Kerry Greenwood’s ‘Phryne Fisher’ and to a certain extent Lou Jane Temple’s ‘Recipe Box’ books.

Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher series is set between the wars, like Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs

Here’s a theme – don’t think you’ve covered it – sleuths who are orphans, or who have a mystery or secret in their parentage….Kinsey Milhone (Sue Grafton), Lena Jones (Betty Web) are two….

Adding Kerry Greenwood to my long list of “cosy mysteries.” I am a HUGE fan of Jacqueline Windspear & have just finished the last of her last book. How shall I carry on??? 🙂 Thank you for all these names I have never heard of before. I have two wonderful libraries I can use in my area.

Could you provide a list of authors similar to louise penny and debra crombie. I enjoy the village scene however with a little more intense story than most cozy mysteries.

    thank you

I have added both Deborah Crombie and Louise Penny to my list of things to do, June. But, I am not sure when they will get done, as the list of authors to “Authors Who Are Similar to” is getting to be very long…

June, you might like Anne Purser’s ‘Lois Meade’ mysteries. Lois cleans houses in neighbouring villages and occasionally assists the local police at the same time.
They are not really violent, or profane, but are a little more modern / intense than most cozies.
    Cheers!

I want to point out a second series by Charles Todd (a mother-son writing team) with a female sleuth/protagonist called Bess Crawford. The period is the same as that of the Ian Rutledge series: WWI and just after. So far it includes three titles: 1. A Duty to the Dead, 2. An Impartial Witness and 3. A Bitter Truth.

Kathleen, I know what you mean about having a favorite author, or two. It’s especially nice if you discover them after they are established, so there are lots of books in your TBR pile.

How about Frances Brody and her Kate Shackleton series – four titles in print so far (and a fifth due out in October 2013?) Set in the 1920s, Kate Shackleton’s husband was declared missing in 1918 and her search for information about her husbands disappearance leads her into investigating for others.

Andrea, yes, there is an easy way to get the chronological order of each series. Click on the author’s name (which has a bold, blue type) and it will automatically take you to that author’s page, where all of the books are listed in order.
