October 13, 2017

If the “Coffee, Books, and More” store sounds familiar to you, then you no doubt read Lynn Cahoon‘s Tourist Trap Mystery Series. Here’s some good news about this series: Lynn Cahoon has been given the go-ahead to write three novellas. Get your Kindle fired-up! (Here’s the link to Lynn Cahoon’s page on my Cozy Mystery site. I have all of her series’ books chronologically listed. All you have to do is click on the link…)

Peg Cochran hit the Cozy Mystery scene when she released her first Gourmet De-Lite mystery. Gigi (a gourmet caterer) and her West Highland White Terrier (Reg) kept very busy while solving crimes between the food preps! Peg also writes the Sweet  Nothings Lingerie Mystery Series as Meg London. Well, for those of us who follow Peg/Meg >>> she has just signed on to write a new historical mystery series as Peg Cochran. (If you’d like to see all of Peg’s/Meg’s mystery series, be sure to visit the Peg Cochran page on my Cozy Mystery site.)

Holly Miller and her side-kicks Jack Russell Terrier (Trixie) and Twinkletoes, her Calico cat, will be doing a lot more sleuthing in Wagtail, Virginia! That’s right. Krista Davis just signed on to write at least two more mysteries in her Paws & Claws Mystery Series. Krista also writes the very popular Domestic Diva Mystery Series. (If you’d like to take a look at all of Krista Davis’ mysteries, make sure to visit the Krista Davis page on my site.)

Talk about keeping busy! Diane Kelly has signed on to write at least three mysteries in her new Framed for Murder Mystery Series. The first book entitled A House with Good Bones will introduce us to this Nashville-based series. Also, Diane will be releasing the seventh in her Paw Enforcement Mystery Series – The Long Paw of the Law. That will mean even more detecting is coming our way via Megan and her K-9 partner, Brigit. (I’ll be sure to let you know when Diane’s new series starts, but until then, you can click here to go to Diane Kelly’s page on my site to take a look at all of her mysteries.)

Casey Daniels (aka Kylie Logan & Miranda Bliss) seems to have taken a short break (from 2012 to 2017) before releasing her latest Pepper Martin mystery. I know a lot of us are happy Pepper finally returned! Well, here’s some news that a lot of Kylie Logan‘s fans will be very happy about. Kylie, the author of the popular League of Literary Ladies Mystery Series, will be starting a new series called the Jazz Ramsey Mystery Series. (Here is the link to Kylie Logan’s page on my site. It also lists all of Casey Daniels’ and Miranda Bliss’ mysteries.)

For all of us who have journeyed back to the end of the 19th century’s Newport, Rhode Island by reading Alyssa Maxwell‘s Gilded Newport Mystery Series – you’ll be glad to know she will be writing at least three more mysteries in this popular series. Way to go, Alyssa! (Here’s a link to Alyssa Maxwell’s page on my Cozy Mystery site.)

Carlene O’Connor has been bringing us mysteries revolving around sleuth, Siobhán O’Sullivan, owner of a family bistro in Ireland – in her Irish Village Mystery Series. Those of us who enjoy Siobhán’s sleuthing will be happy to find out that Carlene O’Connor is starting a new Irish Cozy Mystery series. Murder in Galway is the first book in the series. (Here’s the link to Carlene O’Connor’s page on my site.)

I think any of Clea Simon‘s fans would agree about this: Clea loves cats! If you visit Clea Simon’s page on my site you will see what I mean! Good news for cat mystery lovers, A Spell of Murder is the first mystery in Clea’s new Witch Cats of Cambridge Mystery Series. I’ll tell you more about this new series when I find out more.

Sergeant Cribb (USA) (or Just “Cribb” in Great Britain) Television Mystery Series

October 11, 2017

Let me first state that if you’re looking for high-tech special effects or modern-day filming techniques, this television mystery series is not for you. However, if you’re looking for a British police procedural set in the late 1880s that features good acting, very nice Victorian sets and wardrobe, with interjections of humor, then you’ll probably enjoy Sergeant Cribb as much as my husband and I do.

Peter Lovesey wrote the Sergeant Cribb mysteries, so it is a real treat that Peter Lovesey also had his hand in the writing of the scripts for these 1979-1981 television episodes. It ensures that the shows are as close as possible to the mystery novels. Unfortunately, there are only fourteen episodes.

Sergeant Cribb (I’ll refer to the shows by the USA title rather than the British “Cribb“) was produced in the late 1970s/early 1980s, by Granada Television. The series features Alan Dobie as Cribb, with William Simons (from the Inspector Alleyn television series) as his constable. The relationship between them is phenomenal. Cribb is able to be both a friend of sorts as well as a boss to Detective Constable Thackery. A lot of their interactions are quite humorous (on the dry side).

Don’t be surprised to find some actual events interspersed throughout the shows. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Victorian England’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Oh, and the episode featuring Inspector Jowell’s (Cribb’s boss, played by David Waller) boy’s boarding school reunion.

Sergeant Cribb and his constable somehow solve the mysteries that others are unable to solve. Cribb, it seems, has an innate gift for the world of detection.

(PS: For those you you who are Rosemary & Thyme fans, Peter Lovesey was a “story consultant” for many of the episodes.)
