Our daughter came home for her last “while-in-college” spring break, and I have oh-so enjoyed having her here. She only has a little over two months left of school before she returns home to study for the bar exam. And, the good news for us, is that when she finishes with that, she will be working in Austin.
Some of you have been with this site long enough to know that she went to the University of Texas in Austin for her undergraduate studies. It only takes us (+/-) an hour and half to drive all the way to the center of Austin. Of course, all of this depends on the traffic>>> which has a lot to do with whether you are trying to get across the bottle-neck bridge, or not!
We decided that it would be best if we simply took it easy while she was here, since it is her last college vacation. There wasn’t much more than hanging out on our schedules. She was able to go to two movies, and get a lot of walking done. (I never mentioned this before, but all four of us have Fitbit pedometers. I absolutely love mine! I try to get 10,000 or more steps in every day. I have only missed a few days since having the Fitbit. Not bad for someone who was pretty couch-potato-sedentary five months ago!)
So, at this point, I am full of conflicting emotions. I am really enjoying her visit home right now, I am dreading when she has to go back to school, but I am also excited about her moving back to our area in less than three months.

Congrats to all of you!!! Very heartwarming. We are rooting for her and those exams!!!
I walk too–husband and I walk 2 miles every morning (or if it’s cold we go in the afternoon). It’s already been 80 here (as you well-know, I’m sure.) The tomatoes will be setting soon!!! I can’t wait!!!

Maria, I can’t say I’m crazy about the 10,000 daily steps, but at least it gets me up from the computer a few times during the day!

Lovely post Danna!

Margaret, our daughter left earlier today, and I’m already looking forward to her return this summer…

Danna, It is so nice when families can be close together. My oldest daughter and her family live down the street, and my son lives just a few miles away. My heart was broken when my youngest daughter and her family moved to CO because of her husband’s job. They have lived there for 15 years and now my grandchildren are truly Coloradians. I miss them so much but thank God for airplanes. They come East once a year and we go out there a couple of times a year.

Regina, you are so lucky to have two of your children so close. The good news about your youngest daughter is they picked a beautiful state. How nice that you visit them so often.
Petie says
I know she’s happy to be home for a while too and then how great she’ll be back and then to work in Austin (and for an Aggie like me to say that city’s name you know I have to like you – ha!). And I’ll have to check out the Fitbit – after this office all day long the sofa is my next & last stop after cooking dinner! 10,000 steps? I may have to check this out and give it a try.

Petie, after 33 years of working for the government, my husband has decided to retire. We’ll be able to hit the “Fitbit trails” together.
(Imagine what life has been for Rick Perry! An Aggie living in Austin!)

Hope you enjoyed your time with your daughter Danna

Linda, it was fantastic! She is one of my best friends – now that she is older. (No, my husband and I weren’t “best friends” type of parents when the children were young!)

I can remember times while my daughter was growing up that I had to step aside from being a best friend to being the mom. This sure wasn’t always easy. But oh, how I loved that little girl. I still do so very much.

Kudos to your daughter! Mine is in the same spot with about 7 weeks to go…she will return to the hometown digs in before sitting for the bar exam in July.
She asked me for something light to read over the winter break. I gave her a stack of my Rhys Bowen books and was delighted when she shared her positive review of Her Royal Spyness! We both agreed that a young woman must be resourceful and clever to make it, no matter what century!
So, hip-hip-hurray for our clever girls!

Jamey, I have introduced my daughter to several authors when she was in need of some “down time” >>> a few who she really enjoyed. Among the authors were Cyril Hare, Anne George, and Alexander McCall Smith. Our girls deserve a break today >>> actually, any day!
Toni says
Hi, Are you still using your fitbit? Your post inspired me to want to buy one. I thought about it last year and forgot about it and just saw this old post. I enjoy your blog. Thank you!! 🙂

Yes, Toni, I am still using my Fitbit. I aim for 10,000 steps every day, and try to go a little higher, but don’t always succeed. Unfortunately, I must have increased my calorie consumption, because I still weigh about the same!
