Tess Gerritsen – Rizzoli & Isles AND The Closer on TNT channel tonight!

July 12, 2010

I know that I am sounding like a television commercial lately… but just want to remind those of you who are addicted (as I am!) to The Closer… It’s finally back.

Also, the debut of Terri Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles show is tonight. Since I haven’t seen it yet, I can only hope that it is as good as some of the other shows the cable channels have been airing lately. Some of my very favorite shows can be found on TNT and USA! Who’d have thunk it?!?

Here is a link to my previous entry about TNT‘s new show :  Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles show.

And, here is a link that sort of provides a little information on another TNT show: The Closer.

I can only hope that Rizzoli & Isles is as good as The Closer!

Hercule Poirot : Murder on the Orient Express – Agatha Christie – PBS NEW Masterpiece Mystery!

July 11, 2010

Do NOT forget that the latest version of Murder on the Orient Express will be airing tonight, July 11, 2010. Yes, it’s true! The (British) actor David Suchet will deliver yet another perfect portrayal of the Belgian private investigator. (What Jeremy Brett is to Sherlock Holmes, David Suchet is to Hercule Poirot!)

I recently re-watched the 1974 movie version of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express (directed by Sidney Lumet) just so that I could compare that particular version to tonight’s Masterpiece Mystery! 90-minute version. (Having already read the Agatha Christie mystery, and seen both the 1974 version of the movie, and a 1930/1940 movie, I knew I wouldn’t be spoiling the actual plot.)

The 1974 movie stars Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot, and has a dream cast of actors from the 1970s. (Watching the 1974 Albert Finney Murder on the Orient Express reminded me of watching Murder, She Wrote… and having all of the “A-list” guest stars in one 2-hour movie…)

If you have a yearning for seeing: Albert Finney and (by alphabetical order) Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Anthony Perkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, and Michael York… all in the confines of a very luxurious, absolutely splendorous train setting, with gorgeous chandeliers that shimmer and shine, mother-of-pearl inlays in the (¿mahogany?) wood paneling of the walls, private sleeping cars that are without doubt unequal today, shared sleeping berths that would make you wish you could travel in the second-class section >>>Well then, this 1974 Murder on the Orient Express is for you!

BUT >>> If you have a desire for watching Hercule Poirot as only David Suchet can portray him, then make sure you are either sitting in front of your television tonight (on your local PBS station) OR you don’t forget to set your mode of recording!

I only wish that Hugh Frasier (Capt. Hastings) and Pauline Moran (Miss Lemon) could have come aboard!

Mystery Series with Tribal Herbology AND Mystery Series with WWII, New York Private Eye…

July 9, 2010

It’s that time again when I ask for help in identifying authors for Cozy Mystery site readers.  OK… I feel like I know this first author, but cannot seem to bring it to the front of my brain. So…

Allison would like to know who the author of these books is…

“The major character has an American Indian background and uses cures and concoctions based on traditional tribal herbology. She primarily deals with cases of abused women and usually takes them away and furnishes them with secure housing.
Does anyone recognize this author?”

AND

Linda would like to know the identity of this author…

“I know this is pretty vague information, however it’s all I can remember.  I’m looking for the author of 2 books – the books feature a female private investigator in New York City after WW2.  She works with a male FBI agent and she is looking for her boyfriend who has been missing since the war.  In the second book she goes to Germany to locate a missing woman and also searches for her boyfriend.  I think the books were published in 2007 or ’08.”

If anyone has a suggestion, please post a comment so that Linda and Allison can get back to reading some of their favorite authors. And, thank you for your help!

Hercule Poirot, aka David Suchet on the Orient Express

July 7, 2010

It won’t be Murder on the Orient Express, but it will be David Suchet on the Orient Express.

Tonight, on your local PBS station (unless they are doing a special funding drive) David Suchet will be taking us on a tour of the Orient Express. And, of course, all of you know that David Suchet is the man behind the man with the little gray cells: the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.

So, check out your local PBS station so that you are sure to see this one-hour special Masterpiece presentation. And if you miss it tonight, it just might be re-shown in your area. Our PBS station will be re-airing it on Friday, July 9 at 12:30 AM and on Tuesday, July 13 at 2:30 and 3:30 AM.

(I think I saw a show that seemed quite similar to this a few years ago, and truly enjoyed it. I hope that this one is as good!)
