Here is the last part of the Medical Field Sleuths theme. This list is comprised of authors who are on the Cozy Mystery site who write mysteries that feature sleuths who are in the medical field, but aren’t your traditional “doctor, nurse, or midwife”. As you can see, these amateur sleuths’ professions are pretty varied.

What about Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles … police/medical examiner.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Sheila, Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles would definitely qualify for this list. Thanks for mentioning the series.
Tessa says
Thank you for this very different kind of a list!
Happy Monday,
Tessa~

Tessa, I hope you find a few sleuths in the “sort of” medical field about whom you enjoy reading.
Cindy A. says
Thanks Danna for the site period! I love it.
I do have a Cozy Mystery series I started reading many years ago about a young woman that started her own Crime Scene clean-up. I am hoping that the author is still writing it and someone can tell me the series. The only surviving general bookstore, after the total demise of the other, has just shrank it’s selection of Cozy Mysteries and the authors continually change due to lack of space and sales.
The main character is female and had a young man working for/with her also. She could see and communicate with the victims and I believe that this was only possible if they met Foul Play. The young man was a friend and great help, but it seems that she may have been going to lose him to another career choice that he wanted or something like that.
I wish I could tell more or at least the time period, but can only come up with this and that it may be around the early 2000’s.
Any help would be great! Thanks again to the readers and Danna of this site!
Cindy A.

Cindy, I’m not sure if I know the books you’re looking for… but there are a few series about crime scene cleaners that might fit. The first is the Squeaky Clean Mystery Series by Christy Barrett, and the second is the Ghost Dusters Mysteries by Wendy Roberts (she is not on the site – the first entry in the series is The Remains of the Dead). I suspect you might be looking for the second series, since you do mention that there is a significant supernatural element…

All of these sound interesting. I have one about murder on campus and two med students who find more than they bargained for when they look for part time work to help pay their tuition and fees and general expenses. No spoilers here – if you want to know about their adventures you’ll have to read “L.I.F.E.” – and no, it’s a stand alone not a series and takes place in the near future. I like series too – both to write and to read, but I have stand alones too. Any comments or advice on them welcome and good luck and good reading to all of us.
Jackie

Thanks, Jackie, for telling us about your L.I.F.E. “sort of” medical field novel.
LadyD says
Bill Pomidor’s Cal & Plato Marley series. She’s a pathologist and he is a family physician.
Fran Rizer’s Callie Parrish series, morturary cosmetologist
Danna - cozy mystery list says
LadyD, thanks for telling us about Bill Pomidor’s Cal & Plato Marley Mystery Series, as well as Fran Rizer’s Callie Parrish series. I agree that a mortuary cosmetologist qualifies as a “Medical Field (Sort of…) type of field.

May I add my thanks for all the work and care you have put into this wonderfully useful and entertaining site. I never thought I would have anything to contribute, but I remembered purchasing some mysteries involving a pharmacist.
Renee B. Horowitz wrote 3 books that comprise the Ruthie Kantor Morris mystery series:
Rx for Murder; Deadly Rx; and Rx Alibi

Mel Starr’s Hugh de Singleton. A ‘surgeon’ in 14th century England. The closest thing to a doctor of the times, he compounded pain relief potions and set bones, etc, (and charged for his services.).
I’m not really sure if he would qualify as a ‘doctor’ for the purposes of the list or not, so I’ve put it here.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susan*, I think Hugh de Singleton would probably qualify as a doctor of those times. Thanks for telling us about Mel Starr‘s medical Chronicles of Hugh de Singleton, Surgeon series.

This is SO fantastic, and an intelligent search tool. You never know what you need until somebody shows you what you’ve been missing.
Many, many thanks.

I read a book some time ago and I cannot remember the author full name, but I think his last name was Marby or Marbry. Does that ring a bell for anyone. Thanks for any input?
Thank you in advance

Hi Linda H.
Could you be thinking of Dr. Richard L. Mabry? Dr Mabry’s work includes Stress Test, Code Blue, and Lethal Remedy.

mpq, thank you.

Stacey R says
Do you think you could change the description “Ambulance Driver” to Paramedic. It’s just that we find being called ambulance drivers degrading.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Stacey, if you are referring to the Jade del Cameron Mystery Series, the sleuth is not a paramedic – she was an ambulance driver in World War I. I don’t think she had any actual medical training beyond basic first aid.
Tina H says
If this series fits, it will be because of the “sort of” clause LOL
I’ve been reading the series “Body Movers” by Stephanie Bond. One of the main characters is an Ex-ME (he lost his license) and now he’s a Body Mover for the morgue.
Jamey Madison says
The Enchanted Bay Mystery series is set in an herbal apothecary, and the main character works in the shop as an herbalist. The series talks about herbal remedies frequently.
J J Sherman says
Hi Danna,
I found your site and really appreciate all the effort you’ve put into making lists of hobbies, themes, occupations, etc. for those of us who love relating to our mysteries in these ways! I was wondering about pharmacists. There have been several books where the pharmacist dies; but, as a pharmacist myself, I’d enjoy reading more books with my occupation in them. Renee Horowitz wrote a series with a pharmacist as the main protagonist on Amazon. I have a book on Amazon, as well, called Scorching Secrets: An Addison Best Pharmacy Mystery. Would you consider starting another section on pharmacists? Thank you in advance for entertaining my request!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
J J, I’ll give that some consideration! It has been a long time since I put up a new profession category – I’ll have to look around and see fi there are enough to justify a category.
