As some of you know, I am a fan of old movies. Most of them are in black and white, although some of them are in color – depending on the year the movie was made. Several people have asked me to continue posting the upcoming mystery movies that will be appearing on television each month. That said, here is the list of the upcoming television mystery movies that I have been able to find which will air on the Turner Classic Movie channel (TCM). (I go through my TCM Now Playing guide to find them.)
I have actually seen some of the movies on this list, but not all. I’m going to be listing these movies in Central time zone. If you know of any other mystery movies that are going to be aired on television during June 2013, please post a comment.

If you know of any other mystery movies that are going to be airing this month, feel free to post a comment.
(All of the above descriptions were copied from the TCM site. I hope they don’t change their line-up!)
Beth says
OOoooo! Some of my favorites! I am so glad to discover this site and this list. Thanks for the heads up. By the way, I love that you’ve included Auntie Mame as a must-see, even though it is not a mystery. However, it is *not* a musical either. 🙂
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Beth, you are so right. It’s been a while since I saw Auntie Mame, and was getting it confused with Rosalind Russell singing “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” in Gypsy.
Julia says
I love both Auntie Mame and Mame. While Rosalind Russell does a fantastic job as Auntie Mame, and I think that version is closer to the book (as I remember it), I will always love the Lucille Ball version simply for the song “Bosom Buddies” she and Bea Arthur sing – it is just too funny for words. Oh, and Robert Preston, as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside – honestly, what woman wouldn’t have risked riding a psychotic horse for a chance to win him, even if he wasn’t filthy rich?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, I’ll have to be on the watch for Mame. It’s been years since I saw it. (Every time I think of Robert Preston, I think of him in Victor/Victoria.)
Nikki says
Some of my all time favorites – Gaslight, The big Sleep, Maltese Falcon and the Woman in white. Thanks so much for the listing.Nikki
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Nikki, there are quite a few Maltese Falcon movies on this month. I wonder if TCM isn’t doing some type of Dashiell Hammett monthly special in June.
Donna says
I subscribe to the TCM newsletter (email) and it says they are featuring Noir Writers every Friday in June. I’m really excited about the Raymond Chandler films, my favorite non-cozy writer, although I’ve seen them over and over again. Never get tired of watching Double Indemnity!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Donna, I love my TCM newsletter. When the first one came, I was sort of surprised at how small it is, but they manage to pack a lot of information into it.
"Auntie" says
Thank you for posting lists like this!
“Auntie”
Danna - cozy mystery list says
You’re welcome, Auntie.
Carol W says
I love old movies and mysteries. Thank you so much. Now I am set for the month!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Carol W, my husband and I watch a lot of old movies >>> mostly from the 1930s and 1940s.
Linda T says
Thank you for this posting, some of my favorites are on this month. Especially Gaslight, Lady in the Lake, The Big Sleep…
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda T, oh, man, Ingrid Bergman in Gaslight!
Ann says
Lots of old favorites – Gas Light was an amazing story and is used as an example a lot when teaching the art of writing mysteries.
Ann
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ann, that’s an interesting tidbit about Gaslight!
Vickie B says
Oh boy! Thank you for the list of movies to look for. Now to see if we get TCM….
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Vickie B, I sure hope you get TCM.
Julia says
Strangers on a Train is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies – the scene at the end with the carousel perfectly illustrates his ability to turn the familiar and mundane into something terrifying. Years ago I read the Patricia Highsmith book it was based on after seeing the film, but frankly I found the movie ending more satisfying.
I also love Dark Passage; it is a wonderful Bogie and Bacall movie, although my absolute favorite Bogie movie is The Two Mrs. Carrolls, with Barbara Stanwyck (he’s really dark and disturbed in that one).
Donna says
I LOVE The Two Mrs. Carrolls! You’re the first person I’ve heard mention it. Most people, even Bogart fans and Stanwyck fans, have never even heard of it, but I think it’s one of his best films ever. It should be shown more often.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia and Donna, I also enjoyed The Two Mrs. Carrolls >>> more for Stanwyck than Bogart, although he is deliciously evil in it.
Julia says
I orginally watched it for Barbara Stanwyck as well (I’m a big fan of her movies and I respect how professionally she approached her craft). At that point I’d only seen Bogart in The African Queen and The Maltese Falcon (neither really impressed me much), so seeing him in The Two Mrs. Carrolls was a revelation – he was wonderfully creepy and so different from the tough guy Sam Spade persona.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Julia, I’ve never cared that much for Bogart, either. Maybe you just had to “be there” when the movies originally came out. I just have never seen his supposed animal magnetism. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike him… But he just never “really impresse me much” either. (However, he’s delightfully evil in The Two Mrs. Carrolls.)
linda c says
Danna, One of Craig Johnson’s Walt Longmire books was made into a TV movie and is supposed to be shown on Monday, June 10th. This is one of the series that I thought my DH would like to read and I was right. He says he will watch this movie but sometimes the movies don’t always hold true to the books and then the movies sort of kills the interest in the books for him. We’ll see about this series.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, Longmire is a television series on the A & E channel which started last year (2012). The good news for your husband is that he has plenty of re-runs to enjoy, since he missed the whole first season, and a few from this season.
linda c says
Danna, I didn’t get to see this “Longmire” last night. The BB game between the Reds and the Cubs ran over too late. Hopefully this series will be on some other time. What I like about the mystery series type tv shows is that I can put a face to the characters in the books I read. Sometimes that is a good thing; sometimes it isn’t.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda C, I just took a look at A&E’s schedule for this week and it looks like they will be showing three Longmire episodes this Saturday night, back to back.
