I received an e-mail from a site reader yesterday that was an e-mail hoping for some help in locating an author. I could only come up with Kathy Lynn Emerson… but don’t think that this would be the author for whom she is looking.
“I have been looking for years for a book I once read in a hospital but never got to finish. I think the author was pretty famous and had written several mysteries, but I can’t remember her name. I think the book was called “The White Witch”, yet I’ve found nothing with that title that was the same book. It was a mystery about a woman in England who had an herb garden and people would come to her for healing herbs. The herbs had something to do with the mystery – similar to the Cadfael Chronicles. Does anyone know of this book?”
Do any of you out there have any ideas as to this author’s identity? If so, please comment on the board or send me an e-mail. Thanks!
PS>>> I just found out that this book is at least forty years old… Definitely not Kathy Lynn Emerson!!! Hopefully someone will have a clue as to who the author could be!

A site reader just sent me a letter saying that she thought that the book you are looking for might be The White Witch by Elizabeth Goudge.
I have to admit, though, that after reading the comments posted on Amazon, it doesn’t look like the book you described…
Does anybody else have any ideas?

I don’t know how long ago it was that I submitted this request but I have found the book after two days of research. It is The White Witch by Elizabeth Goudge. One reviewer mentioned the cottage and the herbs and it has to be the one. I read it probably in my late 30s, early 40s and I’m 74 now! I’ll purchase it and finally after all these years finish it. I’m close to finishing writing my own cozy mystery and it’s amazing that I ran across this site again in my research to have it confirmed that it’s the right book. Thanks.

Lenna, I’m sorry we couldn’t help you identify your author, AND how neat that you were able to finally find that it was Elizabeth Goudge.

I believe it is The Language of Spells by Sarah Painter
