My Life is Murder is a terrific Australian television mystery show. (Why is it that the best mystery shows are imports?!) If I had to describe it in just one sentence … let’s see … I guess I’d say it has the same overall feeling as the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries only it’s set in present-day Australia and the sleuth isn’t as interested in men.
The sleuth of this Australian mystery series is Alexa Crowe, a retired police detective who is determined to live a quiet, uncomplicated life while baking artisan bread at home. (Alexa is brilliantly played by Lucy Lawless.) Unfortunately for Alexa, her old partner from the police force keeps intruding on her quiet bread-baking life. Detective Inspector Hussey (Bernard Curry) seems to pop up all over town to fill Alexa in on difficult cases he needs her to solve. (When I say “pop up” that’s exactly what I mean! How about while enjoying a Tai Chi class in the park?)
Alexa is “aided and abetted” by Madison, a very capable computer whiz (as in hacker!). Ebony Vagulans is terrific as Madison – and although I don’t recognize her from anything else, I sure hope I see her in lots of shows in the future.
My husband and I are slowly making our way through the My Life is Murder series. It’s one of those shows we know will be limited since Australian series don’t have as many episodes in a season as we do here in the States. (Yet another complaint related to the second sentence in this blog entry!)
I definitely recommend the My Life is Murder mystery show! We are watching it through our Amazon Prime membership on our Acorn subscription.
