Cozy Mystery News – March 2019

March 8, 2019

March has another great set of news for Cozy Mystery enthusiasts, so I’m going to jump right into it!

First up, Joelle Charbonneau , who you may know as the author of both the Glee Club Mystery Series and the Rebecca Robbins Mystery Series has some news.  She will be releasing a pair of books in a new series, Verify, which sounds like a pair of science-fiction mysteries, for young adults, much like her very popular The Testing Thriller Series. (It looks to me like Joelle has made a very good transition from the Cozy Mystery genre to the Young Adult mysteries!)

Next up, Ann Cleeves (who is a not-quite-Cozy author, but very popular) will be putting out The Long Call, the first entry in her new Two Rivers  Mystery Series. This series will star a new detective in Devon, the UK, who has returned home to discover a secret at the heart of the community. Ann Cleeves is of course the author of the Shetland Island Mystery Series, starring detective Jimmy Perez, and the Vera Stanhope Mystery Series, starring police detective Vera Stanhope.

Here’s some great news for those of us who are Josie Prescott fans! Jane K. Cleland  (an Agatha Award recipient) will be releasing the 13th novel in her Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery Series. Josie is an antiques dealer in coastal New Hampshire who happens to have a penchant for solving crimes. The new novel will be titled Hidden Treasure. (I told you this is great news!)

Kaitlyn Dunnett will be putting out two more books in her Deadly Edits Mystery Series.  As an editor, Mikki Lincoln  has developed the skill of noticing every little detail, which helps her in her sleuthing. Kaitlyn Dunnett also writes the Liss MacCrimmon Mystery Series, and as Kathy Lynn Emerson, she writes the Elizabethan Mystery Series, the Lady Susanna Appleton Mystery Series, and the Diana Spaulding Mystery Series. It’s always a treat to find out one of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors plans to release two more Cozies!

For those of you who subscribe to some of Annie’s Mystery Series, here’s some news I’m pretty sure you’re enjoy hearing about: Elizabeth Penney will be writing three books that will kick off the Apron Shop Mystery Series. The series will feature a sleuth who not only solves murders in Blueberry Cove, Maine – but she also manages to find time to run a vintage apron boutique.

Finally, Hank Phillippi Ryan (another not-quite-Cozy mystery author on the site) will be releasing The Murder List, which is a stand-alone novel. This will be a thriller about law student Rachel North who is quite sure she knows exactly how everything in her life is going… or does she? Hank Phillippi Ryan is the award winning author who writes the Jane Ryland Mystery Series, starring a newspaper reporter, and the Charlotte McNally Mystery Series, starring a television reporter.

And that wraps up this month’s mystery news!

One New Cozy Mystery Series, One New Cozy Mystery Holiday Book Coming March 2019

March 6, 2019

Well, last month I tried running this type of post for the “current” month rather than a month early and asked people what their opinion was regarding when they wanted to see it. The results were close, but slightly veered toward seeing it a month in advance, so that’s what I’ll be doing going forward. After this post, we’ll still be a month “behind” at this point by that method, so we’ll be having another of these “upcoming new series and holiday Cozies” in the next few days for April’s releases.

That said, this is March’s releases!

Essie Lang will be releasing Trouble on the Books, the first in her new Castle Bookshop Mystery Series. Shelby Cox is returning to her hometown of Alexandria Bay in upstate New York to take her aunt’s bookstore’s second location on a nearby island, but as the town is preparing for tourist season, her own preparations will be cut short by the death of a local volunteer coordinator. Essie Lang might be a new name, but you may recognize her other pen names, Linda Wiken (under which she writes the Dinner Club Mystery Series) and Erika Chase (under which she writes the Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery Series).

Karen MacInerney will be putting out the fifth book in her Dewberry Farm Mystery Series, Dyeing Season, an Easter-themed Cozy. Lucy Resnick has a lot to prepare for this spring season, and a tornado swinging by her property doesn’t help things… nor does discovering the body of a neighbor’s home health aide when she’s about her property trying to round up her scattered livestock. And that won’t be the only body found this Easter season… Karen MacInerney writes multiple other series, including the Gray Whale Inn Mystery Series, the Margie Peterson Mystery Series, and the Beading Mystery Series.

I’ve Heard about Christmas in July, but What about September and October?

March 2, 2019

I’ve been busy updating the Soon to be Released page on my site, and it looks to me like some editors have decided to showcase Holiday Cozy Mysteries! As some of you know, I’m all for that!

I know I’ve talked a whole lot about how we never see a “real” winter here in San Antonio.  Today, while I was walking our puppy (Cocoa), I saw three different houses that had irises blooming. Yep … we are three weeks away from spring, and already we have flowers blooming that usually wait until “early spring to early summer” (according to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden site). (I absolutely love reading Cozies during the holiday season – they give me a little taste of the colder months that I miss…)

Not only are there Christmas themed Cozy Mysteries being released in September and October, there is one that’s going to be released in August! And, I found a New Year’s Eve book as well!

Wow, am I glad someone is making more holiday Cozies available for readers like me who look forward to reading them!

So here’s a reminder for you all: Take a look at the Soon to be Released page on my site every once in a while. (I try to keep it updated.) Not only will you be able to find Holiday Cozies, you will probably find one, two, or even more of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors who will be releasing new books.
