Well, it’s been quite some time since I’ve mentioned new authors, but I have been adding here and there in the background… here are a few more that I definitely feel are worth putting up on the front page instead!
First up is a bit of a cheat, but still a new page I added… Bree Baker, who is going to be more familiar to Cozy readers already as Jacqueline Frost, Julie Chase, and Julie Anne Lindsey. Well, she’s added a fourth name to her list, as well as the Seaside Cafe Mystery Series, which stars Everly Swan, the owner of an iced tea shop and cafe on the beach of Charm, North Carolina. The name change slipped past me for a bit, so I thought I’d mention it to anyone who hadn’t noticed yet either.
Libby Klein grew up in New Jersey in the ’80s, was a stay-at-home-mom, and is now a grandmother. She is also the vice president of a technology company, and now lives in northern Virginia. Klein is the author of the Poppy McAllister Mystery Series, which stars Poppy McAllister, owner of a gluten-free baking business in Cape May, New Jersey.
Olivia Matthews is the Cozy mystery pseudonym for Patricia Sargeant, an author better known for romantic suspense and contemporary romance novels. Olivia/Patricia has written for many national magazine publications, as well as conducted many writing craft workshops and offers online fiction writing courses. Her Cozy Mystery series, the Sister Lou Mystery Series, stars Sister Louise “Lou” LaSalle, a Los Angeles native now living in Briar Coast, New York, working at the Sisters of St. Hermione of Ephesus.

I really liked the Libby Klein book.

Kathleen, thanks for the recommendation!

I just recently discovered Julia Chase. Now I will need to add her additional names to my lists.
The lists just keep on growing and growing and growing….
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Susy, it always does!
Mer says
I just found these seaside cafe mysteries by accident and I just love them especially as a long time vacationer to the Outer Banks!! I also love the Eva Gates Library lighthouse mysteries. Outer Banks overload!! And that’s a good thing?!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mer, thanks for the recommendations!
Susy S says
I LOVE the Lighthouse series. It is on my must buy/read NOW list.
Bek says
The Outer Banks ferry is a 45 minute drive from my house. Eventually, I’m going to take two days and drive the whole thing…well, I’ll ride and someone else will drive. I have sudden vertigo attacks, and I DO NOT drive anymore!
Susy S says
Vertigo SUCKS. I had issues with it for years before they replaced my broken stapes. I didn’t even know it was broken for a couple of years, until my hearing started to impacted. Still get occasional dizzy spells, but no more real vertigo.
Hope you really enjoy that drive.
Bek says
THANKS! Wish you could make it with me, we could pack picnics and books!
Susy S says
That would be fun. Maybe add a nice couple of special tea or glass of wine at the end of the day to top it off in style.
Bek says
I do like the way you think! Although, with Dorian barreling down on us, I’m not sure how much Outer Banks there will be. Lord, we’re JUST recovering from Florence. There are still homes here with tarps on the roof, waiting for materials that are back-ordered!
Susy S says
Try to stay safe! Keep a good lantern handy since I remember those time when the power went out as good times to read (took my mind off the storm some).
Bek says
I have a really nice little LED lantern, as well as a GOOD supply of batteries! AND I have a hand-crank emergency radio that has a USB port for phone charging! Got that after Florence last year!
Janice G says
I have really enjoyed Bree Baker’s series. I liked the Jacqueline Frost books and I didn’t realize that it was the same author. Talking about a new name for an author, Ali Brandon who wrote a bookshop mystery series is writing a new series under the name Anna Gerard. Peach Clobbered is the first book in what is called A Georgia B&B Mystery.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Janice, thanks for letting me know – I’ll have to add it to her page.
Bek says
Now, don’t be sad, ’cause two outta three ain’t bad…MUST try both the Seaside Cafe Mystery series (North Carolina, after all), AND the Sister Lou series (because, well, nuns).
Had to throw those lyrics in there, snortle…
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Bek, yes, two out of three definitely “ain’t bad.”
MJ says
I thought the name Bree Baker sounded like a pseudonym, but there was no other name ties at her website. Also very little information about her biography. The copyright in her books are to ‘Bree Baker’. Oftentimes a copyright go to the author’s ‘legal name’ on the title page. Sometimes when the copyright is in the pseudonym, the publisher owns the rights to that name and that series. I don’t know if that’s the case here or not.
I liked Baker’s books so well, that I’m pleased to find her other names. I can now try some of her other books to see if I like them as well. That’s the advantage of knowing an author’s full repertoire of pseudonyms — more readers, more sales!
BUT, here’s an FYI for those living near NE Ohio and western PA (I found this info when searching in google for Bree Baker)……….
There will be a book fair on Nov. 2nd in Wooster, OH., featuring several (100?) authors who live in Ohio. The list includes cozy authors Bree Baker and all her pseudonyms, Olivia Matthews, Kylie Logan (and, her pseudonyms), and Amanda Flower/Isabella Allen. There are also numerous other authors (illustrators and photographers) listed. Evidently it’s the location this year for the annual Buckeye Book Fair promoting Ohio authors, etc.
WOW! What a line-up. I wish I lived nearby so I could attend!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
MJ, thanks for the heads up! I also won’t be able to attend – Ohio is very far from Texas – but maybe someone else will see this and have an opportunity to check in.
Susy S says
I really wish this was last year, and I was aware of it. I lived in Maryland until January of this year, and we made ‘booking’ drives to Ohio and Pennsylvania with some frequency.
Oh, probably just as well, I had enough boxes of books to move.
Alyssa says
I loved the Seaside Cafe books. I didn’t know she had other pen names and will definitely add those to my Goodreads list!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Alyssa, I’m glad I mentioned the connection then!
Glen says
I’m a bit curious, but it seems to me that a lot of these writers are from the east side of the country! I’m wondering if there’s something in the water! Several of my favorite authors are from Maine, and quite a few from Michigan. Come on, west coast authors! Get to writing!!!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Glen, hmm, there certainly does seem to be a big concentration on the ease coast. Well, not sure I’d call Michigan the east, though. Still, it’s an interesting point!
MJ says
Glen,
Both Bree Baker, et al, and Olivia Matthews are from Ohio. I consider that the Midwest, not the east coast. I read several authors who live in the in the Northwest (Dyer-Seely, Budewitz) and the west coast (E. Fowler is just one example). AND, some of my favorite authors (especially Wittig, MacInerny) live in Texas. Several others live in the south.
I often times see an author who lives in the Midwest (or even other places) set their mysteries on the east coast. Just one small example, the popular Laura Child hails from Minnesota, and sets her tea series in Charleston, and her scrapbook series in New Orleans.
Nancy Parra is a Midwest resident, yet the author biography for the Kensington Palace series written under the pseudonym of Nel Hampton states she lives in VA………..not true!! In this case the publisher made up the biography for this pseudonym, which they have the right to do because they own the name. Which just illustrates, sometimes you have no idea where the real author lives when their bio (from the publisher) is as fictional as the story.
Susy S says
Glen, two of my favorites, Jenn McKinlay and Paige Shelton live in the Phoenix area. There are also a number in Oregon, Washington and California as well as Texas. I might be a case of timing that makes it appear that they are all easterners.

MJ< I want to thank you again for letting me know that Bree Baker is Jacqueline Frost, Julie Chase, and Julie Anne Lindsey. It's another case of you solving a mystery! I remember when you let me know about Kate Dyer-Seeley being Ellie Alexander. I don't know how you do, but thank you! (I wish publishers and/or authors didn't feel the need to make up new people to write their series.)
