OK! This should be my last installment of British Cozy Mysteries. I am only including the British Mysteries that are currently on the Cozy Mystery site. Again, I want to point out that not all of the authors are from Great Britain, rather the books take place there:
Alison G. Taylor: Her Welsh sleuth is a Chief Inspector.
Josephine Tey: Alan Grant Mystery Series
Graham Thomas: The series features a Scotland Yard Superintendent.
Charles Todd: A mother & son writing duo (Caroline & Charles) pen a series that is centered around a Scotland Yard detective who has survived WW I.
Rebecca Tope: The Cotswold Mystery Series features a house-sitter sleuth.
Rebecca Tope: The Lake District Myteries are set in the lake district.
Peter Tremayne: The Sister Fidelma series is set in Ireland during the seventh century.
Christine Trent: Florence Nightingale Mystery Series – Florence is a nurse in England during the 1850s.
Nicola Upson: The Josephine Tey Mystery Series is based on the “real life” author of Scotland Yard’s Alan Grant Mystery Series.
Jill Paton Walsh: Her series features a nurse in Cambridge. The estate of Dorothy L. Sayers had Walsh finish some transcripts for them.
Minette Walters: Not cozy, but very good.
Ashley Weaver: The Amory Ames Mystery Series features a wealthy, young woman in 1930s Britain.
Patricia Wentworth: The Miss Maude Silver series and many stand-alones.
Marty Wingate: The Potting Shed series and the Birds of a Feather series.
R. D. Wingfield: The wonderful Inspector Jack Frost series.
Jacqueline Winspear: Her sleuth lives in London during the early 1900s.
Sara Woods (aka Anne Burton, Mary Challis, & Margaret Leek): Antony Maitland is a British barrister.
Patricia Wynn: Set in England during the 1700s.
Other British lists:
Authors beginning with E, F, G, & H
Authors beginning with I, J, K, L, M, & N
Authors beginning with P, R, & S

You’re right, Minette Walters is NOT a cozy,
so why include her? If you put everyone who
wrote good but not a cozy, you’d fill up your
list with authors we weren’t seeking.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I’m sorry, Lana, that there are a number of non-cozy authors on the site. I happen to enjoy Minette Walters’ books, so that is why I include her on the site.
Hopefully, people who want to only read cozy mysteries will indulge me, and simply ignore my “outside of cozy” authors.

Thank you danna for your fabulous website. You’re doing a great job and a wonderful service to those of us who would need hours to find the books on your site. I’m a great fan of yours and appreciate very much that you take the time to do this. I certainly don’t mind you adding some “non-cozies” to the mix. I’ve found some really interesting reads!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Welcome to the Cozy Mystery site, Lori. And, thank you for the very kind words about it.

About 5 years ago I picked up an Agatha Christie book (it was Murder on the Links) and began to read, and I have been hooked on cozy mysteries ever since. I have read almost all the AC Poirot and Miss Marple books. I did not really like Tommy and Tuppence. A few months ago I discovered Patricia Wentworth and Miss Silver, and I think I like Miss Silver even more than AC’s characters. I am nearing the end of the 32 Miss Silver books. Do you have any suggestions for an author who writes books in a similar vein? I like reading about England from the 1930’s through the 1950’s, and I prefer that the author actually lived then also.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Lee,
Right off of the top of my head… Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh, and Dorothy L. Sayers.
Ganne says
I am reading my last Miss Silver mystery. I have collected them from Amazon, local used book stores and a British site) I have really enjoyed them. I am looking for another wholesome author. I will try your “cozy mystery” writers at the library. Thanks for any other ideas you may have. PS–not necessarily mystery or romantic, but good story that is well written.

Ganne,
If you are looking for a well written series, then I would like to suggest Alexander McCall Smith‘s Number One Ladies’ Detective series. They are the type of books where the character development is of the utmost importance. I love that series.
Loretta says
Danna,
First of all, thank you so much for compiling this list. I never knew there were so many “cozies” out there! I prefer British cozies, and my love for them began and continues with M.C. Beaton’s Hamish MacBeth series. I also like Alexander McCall Smith’s Number One Ladies’ Detective series. Thanks to your site I just discovered Patricia Wentworth’s Miss Silver series, and I think fans of Agatha Christie would like her as well.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Loretta, I have to admit a particular fondness for British Cozy Mysteries, however, I follow several “made in the USA” Cozy Mysteries, also.
Deb says
Can Elizabeth George be considered a Cozy-Mystery author?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
No, she can’t, Deb!
newreader says
Great blog, thanks so much!
However, I can’t believe Josephine Tey isn’t on this list (though I see her on the author list). Fans of Ngaio Marsh will appreciate her. Unfortunately, there are only a few books in the Inspector Grant series, but they are all great. Also, they’re free!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Newreader, I can’t believe it either! I’m so glad you pointed this out to me. (I have added Josephine Tey to the British list.)
Min says
No Edgar Wallace?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Min, sorry, not Edgar Wallace.
Andrea says
I love Lynda Wilcox’s books (Verity Long Mysteries; Gemini Detectives). They are set in England in the modern day but very cozy and swear word/gore free. Not sure if she does paperback/hardback but you can get them on kindle from amazon.
Bridget Briley says
No Nancy Warren. She writes several series. One is a straight cozy.: Toni Diamond Mysteries. The other 3 are paranormal cozy in Britain/Ireland: The Vampire Knitting Club, The Great Witches Baking Show, The Vampire Bookclub.
Liza says
Thank you very much for this list. I work at a library and am thinking of books that can be used in a cozy mystery book 📚 display. I am thinking of having it in the fall.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Liza, I hope it goes well!

You may want to add the Victorian Era Inspector Ravenscroft Mystery Series by Kerry Tombs to your list. I am halfway thru this 10 book series and thoroughly enjoying it.
Kate B says
I really enjoyed the Sr. Agatha and Fr. Selwyn Mysteries by Jane Willian. The Shadow of Death is the first book of two. The setting is a Welsh Abby. I hope she writes more.
