Can you believe that autumn is officially here?!? I’m really ready for it AND for the cooler weather! (Although children in San Antonio have been known to Trick or Treat in shorts… on more than just sporadic years.)
With autumn (finally) here, I know a lot of us are planning on spending lazy weekends reading a good Cozy Mystery. Anyway, I am.. So, I thought I would again ask you all if you wouldn’t mind telling us what mysteries you are currently reading.
I’m going to start by saying that while in the car and doing housework, I am listening to the first Fethering mystery by Simon Brett. I am really enjoying this mystery book, and am wondering why in the world it took me so long to discover this series. (I think that I asked the same question when I read the first of Simon Brett’s Melita Pargeter mysteries and enjoyed it so much that I added him to my list of favorite authors.)
As for my “real book” (my hard copy book), I mentioned before that I am going through one of my “trying new authors” (to me!) phases. I am just now starting to read the first in Ann Cleeve‘s George and Molly Palmer-Jones Birdwatching Mystery Series, and am enjoying it so far.
Anyway… If you wouldn’t mind telling us what mystery you’re reading, we would love to hear from you… a great way for the rest of us to take a look at authors who we might have not “noticed” before!

I am reading Set sail for Murder by R T Jordan, its the fourth in the “Polly Pepper Mysteries” I really enjoy his writing.
Dru says
I’m reading a romantic suspense book by Beverly Barton, “Don’t Cry.”
Karen Russell says
I’m reading Kenneth Cameron’s “Bohemian Girl,” his second Denton mystery, and listening to the 4th Mma Ramotswe book in Alexander McCall Smith’s “No. 1 Ladies Detective” series. They are very different, but both good!
Laura says
Danna: For my continuing author, I am reading “Latte Trouble” by Cleo Coyle (#3 in the coffeehouse mystery series). For my new author, I am reading “Murder Past Due” by Miranda James (#1 in the cat in the stacks mystery series). Next up will be “Ringing in Murder” by Kate Kingsbury (#4 in the holiday Pennyfoot Hotel mystery series).

I am so excited to find this website! Thank you for doing this….I can hardly wait to sit down and read some of the suggested books.
Maria (BearMountainBooks) says
Just finished John Pearson’s “Learn Me Good” –not exactly a mystery, but pretty cozy, funny reading.
Next up is Nunzilla by Jerry Gelormino. No idea if it will be cozy or what. It was recommended by a friend of mine. Both of my last reads were Kindle reads, which I find is becoming the norm around my reading habits!
Sandy says
I just finished a classic English country-house cozy mystery by Georgette Heyer called “Detection Unlimited”. If you haven’t read any of her mysteries I highly recommend them. We don’t have the changing seasons where I live so to celebrate autumn my next read will have to be “Still Life” by Louise Penny.
Sandra says
I am now catching up with an Ellen Hart book, Robber’s Wine, in the Jane Lawless series, that I think I missed before. Enjoying it. I just got done with Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich. And before that was a new series for me, I just read the entire series by the way in a couple days, by Sister Carol Anne O’Marie which was the books about Sister Mary Helen and her sidekick Sister Eileen!! What great books they were. Too bad she passed away last year but what a writer that woman was!!!
Keri says
I’m reading “The dead of Jericho” by Colin Dexter. It’s fifth in the Inspector Morse series. Happy reading to everyone.
Kari says
I am reading Fleece Navidad by Maggie Sefton. I am enjoying this series about knitting and Colorado!
Patti says
I am currently reading 5 books. I am reading “Royal Blood” by Rhys Bowen, “An Impartial Witness” by Charles Todd, “Chapter & Hearse” by Lorna Barrett and “Patterns in the Sand” by Sally Goldenbaum. Also, I am reading a very good book, not a mystery but about a favorite sleuth, Charlie Chan. It is called “Charlie Chan:The untold story of the honourable detective and his rendezvous with American history” by Yunte Huang. This is such a well written and well researched book. If you are a fan of Charlie Chan or just of mysteries, I think you will enjoy this.
Larraine says
Royal Blood by Rhys Bowen. It’s really a fun book. Just finished Bad Boy by Peter Robinson. Not a cozy, but really really good!
Miki says
I just finished an oldie by Margaret Scherf, “Never Turn Your Back.” It was quite a good story, even though the writing was pretty dated.
Deborah says
The last four books I have read are “Plum Pudding Murder” by Joanne Fluke, “Dead Man’s Puzzle” by Parnell Hall,”Death and the Family Tree” by Linda Berry, and “Play It Again, Spam” by Tamar Myers. I enjoyed the first three (especially the Linda Berry one) but really didn’t care for the Tamar Myers one.
P.S. I enjoy the information available here! Thanks so much!
Viki says
I am reading a romantic suspense book called ” Rescue Me” by Christy Reece.
I just want to say that you have done a wonderful job with this site. Let’s just say that I have found many new authors because of this site. So thanks.

Just finished “Murder Past Due” by Miranda James (cat in the stacks series). It wasn’t a bad read, but I kept expecting ‘Cat Who…’.
Also recently read the 1st/3rd/5th books in the Haunted Bookshop series/Alice Kimberly. I liked those. Need to get 2 and 4.
Need to get back into Diana Mott Davidson/Goldy (Bear) Schulz and Joanne Fluke/Hannah Swensen. Haven’t read Sue Grafton/Kinsey Milhone since Q is for Quarry, so I guess I better get caught up on those. My bookshelf is current on all three, however.
When I was (much) younger I had Happy Hollister and Tom Swift books. I now have all Happy Hollister and all but the last Tom Swift and have been re-reading them.

Rebecca, thanks for telling us about R. T. Jordan…
Dru, Beverly Barton is good to hear about, also.
Karen, I am so hooked on the Smith’s Mma Ramotswe books… I absolutely love listening to Lisette Lecat.
Laura, looks like you’re getting ready for some holiday reading.
Lynn, welcome to the site. I (too) enjoy seeing what other mystery lovers are reading and am always hopeful of finding yet another author to follow.
Maria, my husband broke down and bought a Kindle… I’m still holding off on it… I have too many “real books” in my bookshelf!
Sandy, I have been toying with Georgette Heyer for a while now. I am finding that I enjoy the “classic English country-house cozy mystery” books more and more these days. (I know what they say about throwing out the old and bringing in the new, but that just isn’t always the best alternative!)
Sandra, I have Sister Carol Anne O’Marie in my bookshelf. I have been meaning to try her for a while. Her mysteries look interesting to me.
Keri, I love Colin Dexter’s Inspector Morse mysteries. They may not be Cozy, but they sure are good!
Kari, I love theme Cozies, but because we don’t have real seasons here, I “make” myself save Christmas mysteries for December. I especially like it when they include a lot of snow and crisp, cold days. A setting of Christmas in Colorado would do the job for me!
Patti, I know I’ve said this before, but I can barely handle reading my “real book” and my audio book. I am sure if I tried five books, I’d get them all mixed up… (Also, thanks for the Charlie Chan heads-up!)
Larraine, looks like you enjoy a good mystery (like me) whether it’s Cozy OR not!
Miki, thanks for letting us know about Margaret Scherf.
Deborah, three out of four is a good streak. I recently tried three authors (in a row!) who I decided not to continue reading. I hate it when that happens but >>> too little time to mess with non-enjoyable reading.
Viki, welcome to the site AND thank you for telling us about Christy Reece.
gad1n10, it looks like you are like me and have a whole lot of catching up to do – with your favorite authors. Good luck on completing up your Tom Swift collection.
Maria says
WOOHOO! Do tell! Is he happy with the kindle??? Still playing with it and getting used to it?
Tell him to check out a site called Books on the Knob and Daily Cheap Reads. Both post all kinds of bargain Kindle books each day.
Oh wait…you said you had plenty to read…maybe you don’t need those sites!

I just started reading cozy mysteries so what is new to me is probably good old reading for the rest of the mystery fans. I absolutely love the Wine Country Mysteries by Michele Scott. I currently am still reading those and I just discovered the Coffee House Mysteries by Cleo Coyle. If any of you have any rec’s I would love to hear them and I LOVE this site. I will definitely post a link on my blog!

Hi
I am currently reading Joanne Fluke’s Apple Turnover Murder (re-reading it to get my gear up for her next Christmas themed murder book)
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Maria, thanks for the information about e-books!
Michelle, thanks for the link. I am currently writing an entry about your request, and hope to get some good suggestions from site readers.
Anita, I am doing exactly what you are doing… only with two different authors. I’m trying to prepare for my seasonal reading, also. (In fact, I am going to write an entry about this, also!)

Well, *personally* I love my new Nook. (Hint: research epub file formats, and why you might want an eReader that can access them. Also, research why you don’t want a touch screen a la Sony if you want to read crisp eInk type. No, I’m not a paid shill for B&N, but I could be…) Now Playing: A Catered Halloween by Isis Crawford. My first read in this series. Good stuff!
Leah says
Right now I am reading Shoofly Pie to Die: A Granny Hanny Amish County Mystery by Barbara Workinger. This is the second in the series. I am really enjoying it. Lots of tidbits about the Amish. I am a Pennsylvania girl (now living in Maryland) so any mystery set in my home state sparks my interest. Plus, I have always had an interest in the Amish ever since my family went to Lancaster, PA when I was a chld.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Thanks, Leah, for telling us about Barbara Workinger!

My parents gave me an e-reader last Christmas because we were going on a 2 1/2 week family trip and they did not want to deal with the number of books that I would have brought. I discovered that not only was it great for reducing the weight of my luggage – but I was able to add some kids books to read with my niece and nephews in the car which I had not thought to bring. I’m not quite ready to go completely with ebooks, but they are great for travel.
Ellen says
I’m listening to “From Doon with Death” by Ruth Rendell read by Terrence Hardiman. It’s the first Inspector Wexford mystery. I’m hoping there are more Wexford mysteries read by Hardiman. His voice holds my attention.
Donna says
I am currently reading Carbs and Cadavers by J.B. Stanley. I have a Kindle and love it and seem to read books more quickly since I can take it with me everywhere. I will be reading Murder Past Due by Miranda James.

Agatha Christie- Hallowe’en Party and Elephants Never Forget

I’m currently reading the second book in the Inspector Appleby series by Michael Innes. They are totally brilliant “old style” cozy detective books and I thoroughly recommend them.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mrs. Mike, I’m currently listening to Agatha Christie’s Hallowe’en Party. I read it a few years ago but only just found it in audio form… Absolutely could not pass it up!
Carrie, thanks for recommending Michael Innes to the rest of us.
