Ditto what the title of this entry says, only DOUBLE YIKES!!!
First, let me say that I really am enjoying the Friday night television show Blue Bloods. I think that the producers were particularly clever in getting both Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg to star in the series… Both of them are actors who appeal to the two demographic age slots that control the television remotes. (Anyway, that’s what I am thinking… 40+year olds probably remember Selleck from all of his roles, and 40- year olds probably identify with Wahlberg. So, touché, job well done to the casting department!)
I don’t want to complain (AGAIN!!!) about this one detail in “cop shows” that really grinds at me… but…. last night’s episode of Blue Bloods showed yet another television scene of what a SWAT team and two detectives looks like. (Actually, I hope that’s not what it looks like!!!)
If any of you watched the show and were not bothered by the SWAT team scene>>> Please stop reading this entry! I don’t want to put this little kernel into your thoughts when seeing a SWAT team scene in the future!
Yes, there we have it>>>> The SWAT team with all of their protective gear on, helmets, heavy body armor, all parts of their body covered with some type of protective gear… except for their faces, so that they could actually see what they were doing. And, here come the stars of the show…with their tight-fitting, little body “bib” gear on… and of course, the female main character has her long hair flowing in the breeze… No helmets for these two detectives, as they join in the gun firing.
You may wonder about someone (me!) who is so “annoyed” by this type of UNreality on a cop show. I have to admit, I also wonder why something so small (like the two stars’ lack of helmets and protective gear) but this type of thing gets me wondering about the little “glitch”… while I should just be enjoying the show. I mean, I know it’s not a true life event, but really, can’t the producers/directors of these shows at least try to seem a little more real?
Or, is it in the “stars” contracts that at no time should their heads not be visible?
Jo R says
Danna, you have the right to be annoyed. How many folks, in real life, have ever heard tires squeal on a dirt road. That has always been a pet peeve of mine.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
OH NO, Jo R!!! Now I’ll be noticing the peeling of tires on dirt roads!!!
Good grief, I hope the SWAT teams aren’t in the middle of a cow pasture! I can only imagine how many squeals it would take the stars cars as they head back to the precinct!
Diane says
As I tell my husband when he gets upset over the inconsistencies to real life on a television program – this is tv, nothing is real.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I know, Diane… but I just can’t seem to shake this silly idea that someone on those television shows’ huge credits lists should be able to point out some more realistic ways to portray things…

danna thanks for bringing this up. i know what you mean.i noticed the same thing. i am a nurse and my biggest peeves on tv have always been the nurses wearing heels , medical personnel doing cpr on someones right side or their abdomen, and all the patients who by some miracle come back from major surgery and have no ivs, or tubes of any kind.lol.it makes you wonder who their consultants are on the show and i think it does take away from your entertainment value.
Dennis says
There are so many shows on and we have to use the dvr to watch when we can. Have not seen the show yet but … here is a thought – I guess they wanted us to know it was the actors and NOT stunt doubles in the scene.
Laura says
If you paid an actor a bazillion dollars, would you hide his/her face? By the way, if you are really bothered by inconsistencies to real life, please do NOT watch the new “Hawaii Five-O”!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Elaine, I hadn’t thought about the medical personnel out there watching these shows. Knowing about those inconsistencies would really bother me… I’ll start watching for patients coming out of major surgery with no IVs… I try not to focus on all of the women’s stilettos as they run after the “perps” in the chase scenes, but I hadn’t noticed nurses wearing them.
I could be wrong, but didn’t they used to have consultants from the different professions who would help producers and directors go for a little more “reality” based situations?
Dennis AND Laura… Good points! Since the actors do indeed make the salaries that should be going to medical researchers trying to find cures for Cancer, Diabetes, ETC… I guess they figure that at those wages, we should be sure to see their faces instead of possible stunt doubles in helmets.
