Good news for a whole bunch of Cozy Mystery readers! As the title of this entry says, Mignon F. Ballard‘s Miss Dimple and Augusta Goodnight will be sharing the spotlight in the 5th Miss Dimple (and I guess the 8th Augusta Goodnight) Mystery Series: Miss Dimple and the Slightly Bewildered Angel. It won’t be released until the fall of 2016 so we all have a long wait, but it sure is good to know!
A lot of Cozy Mystery readers were very disappointed back in 2008 when they realized Hark! The Herald Angel Screamed was the last they would see of Augusta Goodnight. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Augusta Goodnight, she started out as a “temp” guardian angel who went from one case to another during the course of the first four Cozy Mysteries in the series. She then became permanently attached to Lucy Nan Pilgrim in Stone’s Throw, South Carolina. I should mention that Augusta isn’t the one who actually solves the mysteries, but she sure helps guide the actions of the people she’s with.
Miss Dimple Kilpatrick, on the other hand, is a teacher at Elderberry Grammar School in Georgia, during World War II. She has a close group of friends, and a younger brother she adores. She loves her quaint town and all of her students. Oh, and she wears purple in honor of her fiancé who died in the Spanish American War.
I can only imagine, looking at the title of this Cozy (Miss Dimple and the Slightly Bewildered Angel) how these two strong personalities are going to mesh!
Martine says
What a great idea – two of my favorite characters – including one of whom I didn’t expect to ever read again – together. Yay!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Martine, I was pretty surprised when I saw the news about the two of them getting together…
Ruth N says
Enjoyed both series and gave up hope on new books in these series. Thanks for the good news. Ruth

Ruth N, it’s too bad we have to wait until January, but it’s great it’s going to happen! (***I meant to say “next year” not “January”!)
Ruth N says
Is the book coming out in January 2016 because in the blog you said fall of 2016.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Ruth, I’m sorry about this. I meant to say “next year” not “January”!
Kivara says
Does anyone know if there are any more “Miss Dimple” books in the works? I fell in love with the character, and was sad to find there are only 5 books featuring her…I could happily read dozens more!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kivara, I’m not sure – it’s only been a few years since the last entry, so it’s still possible, but I’m not sure if Ballard is still writing or not. She would be in her 80s by now.
