You know how you immediately associate a particular actor/actress with a fiction character you’re very familiar with? Well, that is how I feel about Edna May Oliver in Stuart Palmer’s Hildegarde Withers (Cozy) mystery series! As far as I’m concerned, Edna May Oliver IS Miss Withers! (The same thing goes for Joan Hickson in Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple (Cozy) mystery series movies.)
Well, here’s some very good news for all of you Cozy Mystery television-watchers! On Monday, August 18 the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing 3 Hildegarde Withers movies: Penguin Pool Murder (1932), Murder on the Blackboard (1934), and The Plot Thickens (1936). The first two movies star Edna May Oliver and the 3rd one stars ZaSu Pitts. (As much as I enjoy movies with ZaSu Pitts, I just don’t associate her with Miss Withers.) And, on Tuesday, August 19, the Turner Classic Movies channel will continue our viewing enjoyment with Murder on a Honeymoon (1935) starring Edna May Oliver, and Forty Naughty Girls (1938) with ZaSu Pitts.
Be sure to set your recording machines to these fun Cozy Mystery movies!
