I have received several letters asking me if I would do an “Authors Similar to M.C. Beaton” theme. I have tried to come up with the beginning of a list of authors who write similarly to M.C. Beaton. Here are some of the authors who I think might fit the bill. It would be great if you all would suggest some authors, whom you think other Cozy Mystery readers could read when they run out of M.C. Beaton’s mysteries.

I’d add the Constable Evans series by Rhys Bowen to that list. She has other series ongoing, but the Evans series is complete with 10 mysteries, I believe. They’re set in Wales.

Thank you, Carole, for the Rhys Bowen suggestion. I’ve added her to the list of authors who are similar to M.C. Beaton.
Gayle says
This is a non graceful segue…I was wondering if Susan Sundwall has written another book. I read her “Red Shoe-Lace Killer” and really enjoyed it. I did not see her name on the website, which is not hard for me as I am partially blind so I do not catch everything.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Gayle, I don’t think Susan Sundwall has another mystery out yet. Thanks for letting all of us know how much you enjoyed her Red Shoelace Killer.
Gayle says
Thank you

You’re welcome, Gayle.
Martine says
I love MC Beaton’s mysteries. How about adding Carola Dunn, Cleo Coyle, and Carolyn Hart?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Martine, I just added all three of them to the list. (I am guessing that you mean the Henrie O Mystery Series by Carolyn Hart.)
Ronda says
What about Hazel Holt, Jeanne M Dams, Elizabeth Spann, Betty Rowlands. I wish Hazel Holt would write more Sheila Mallory mysteries, I can’t find if she has written a new one and waiting publication. Anyhow here’s a few of my favourites.

Thank you, Ronda, for the suggestions. I’ll go add Jeanne M. Dams, Hazel Holt, Elizabeth Spann, and Betty Rowlands to the list of authors similar to M.C. Beaton.
I just went through my tentative new mystery book releases list and could not find any upcoming Hazel Holt mysteries. But on a positive note, she is one of the authors who doesn’t publish two, three, or more books each year. (And sometimes it takes her a few years to publish one book.)
Jan says
Death On Demand series by Carolyn Hart is a great cozy. Patricia Sprinkle’s Thoroughly Southern Mysteries featuring MacLaren Yarbough is another of my favorites,
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Jan, I just added them to the list.
Deanna (Dee) says
A new author I have recently read is Margery Allingham. “The Black Dudley Murder”. She should be on your Cozy Mystery List. (I think so anyway!) Thank you for your wonderful website.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Dee. Actually, Margery Allingham is already on the Cozy Mystery site.
sis says
There is a series about Bryant and May, detectives. I can’t remember who wrote them. They are charming and cozy! Do you know who the author is?
Sis
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sis, the only Bryant and May pair I can think of are in Christopher Fowler‘s Peculiar Crimes Unit Mystery Series.
tatjana says
I like Cozies with a male lead and that is the best part of Macbeth by Beaton. Which ones are similar to that series, with male leads?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Tatjana, of the authors listed here, I would say that the Evan Evans series by Rhys Bowen and the Maggody Mystery Series by Joan Hess are the most “Beatonesque” and have male leads.
Christel says
Hello! I think we should include the Miss Zukas mysteries by Jo Dereske. They are delightful, full of the moody weather or the Pacific Northwest and my only complaint is that there will be no more and I’ve read them all at least 5 times! Thanks, sparky
Pat says
Oh I loved that series too! So straightlaced and yet her risqué underwear. Just the right mix of logic and spiritual. Great reads!
Tsellll says
What about Patricia Wentworth’s Miss Silver mysteries?
Paige Myrick says
I love the Mercy Watts series by A.W. Hartoin. Great read and so funny.
