You may wonder why I have two authors listed as “What I’m Reading Now”… since I am always talking about having to keep lists of events, times, books, ETC. How in the world can someone like that be reading two books at a time?!?
I go nowhere without listening to my “book on tape” (even though it isn’t a tape.) And I mean nowhere! I listen to my book while driving and then take it in to the appointment I am driving to and use an earphone while waiting for my given appointment. I even take it into my local post office… since I can now count on waiting half an hour to get to the ONE open counter.
I started reading all of Susan Rogers Cooper‘s mystery series years ago. I just checked to see when that could have been >>> and am shocked to see that it is twenty (plus) years ago! I have watched as Milt Kovak struggled with dating, I have “been with” E. J. as her family grew, and I laughed along with Kimmey. Cooper is not a Cozy author, but I do enjoy her mysteries.
As for the “hard copy” book that I am reading… the actual paper-bound book that I am enjoying right now >>> one of Hazel Holt‘s. I cannot believe that I hadn’t tried her books years ago. Holt had been highly recommended to me by a Cozy Mystery reading friend of mine before I started this site. I don’t know why I never “got around” to reading her. I think that I felt like I had so many other authors who I enjoyed, and that there was always tomorrow.
I’m glad that I finally “found the time” to read her. I just started making my way through her very British Mrs. Mallory series, and I have to say… there is absolutely no question in my mind that Holt is a Cozy Mystery author. I am really enjoying the first book in her series, and am (almost) ready to find out the who, why, and how of the mystery!

Danna, on your Hazel Holt series I was able to get all of mine on ebay and the current ones on Amazon.com so if you have any gaps, you might try there to get the ones you’re missing ok.

I keep an audiobook in the car for the 50 mile RT commute for work and all errands when I am in the car alone. I have a purse book for waiting in line or a little sip’n’read time when I can get it. I have a bedside book for just before sleep and if I wake early. I also take that to the mancave when I ride the recumbent bike.

Love, love Susan Rogers Cooper! If she is not a Cozy writer, then in what genre would you place her? Have read all her books so am looking for more with her humor (just enough but not so over run with attempted humor that it becomes boring). Think her books are the best since I read James Herriott so many years ago.

Susie, I too enjoy Susan rogers Cooper. I used to think her books were Cozies, but then I started thinking that perhaps they were just a little too “realistic” for Cozies. I am really on the fence with this… What do you think? Would you describe her as strictly Cozy?

Hi Danna just finished reading THE DISHONEST MURDERER by Frances & Richard Lockridge…..a very good, clean and suspense full mystery and written in 1949. They wrote two series; one was Mr.& Mrs. North who always get involved in a mystery and a body….I love them when I can find them. smile. The other series has to do with Captain Heimbach.
I got it through Alibri Used Books.
I found another good mystery written in 1988 by Patricia Wentworth called THE FINGERPRINT.
Catherine Aird is an English writer and I came across it at a used book store also. Title Past Tense and its on the best sellers list at the library and Amazon.
Thank you so much for letting me chat about the oldies (books ) that is. Grin. Oh yes, I found another oldie I haven’t seen for years………..called FACE TO FACE with Ellery Queen, most that I do read…..usually in 30’s or 40’s as they have a good maze and he has you guessing and guessing while he has you trying to figure out the answers.
Have a nice Easter everyone…………God Bless you all.

Shirley, a lot of my authors are from way back then, also!

Hi Danna; Just finished a cozy mystery and haven’t seen it on your list of cozy mysteries.
The book’s title is DESOLATE ANGEL……by Chaz McGee
(First in the Dead Detective series).
Bought it last fall and just got around to reading it….I found the book interesting in the beginning, but as I read “I really enjoyed it”.
The story starts with the police detective when he wakes up, he finds himself dead, & now a ghost that no one can see or hear. In his words, the detective ghost narrates the case.
Through out the whole book he helps a woman detective solve the case; but she doesn’t know he’s around, also a mystery, he doesn’t remember how he got dead.
Its different but I rather liked it; Miss McGee already has a second book out I hope to buy and enjoy.
jelly bean hugs smile.
