Cozy Mystery News – June 2018

It’s June, and I have another set of good news for Cozy Mystery fans! Which is good, because I’m spending more and more time inside… it’s sure hot! (More time for reading!)

So, here’s the Cozy Mystery news for June 2018!

First, Nevada Barr will be releasing a stand-alone novel, in which the protagonist comes out of a “mental fog” in her sixties to realize that she’s been systematically drugged and committed to an Alzheimer’s care center. Some Cozy readers have told me they don’t consider Barr to be “entirely” Cozy, so keep that in mind. Nevada Barr writes the Anna Pigeon Mystery Series, which stars a park ranger.

In a bit more of a “definitely Cozy” category, Catherine Bruns will be releasing a new Cozy Mystery series which will star an Italian cook, so maybe we can look forward to recipes as well? Bruns already writes a number of series, including the Cookies & Chance Mystery Series, starring a baker, the Carrie Jorgenson Mystery Series, starring an aspiring actress working as a waitress, the Cindy York Mystery Series, starring a mother and wife who works as a real estate agent, and Catherine Bruns also writes some of the Aloha Lagoon Mystery Series, a Hawaiian set series written by a number of different authors.

Julia Buckley fans will be happy to know she will be writing at least two more Cozies in the Writer’s Apprentice Mystery Series. This of course means we’ll be seeing plenty more of Lena London, a writer’s assistant in Blue Lake, Indiana. Julia Buckley also writes the Undercover Dish Mystery Series, starring a caterer, and the Madeline Mann Mystery Series, starring a small-town reporter.

Kate Collins will be starting a spin-off of  her Flower Shop Mystery Series. Yahoo!  The Goddess of Greene Street Series will star a sleuth who is bound and determined to save her Greek family’s garden center business and (of course!) solve a murder. As I mentioned, this will be a spin-off of her Flower Shop Mystery Series, which stars Abby Knight, a florist shop owner.

As some of you who have been with me for a while know, I’m a fan of audio books. So this is particularly great news for those of you who share my enthusiasm for audio books… Audio book fans will be glad to hear that Mary Feliz‘s Maggie McDonald Mystery Series will soon be getting the audio treatment! This will include all four of the Cozies in her series, even the fourth entry which is scheduled to come out this July. The Maggie McDonald Mystery Series stars a professional organizer.

Fans of Allison Brook‘s Haunted Library Mystery Series have some really good news – she’s been asked to write at least two more entries. This means we’ll be able join Carrie in her sleuthing adventures as she heads the programs and events department of the Clover Ridge library! As Marilyn Levinson she writes the Golden Age of Mystery Book Club Mystery Series starring a professor and the Twin Lakes Mysteries, starring a retiree on Long Island.

Julie Anne Lindsey will be writing a new series! The Cider Shop Mystery Series will star a sleuth working at her family’s Blue Ridge Mountain orchard. Lindsey also writes the Geek Girl Mystery Series, starring an IT manager and the Patience Price Mystery Series, starring a counselor. Some of you may recognize Julie better as Julie Chase – who writes the Kitty Couture Mystery Series. This series features a sleuth who is the owner of a pet boutique and organic treat bakery in New Orleans. Others of you may recognize Julie as Jacqueline Frost, the author of the Christmas Tree Mystery Series.

Finally, last but definitely not least, Linda Wiken is getting a new pseudonym and mystery series, as she’ll be writing the Castle Bookstore Mystery Series under the name Essie Lang. The Castle Bookstore will be located in the Thousand Islands, New York. Linda Wiken also writes the Dinner Club Mystery Series starring an event planner, and (as Erika Chase) the Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery Series starring Lizzie Turner, a reading specialist.

Well, that’s a pretty good list! I’m guessing you’ll find that several of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors are planning on releasing new Cozies in the near future!

Two New Cozy Series Coming July 2018

There will be two new Cozy Mystery Series starting in July 2018 by site authors!

First, V. M. Burns will be releasing Travellin’ Shoes, the first in her RJ Franklin Mystery Series. Detective RJ Franklin Jr. is on leave recovering from a car accident from his normal position in St. Joseph, Indiana, when the death of a local choir director in a house fire calls him back to active duty. Choir director or not, the victim had a questionable reputation – his main job was as an accountant, and some clients thought he might be stealing from them, while rumors around the community indicate he was also something of a ladies’ man. The series will also include soul food recipes. V.M. Burns also writes the Mystery Bookshop Mystery Series, starring a book store owner and Cozy mystery author, and the Dog Club Mystery Series, starring a divorced CPA and member of a local dog club.

The other new series will be Lee Hollis‘s Desert Flowers Mystery Series, with first entry Poppy Harmon Investigates. Poppy Harmon is a retiree widow who suddenly finds herself penniless. With few marketable skills, Poppy decides to try to cash in on her enthusiasm for true crime television to open a private detective agency. Business isn’t going well, but she manages to land a job to recover stolen jewelry, only to stumble upon the dead body of her client’s rival. Hollis also writes the Hailey Powell Food & Cocktail Mystery Series, which stars a newspaper manager and cooking column writer.

New Releases – June 4 to June 10, 2018

Peg Cochran (aka Meg London): Bought the Farm (This will be the 3rd in the Farmer’s Daughter Mystery Series.)

Celina Grace: Fury (This will be the 11th in the Kate Redman Mystery Series.)

Diane Vallere: Panty Raid (This will be the 8th in the Samantha Kidd Mystery Series.)

Elaine Viets: Ice Blonde (This will be a novella in the Angela Richman, Death Investigator Mystery Series.)

Hailey Dean Mysteries – New June 2018 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries!

I have heard from someone at the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel about three (yes 3!!!) NEW Hailey Dean mystery movies that will be airing this month, and I want to hurry and get the word out since one of them is premiering tomorrow night. I am including their Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel re-airing schedules in case you miss them when they first PREMIER on the three consecutive Sunday nights. But, if you want to see them as soon as possible >>> be sure to go set your DVRs up the minute you finish reading this blog entry!

These terrific mystery movies are all based on the Hailey Dean Mystery Series written by Nancy Grace. (I think they are the closest we can get to the old Mystery Woman  movies that also starred Kellie Martin as the sleuth.) For me, it’s always special to see the author, Nancy Grace, in the movies!
