authors are Cozy Mystery authors we’ve been talking about/reading/recommending right here on this site. Even though it is now 2019, this list of the authors and their books are from books that were published during 2018.

As I have mentioned before, the Agatha Awards are the awards that most represent the Coziest of Cozy Mysteries. 2017 Agatha Awards

May 10, 2018

Just last month, mystery book lovers found out who wrote books during 2017 that other mystery lovers thought deserved special recognition. I have just updated all of the Agatha Award pages as well as the Edgar Allan Poe Award pages on the Cozy Mystery site.

It’s such an honor for those mystery authors who were nominated by other mystery readers, and of course, a great honor for those who won in their categories. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NOMINEES AND WINNERS!

I’m going to start off by writing about the Agatha Awards, since those are specifically given for the Cozy Mystery genre. I will be posting the Edgar Awards in a later blog entry, but if you absolutely cannot wait to see them, feel free to visit my site and click on their corresponding pages! Although these Agatha Awards were given this year, they are for mystery books that were published in 2017. They were awarded on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Malice Domestic Convention, which took place in Bethesda, Maryland.

The 2018 Lefty Awards

April 12, 2018

I first want to say: Congratulations to all of the Nominees and Winners!

Some of you may be asking: “What is a Lefty Award?” Well, they are mystery book awards that are voted on at the Left Coast Crime convention every year – since 1996. The voters of these Left Coast Crime Awards have to be registered for the convention and they vote on authors who have been nominated for writing some of the best mystery novels of the year.

I am always delighted when I see the names of authors I recognize and enjoy – since a lot of the authors write Cozy Mystery series. (Neat, neat, neat!) This year the Left Coast Crime convention took place last month in Reno, Nevada (March 24, 2018). The mystery books had to have been originally published during 2017 – unless it’s a book that was previously published outside of North America, but published for the first time in North America during 2017.

2018 Lefty Award Nominees and Winners:

Lefty for Best Humorous Mystery Novel

Ellen Byron: A Cajun Christmas Killing (Winner)

Rhys Bowen: In Farleigh Field (Winner)

Lefty for Best Debut Mystery Novel:

May 20, 2017

As always, I want to congratulate ALL of the nominees and winners of the Agatha Awards and Edgar Awards!

So, CONGRATULATIONS!

Late last month, both the Malice Domestic convention and the Edgars Symposium were held, the events where the Agatha Awards and the Edgars Awards are declared. The Edgars Awards are a general mystery fiction award, while the Agatha Awards are given to “traditional mystery” works in the vein of Agatha Christie >>> little to no graphic violence, sex, or profanity… in other words, the Agatha Awards are pretty much what I would define as “Cozies”. Of course, both awards are very prestigious!
