(I was going to post another entry today, but Jerry posted a comment about The Bonnie Hunt Show, and I want to respond…) Also, please read the last paragraph…
I am still in disbelief that they are going to cancel this show… I truly thought that some big-wig at one of the networks would see The Bonnie Hunt Show and get the rights to produce it. It is a uniquely different show, one that embraces the good in life and people, one that doesn’t go out of its way to sensationalize or dictate what the audience should feel, one that fills the television void for so many people.
I think that it is simply a question of demographics… The show doesn’t appeal to the majority of the viewing audience which apparently wants to see “cat fights” amongst the guests, private paternity cases being solved in front of a hissing and booing audience, marital cheating being revealed while all of the guilty are on stage fighting and laughing about being caught, ETC. (I don’t actually watch ANY of these types of shows, but I have seen enough of the promotions to get the gist. And, those types of shows are still going strong!)
She isn’t a sensational “gotcha” kind of host. She is truly kind to the people she is interviewing and doesn’t invite them on just to embarrass them. Her guests are people (and don’t forget how many times some of the Sesame Street Muppets have been on!) from today’s movies and television shows, as well as some of the true icons of television/movies: Dick Van Dyke, Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, Carl Reiner… That’s very impressive!
To quote my twenty four year old daughter: Bonnie Hunt is a “very refreshing TV personality. She’s genuinely funny without being crude, and she isn’t sickeningly saccharin…”
I don’t think that it is a matter of the age of her audience. I really do think that she has a following of young people, but they aren’t the young people who apparently make a difference in the ratings… And, even if it is a matter of age and her audience is old enough to appreciate the guests I mentioned above>>> What’s wrong with that?!? I bet that I spend a lot more money at the grocery/department store than someone younger who “hoots it up” while watching a wife beat up a mistress (or two, or three!!!) on a surviving talk show! Good grief!
The Bonnie Hunt Show is the only daytime show that I watch, and I will TRULY MISS IT!
Petie says
My twin sister got me hooked on Bonnie years ago and I love to watch her daily when I get home. Her crew/staff are priceless and her mom is a hoot! She’s so genuine; like you I’m very disappointed a network didn’t pick her up for their line-up. She’s so talented; it’s their loss without a doubt.
De says
I just found out today that the show is cancelled. I have Tuesday and Friday off each week and would not think of missing the show. It is so relaxing to have someone on the air that is so kind and fun to watch. She is everybody’s neighbor that you would love to have coffee or lunch with. No sensationalism, no opinions, no arguing. I don’t understand how NBC can’t see that this show filled a void for those who do not enjoy The View “B…” ladies or the drama of Oprah, or Dr Phil. I will sincerely miss the show, maybe someone else will pick up Bonnie and Don. I can hope.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Well, at least it will give us all an extra hour each week day to read…
KC says
The cancellation is another example, as if we needed more, of the idiocy rampant in those controlling what we are offered on TV. The show might be a bit top heavy on air staff what with the band and all, but what they provided is far better and enriching than the crap we are fed every day.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
KC,
I still can’t believe that they cancelled this show in lieu of cancelling some of the trashy shows that are available on every channel at every time of the day or night…
Cathy says
Bonnie’s show was the best daytime talk fest since Merv and Mike Douglas. She has a gift that so many enjoyed!! The crew were like a family and it showed. What a shame to take the show that everyone talked about and taped to watch when they got home from work and cancel it. I personally do not believe the show had low ratings because everyone I know taped it…. so maybe when you tape a show it does not count in the Neilson ratings.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Cathy,
I agree with you! I am still NOT believing that the networks decided there simply wasn’t an audience for her show…
Carol says
This is the only daytime tv I watch! I am so sick of sensationalism and trash. Don’t get me started on reality shows. This was a wonderful feel good show. I will miss it. I guess Hollywood just wants us all to see the bad in the world.
Maria says
I am so disappointed to learn that the Bonnie Hunt show was cancelled also. I work, tape it and look forward to seeing the show when I get home at night. I used to listen to Joey Reynolds on the radio and his show was cancelled a few months and replaced by something I really do not listen to. I guess I have only news to watch on TV.
Deb says
Genuine and real. I love her interviewing kids. She seems to have that youthful spirit we all should have. You can tell she follows her guests and makes things lighthearted. We need that these days with some much negativity. Ratings don’t show how much heart is put into production with shows like Bonnie Hunt’s. Good luck on where you share the next laugh!
Caroline says
The Bonnie Hunt Show is such a refreshing change from what is offered on TV now, in the 2010’s. Bonnie herself possesses such integrity, and her guests are treated with such respect. I do hope that the network will reconsider, or another network pick her show up. It would be sad to see this show of such high calibre disappear.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I still can’t get over some of the other talk shows that remain on the air, while at the same time this show was cancelled!
Sally says
Will miss this show.
Marian says
I keep hoping that the cancellation will not go thru. I will truly miss this show and all the people on it. Shame on the networks that keep all these “reality shows” on. The Bonnie Hunt show is true reality.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I agree, Marian. The bad news is that they have been cancelled. All of the shows they are airing now are re-runs.
Karen says
While watching the Bonnie Hunt Show today, August 27,2010, I learned that her show would be ending. I did not realize that it was CANCELLED. I am 62 years old, married 42 years, and cannot find much on television to watch that is funny and uplifting. Bonnie Hunt lifted my spirits each day. I live in Mexico much of the time; and whenever we are in the States (Mesa,AZ), my 11:00 a.m. time slot is booked for Bonnie Hunt. I hope the network reconsiders OR THAT SHE IS STOLEN TO ANOTHER NETWORK, where she is truly appreciated.
Betty says
I cannot believe her show is being cancelled. WHY? I am 80 years young and enjoy the show so much. I even gave up another well known talk show for her. There are so many shows that are not fit to watch. I hope another network picks up her show.
Marianne says
Would some other INTELLIGENT AND DECENT NETWORK PLEASE pick up the Bonnie Hunt Show!!!!! It deserves to be on the air for a long, long time – it is funny, refreshing, completely interesting for all ages, and Bonnie has a way of interviewing the guests that keeps the viewer wanting to watch each day. Her segment with her Mom Alice is great! You just look forward to watching the Bonnie Hunt Show as often as you can and look forward to each new show. Please keep it on the air somewhere!
Sharon says
Being a big Bonnie Hunt Fan, I’m disappointed to learn that from everything I see & read her show has in fact been cancelled I guess. Is there any possibility of revamping it in some form or another (not that it needs it) another network picking it up, or having her in some other format like late night, etc. Her show was such a breath of fresh air and it will truly be missed. :-(. Her fans will be anxiously waiting to see what next for her!!!!
Lori says
This is a complete shock! For once, you had a truly genuine plus unbelievably comedic timing individual that TRULY knew how to treat and interview all her guests, both young and old. If another network/cable doesn’t pick her show up and give her a decent time slot, like she deserves, they need their heads examined. Get it together Hollywood, WE need a feel good show with all the bad going on in the world. She is truly a breath of fresh air and always will be. She’s real, a concept Hollywood seems foreign to! They seem to forget about the rest of the country. GO BONNIE GO! WE ARE BEHIND YOU!
Mapuana says
I am very distressed that Bonnie Hunt is canceled. Hers is the only daytime show that I watch. She is truly genuine.
John says
I was truly shocked to learn Bonnie was Cancelled. It is the best thing on morning TV. My wife and I will miss her greatly. All my favorite shows get cancelled.
Lorraine says
I just started watching the show and found out that I am watching reruns and that the show has been cancelled. I’m so disappointed, but it seems that whenever there is a show smart, funny and refreshing it gets cancelled.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
I haven’t watched the reruns of the Bonnie Hunt Show, but I am assuming (from all of the recent posted comments) that they just announced the show’s cancellation on the reruns.
I enjoyed the show a lot… I taped it every morning and really looked forward to seeing it. But, it seems that it is true about all good things coming to an end.
The good news is (for some!) that the networks have been able to continue showing lying, cheating, conniving spouses, with all of their children, cousins, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers – as they beat each other up on national TV! … Always with a host who feigns surprise and disappointment as the brawls take over the show… and the audience cheers on the fighters.
Robbie says
Living in a small Texas town where we still know most of the folks we run into at the local grocery store, I am absolutely dismayed that Bonnie’s show has been cancelled. Tuning in to her show daily was like sitting down with an old friend. If anyone learns of a way we can support her and possibly any new endeavors in the “talk show” circuit, please post so we can all get behind her in word and possibly deed. I hope she truly realizes how loved she is …and how very much she will be missed.
Jo says
It’s a sad day in TV land, so we can put some reality trash on. Bonnie and crew, for what it’s worth, I will miss you. Your show was a bright spot in my day!!
Nicolaas says
I am not surprised that the BHS was cancelled.
The BHS was positive, funny, the entire family could sit together and enjoy, motivating.
You can see that there is no room for such a positive mood in this paranoid, self-destructing society.
Bonnie will be missed!

I took a vacation day and set the tv alarm to turn to Bonnie at 11am and I didn’t understand why they were giving a standing ovation, and such heartfelt things being said about the crew and come to find out the show is cancelled. Who’s ever idea that was – should be fired.
Dell says
I was very mad and upset when I realized her show that aired this afternoon is canceled. This is outrageous. She had a nice clean and informative show. Some other network needs to pick her up and put her back on. Her show slot time is being replaced with Martha Stewart who is not better than Bonnie by any stretch of the imagination. PLEASE PUT BONNIE HUNT BACK ON TV!!!!
Nattie says
I couldn’t agree more on “Saving Bonnie Hunt!” I enjoy it SO MUCH and laugh, love through the whole program. True that it’s one show you can all watch together. Miss those… Life has become so strange. Keep the show on air so I can finally feel comfortable again with my kids watching TV.
Thank you!
Sandy says
I cannot believe the ” Bonnie Hunt Show ” is canceled.
One of the few DECENT shows on the TV today !!!!!!
Father Al says
I am still in a state of disbelief! I patiently waited for Ellen’s show to end (I do like Ellen) to watch Bonnie which airs at 10:00 a.m. here (Boston) immediately after Ellen. I see Ellen again and a few seconds later an announcement across the bottom of the screen that the “Nate Berkus Show” will premiere at 10:00 a.m. on September 13. What is going on with television these days? Bonnie Hunt is a breath of fresh air, an authentic person with authentic views, feelings, and opinions. There is nothing phony about the lady. She is so genuine and her program is absolutely delightful, informative, uplifting, and more.
Let’s let everyone know that a serious error in judgement has been made in canceling this show. I am certain that there are millions of viewers who looked forward to her beautiful smile every morning from Monday through Friday.
There must be something we can do to make our voices heard. After all, if Glen Beck and his ilk can influence the naïve public so easily, we should be able to have an impact on the goodness that exists in this decaying nation of ours.
We love you, Bonnie! My heart aches for you at this time and my prayers are with you to support you and to help to bring you back into our lives soon!
God’s Blessings,
Father Al

I was so sorry to hear that The Bonnie Hunt Show was canceled. I thoroughly enjoyed her. The show always reminded me of the Mike Douglas Show that I watched when I was younger. She had great guests and made them feel at home. It was so much fun to see the stars of years past on her show, and I enjoyed seeing all the pictures on the set of Dean Martin, and stars of the 60’s. There are other talk shows on TV, but The Bonnie Hunt Show really had a heart. I’ll miss seeing her each day.
Rob says
Too bad that Bonnie Hunt’s daytime show was cancelled. It was an enjoyable, fresh, feel good about people show. ALL the other daytime shows are too blah, crass and empty. She can actually relate to people and “real” people that aren’t always on the talk-show circuit, interesting people and not all the other jerks from TV-land. The TV big-wigs made just another blunder, as well as keeping on all the cheap, stupid reality type shows that I could care less about. I love her humor.
Anne says
I was looking for the Bonnie Hunt Show today, the beginning of the new season, and she was no where to be found. I am going to miss her show. I went to Google and found out her show was cancelled. Hope she will be able to come back! MISS YOU BONNIE. Ellen is good but she is no Bonnie Hunt.
Mary says
I was truly shocked to learn that The Bonnie Hunt Show was cancelled. I enjoyed her show every day. What in the world do the networks expect except SHOCK AND FILTH.
Have Faith Bonnie, You will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anne says
How to put a smile on in the a.m…..very disappointed to lose it………..am still confused by mixed info regarding a new show. Will there be a new show? Where and When? I’m hoping for that smile spot to my day!!!!
jerry says
Bonnie was a class act who will be missed.
Madeline says
I am just back from a week away, and the Bonnie Hunt Show is gone! It was the best talk show; I hope we’ll see her somewhere else really soon. I will miss her kindness and genuine concern for others. Most of all, I will miss her “feel good moments.”
patricia says
I am very sad to see the Bonnie Hunt Show go. I loved her show. It was a perfect break in the day. I so enjoyed watching the relationship between her and her Mother, as mine has passed. Bonnie felt like one of the family. The whole show was great. Bonnie you will be missed!
Amy says
I have loved every show that Bonnie Hunt has been in through the years, and have watched in disbelief as each was canceled. Here we go again. I think Bonnie is too intelligent for the standard TV exec, they don’t “get” her.
Terri says
They cancel Bonnie Hunt so I can watch infomercials. Are you kidding me?
Ann says
I truly miss The Bonnie Hunt Show to this day. It was so refreshing and uplifting that it would brighten anybody’s day. I made it a point to watch every day and enjoyed Bonnie, her MOM and all the guests she ever had on. I couldn’t believe they cancelled it, and not some of the foolish reality and trashy shows. I think they could do without some of the cooking shows and decorating shows..they’re taking over! There comes a time when we’re done with recipes and decorating!!!!
I’m new to the computer but I am so happy to have a chance to express my views, for what they’re worth! Thanks very much. 🙁
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mary B, I have no idea if they are re-airing any of the old Bonnie Hunt talk show, but if they were, I would tape it. Even though I saw all of the episodes, I am pretty sure I’d enjoy seeing them again. I was so sorry when Hallmark started two new talk shows on their network, and neither one was the Bonnie Hunt Show!
