Looks like I need to call my local independent book store and put four of these on order.
Since Paige Shelton and Jenn McKinlay regularly do signings at the store, I am committed to buying all of their books there as well. Kate Carlisle also does signings there, so I will only buy her books there as well.
If it was closer, I would probably buy more there, but it is 50 to 60 miles (each way) from my home, depending on which freeways are closed or too backed up. I do try to go up at least once per quarter.
They also are a publishing house (which I didn’t realize until this week, so I will try to buy more of the books they publish.
There are four other books on the list I would like, but I can wait to bu them until I catch up a little on my reading.

Susy, it’s definitely nice that you’re able to get your books at a local bookstore – though in this case it sounds like it could stand to be a bit more “local” than that.

I’m 35 miles from the nearest brick and mortar book store, so the difference is not as big at it seems.

They just announced free shipping on orders over $25.00. I don’t know if that will continue after COVID-19 is less of a concern, but I am really happy about this.
If Amazon does not have discounted price, or if it is an author who does signings at this store, I will be ordering from them. The shipping might be a little more than my cost for gas, but it is still worth it to avoid traffic (which is still terrible here).

Well, it is a long drive, and I try not to buy much between Christmas and the big book sale.
When he asked what I wanted and I told him I wanted a gift card from there, he asked how many books I thought I would buy there (without a gift card) and I told him how many books I bought at signings. He then asked how much my hardbacks are costing, and that is how he determined how much to buy. He really does spoil me.
I do understand COMPLETELY about spending a whole gift card at one time (or even more than one card), so there is no need to explain.

He just told me, that for my birthday next month, he is buying me three new 8 foot bookcases to replace the battered 6 foot ones I have. As I say, he likes to spoil me.

Shelton is a local author, as is McKinlay. They are friends, so they often do signings together. They also have been know to show up a signings for other authors with whom they are friends (like Kate Carlisle). It makes going to the signings even more fun and they both seem to remember a lot of the regulars.
