I have got to say, I can’t get over how many Holiday Mysteries are being released during September 2014. This is great news for those of us who love our holiday Cozy Mysteries!
At first, I was going to list all of them together in one entry. However, there are so many Holiday Mysteries being released during September, that I decided to highlight each holiday separately. Since Halloween is the closest on our calendar, I’ll start with it.
New Halloween Mysteries:
Jacklyn Brady (aka Sherry Lewis) will be releasing Rebel Without a Cake. This will be the 5th in her Piece of Cake Mystery Series. Rita Lucero is a pastry chef in New Orleans. She and Miss Frankie, her mother-in-law (previous MIL), own the Zydeco Cakes bakery. In this Halloween theme mystery, they will be catering a big event. Oh, and if you enjoy your mysteries with recipes, your in luck with this series! (As Sherry Lewis she writes the Senior Sleuth Fred Vickery Mystery Series, which has a retiree as its sleuth.)
Daryl Wood Gerber (aka Avery Aames) is releasing Stirring the Plot, which will be the 3rd in her Cookbook Nook Mystery Series. This Halloween mystery is set in Crystal Cove, California. Jenna Hart is the sleuth, and she has stocked her café and cooking bookshop with all sorts of Halloween-y items. Unfortunately for Jenna, the murder that takes place is not a trick-or-treat prank. (As Avery Aames, she writes the Cheese Shop Mystery Series which takes place in Ohio and has, as its sleuth, the co-owner of a cheese shop.)

I see a lot of discussion about “holiday” mysteries. Am I the only one who reads whatever I can get my hands on whenever I can, irregardless of the season in the story? I read 20 – 30 books/month, currently have out abt 50 library books, plus another 10 or so library ebooks on kindle, plus a stash of about 60 unread books [that i own] in my nightstand… just in case…. and about 120 more on kindle that were free or 99cents — if I had to now keep track of all these by season — I’d go crazy — and never get any reading done at all! 😉

Stash Empress, you probably aren’t the “only one” but I think there are a lot of us who like to wait for the appropriate holiday to read holiday theme Cozy Mysteries. Here’s an old entry from May 4, 2012 where we discussed just this Cozy Mystery dilemma:
Read the Mystery Book Now, Skip This Mystery Book and Continue with the Series, OR Just Wait and Read It Later?

I’m currently reading the newly released, ‘Muffin But Murder’, by Victoria Hamilton. It’s set in the fall with a Halloween party at the castle as the big event.

MJ, thank you for telling me about Muffin but Murder being a Halloween theme mystery. I don’t know how I missed adding it to the Halloween theme page. Thanks!

Nope. Not the only one, Stash Empress!
“…reads whatever I can get my hands on whenever I can…” definitely describes me! I’ll read anything, anytime, anywhere! Lol! (Well, almost. There’s ‘some’ things I won’t read in public, for example…)
Welcome to the ranks of the ‘Readaholics’ though! Lol! Our (Un)Official motto is ‘So many books, so little time!’
Cheers!

(Un)Official motto???? I thought that was my OFFICIAL motto 😉
LOL!

I saw this on Facebook: There is no such thing as too many books. However, there is such a thing as not enough room.
I loved it because that is my life – although that is also one of the reasons my parents gave me a Kindle several Christmases ago.

FYI, Danna
‘Paws for Murder’ by Annie Knox has a Halloween theme.

MJ, thank you! I just added Paws for Murder to the Halloween mystery theme page.
Thanks, again!

No, I don’t necessarily save a holiday book to read at the appropriate time. But…..I’ll say if I can read it during that particular time of year, it makes it so much more enjoyable and, if possible, “cozier”. Does anyone else know what I mean by the feeling that envelopes you when you read about everyday, mundane things when someone else is doing them? It makes me want to do those things – bake, prepare the garden, decorate, even clean. However, I try to resist that particular urge, lol. Holiday cozies are definitely my favorite. (Although still bemoaning the fact not many of the current books being written measure up to my favorite holiday cozies from my favorite authors who are no longer being published. I know – yada yada, yada – I’m still missing them

Mary Joy, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I love to read about how a favorite sleuth is decorating her porch, or store window, ets. Or how she is baking all sorts of goodies, although I don’t do that anymore, it makes me sort of get the feeling of how fulfilling it used to be when I did bake holiday treats.
Now that our children are grown, I have to be honest, I sometimes need to sort of make myself decorate. I don’t want to sound like a Grinch, so I will add that once I do start unpacking all of the ornaments our children made over the years, I “get with the program”.

I forgot to add my current favorite cozies are the Booktown Series by Lorna Barrett. Though not necessarily holiday themed, I’m pretty sure holidays are mentioned in a couple of them. Very old-school cozy style, my fave.
