Women’s Fruit of the Loom Has a “Flawless” TV Ad!

April 24, 2012

OK, I know this entry has absolutely NOTHING to do with Cozy Mystery books. BUT, I went into WalMart the other day, and as I browsed through the magazines targeted for women to buy, I was left wondering when we became a nation where the covers of women’s magazines look like… magazines featuring center-folds of women! I mean, who decided that women prefer buying women’s magazines with air-brushed young, voluptuous (yet skinny) women, with either low cut tops – or no tops at all. Hmmm…

But, not all companies are sending us these crazy messages about what we should be interested in. If you have a minute, here is an advertisement (On You Tube) that I absolutely LOVE. It’s message is terrific! Its the “Flawless” commercial for women’s Fruit of the Loom undergarments:

Sorry, I posted a video in 2012, and it no longer works. I hope you were able to see the ad when it was on. It was different than all the other adds that feature models who are unworldly thin.

And, if you would rather not watch this You Tube clip, then here are the words to the “jingle””

For all the places I want to see
These legs are a vehicle carrying me.
What more could I ask them to be?
They’re Flawless.

Flawless

Beauty magazines offer their tricks
Tell me: What are they trying to fix?
I can’t imagine how your embrace
would be any warmer on a twenty inch waist.
I’m Flawless.

Don’t you know you’re flawless.

Love it!

Meredith Cole, April Henry, Lee Hollis, Barbara Neely, Nicola Upson, and Lis Wiehl : New Authors to the Cozy Mystery Site

April 22, 2012

I have added six new authors to the Cozy Mystery site. These authors have all been recommended by some of you who think they would make good additions to the site.

Meredith Cole: Lydia McKenzie Mystery Series
Cole’s first book in the Lydia McKenzie Mystery Series was nominated for the prestigious Agatha Award. Lydia (main sleuth) is a New York photographer who replicates crime scenes so well in her photographs that it makes it look like she could somehow by involved in the crimes.

April Henry: Claire Montrose Mystery Series, Triple Threat Club Mystery Series, and Young Adult Stand Alone Mysteries
Henry’s first Claire Montrose mystery was nominated for the esteemed  Agatha Award for Best First Novel. She currently is co-authoring the Triple Threat Club Mystery Series with Lis Wiehl.

Lee Hollis: Hailey Powell Food & Cocktail Mystery Series
Lee Hollis is a pseudonym for brother (Rick Cop) and sister (Holly Simason). Rick wrote for several smash hit sitcoms (among them, Golden Girls and Wings) and Holly writes a cooking column in a newspaper. Together they write the Hailey Powell Food & Cocktail Mystery Series, which features a sleuth who is a newspaper “manager” and cooking column writer.

Barbara Neely: Blanche White Mystery Series
Neely’s first Blanche White mystery won the honored Agatha Award and Anthony Award for Best First Novel. The sleuth, Blanche, is an African American woman who works as a housekeeper.

Nicola Upson: Josephine Tey Mystery Series
As many of you know, Josephine Tey was the Scottish author of the Scotland Yard Inspector Grant Mysteries. Upson writes this mystery series, focusing on Tey as the 1930s London sleuth. (Upson “read English” at the University of Cambridge.)

Lis Wiehl: Triple Threat Club Mystery Series and East Salem Trilogy
Wiehl, a Harvard-educated lawyer (with her M.A. in Literature) writes the Triple Threat Club Mystery Series (with April Henry) and she also co-authors the East Salem Trilogy with Pete Nelson. the Triple Threat Club series features three women (a reporter, a prosecutor, and an FBI Agent) who pool all of their resources to solve crimes.

Christmas in Georgia, On a College Campus…

April 18, 2012

I received a letter from Loretta asking  for help identifying a Christmas mystery. Here is part of her letter:

“… I’m trying to find a Christmas mystery that I read a long time ago that took place in the south and I was hoping I could cross reference by place and publishing date on your site but I did not see a location category except for Britain. I can’t remember either the author or title but know that I read it in early eighties(and it was new then) and some other particulars: that it took place in Georgia, on a college campus and at Christmas. I did check out your Christmas category but had no southern category to match titles…

Thank you,
Loretta”

Since this is the third entry in a row where I am asking for your help in identifying an author or book, I am guessing that I don’t need to ask you to post a comment if you think you might know the book Loretta is hoping to find.

Thank you!
