Those of you who have been with me for a while may remember how much I like Patricia Moyes. I had just found out about her wonderful Henry Tibbett Mystery Series when I decided to start reading all of my books on a Kindle. I quickly became spoiled by being able to adjust the font of my books. I hadn’t read the entire series, but since I “knew” Henry Tibbett would soon be Kindle-ized, I gave Goodwill all of my paperbacks. Hmmm… Who would have guessed that it would take years and years for the Patricia Moyes series would finally be released in e-book format!
Anyway, just yesterday I found out the first eleven Henry Tibbett’s are now available in Kindle format. It took me about one minute to order the next one, and then I decided to order the first one as well so I can write a blog entry about it. I’ll be posting that soon – although I am currently spending my reading time on holiday Cozies.
(I was going to just post a quick note to let you know about the first eleven Henry Tibbett mysteries being Kindle-ized, but got a little carried away.)
P.S. By the way, even though Henry Tibbett is a Scotland Yard inspector, I find this series to be very Cozy…

Thanks so much for sharing this exciting news. Love Patricia Moyes and can’t wait to load up on them.

Mary, I’m going to be reading Dead Men Don’t Ski for my entry blog since it’s been so many years since I read it. This is one of those times when I’m thankful I don’t have the best memory. I have a feeling I’ll read the book with just a whisper of déjà vu…

I also loved the Henry Tibbett series although I read them ages ago. I’m happy for you that it has been Kindle-ized. I’m having the opposite experience because, for various reasons, I prefer the mass market paperbacks and find that more and more of my favorite authors are no longer being printed in that format. It can be challenging when your choice is not that of the majority. I’m so glad to have your blog to help me find new (to me) authors that are still available in my preferred format. Thank you for that. And Happy Holidays to all.

Ingrid R, thank you for the holiday greetings. I hope you have a happy holiday season as well! It seems like publishers have some quirky ideas of how to get books to the public. I noticed that a lot of authors who traditionally wrote paperbacks have been switched to hard cover books…

Danna – The joy of reading Kindle cozies was discovered by me a couple years ago by a priceless gift of a Kindle from my Stepdaughter Dearest (I am her Stepmonstet Dearest). I had vowed I’d never get a Kindle, as I had a lifetime of REAL books I’d collected and loved the look of books on shelves or in piles on tables next to my bedside, in the living room and even in the dining area. But the special joys of Kindle reading overwhelmed me. I can carry a large library with me in my purse for times when you have to sit and wait – doctor’s office, airport, restaurant, as a passenger in a car… I can read in the dark in bed while spouse is snoring away; there’s nothing like reading a good cozy during the dark hours (especially during a thunderstorm snuggled in the blankets when the power has been knocked out). And the page brightness, font type and size and even boldness can be adjusted to suit your vision preferences. And there are many FREE out-of-copyright classics to load into the reader from Amazon; and the 99 cent anthologies of classic fiction/short stories/many genres are too tempting not to load in seconds onto your kindle to have available in your vast portable library. The Kindle doesn’t require frequent charging, so during the weeks after Hurricane Harvey wiped out utilities ( power, landline and cell phone service, TV, and most roads were undriveable because of debris -everyone for months would get flat tires – I sat in my hot home reading mysteries on Kindle. PS – for months after Harvey here in Gulf-side Rockport, TX we had plagues of hungry mosquitos keeping us inside our homes existing, if lucky, with a generator for a refrigerator, one small room air conditioner, a lamp, and a charging cord for my Kindle and the non-existent cell phone service (I also used my chargers using the plugs in my car for computer/cell cords). Just wanted to give readers who’ve shunned e-readers reasons for supplementing your tangible books with an electronic reader.
Danna – Thanks a million for your Cozy Mysteries blog. It is a wonderful community asset to the enjoyment of reading cozies.

TXRed, oh my goodness, I have thought about how awful the disasters have been all over the world. However, one thing I never thought about is something as terrible as “plagues of hungry mosquitos” – which of course would accompany something as catastrophic as Hurricane Harvey. There are alot of consequences that people who haven’t gone through a catastrophe of this magnitude would possibly never think of…
As for your use of a Kindle, I am with you! My husband had to literally convince me to try his Kindle. I simply wasn’t interested in getting one … until I finally tried his! I had stopped reading authors whose books had tiny font. I would put on my reading glasses, but I felt like my eyes were straining. Heron Carvic‘s Miss Seeton series (which have recently been Kindle-ized!) were the books that finally convinced me to accept my husband’s old Kindle (he wanted a newer version) and I quickly became hooked.

~mutters to self~ must get a kindle reader…

Bek, it’s definitely convenient in a lot of ways.

I used to love the Patricia Moyes books. And thank you so much for reminding me of them! I still have hard copies of a few of the later ones (not on Kindle yet so will hang on to them!), The Coconut Killings, Six Letter Word for Death, and Who Killed Simon Warwick. Thank you again for reminding me of one of my favorite authors, and so glad they are now on Kindle!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Jane S, Patricia Moyes is one of the very few authors whose books I was sorry I gave away. I thought for sure she was already Kindle-ized when I donated them to Goodwill. I was so sorry when I went to buy the next one on my TBR list. I waited and waited for these to be released…

I hope some day Jill Churchill’s Jane Jeffry series is Kindle-ized. I know it’s doubtful since she doesn’t seem to be writing anymore.
I will check out Patricia Moyes. Sounds interesting!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Gail, ditto on that! Jill Churchill is another author who I would love to see Kindle-ized.

I am not a kindle reader. I have tried and just can’t do it! But Henry and Emily have always been one of my favorite couples and this is definitely one of the great classic series. I agree with you, since I never thought that it was anything but a cozy. In fact many years ago at the tender age of 10, Dead Men Don’t Ski was the first murder mystery I read, followed immediately by Agatha. Rex Stout and Ellery Queen. I recently reread Dead Men and it still held up. I also still have all the paperbacks!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Robin, it’s definitely a great series, and I’m looking forward to jumping back in again. It’s been too long since I’ve read this series last.

I was a long-time hold-out on Kindle until my son got me one this past Mother’s day…I ignored it for a month and then thought I would at least try it so I wouldn’t hurt his feelings…..now you couldn’t pry it out of my hands!!! I love that I have 700+ books at my fingertips at any time, don’t have to worry about lighting and can adjust the font size (it wasn’t until I got my Kindle that I realized I hadn’t been reading as much because the print size was too small).
I love the Henry Tibbets books and didn’t realize they’d finally put them on Kindle and at a fairly reasonable price to boot!!!! I am going to treat myself and get them all for a ‘Christmas’ present.
I have all of Agatha Christie’s books along with M.C.Beaton, Catherine Aird, Ruth Rendell, and others…. I re-read my favorite authors and tend to ‘binge-read’ series in orders… I am so glad I will now have Patricia Moyes ‘Henry Tibbets’ books now.
Thanks so much for the heads-up!!!

BelleMichele, I wonder how many of us put off getting our Kindles! My husband had tried for quite a while to get me to try his Kindle. I just wasn’t interested. That was a few years ago, and I now have my library at my fingertips. We drive to Colorado Springs about four times a year to visit my brother, and I know that if I finish a book, I can just go to one of my folders (I separate my books by “themes” – “favorite authors”, “authors to try”, “holiday” books, etc.) and pick a book to start reading. I was pretty excited when I found out Patricia Moyes is now Kindle-ized.
I definitely agree that it’s very convenient having a large number of books convenient in one place, as well as the print size comment – it’s great to be able to read something without as much eye strain or having to hunt down a more expensive and rarer large print edition.

One of my favorite authors also…. last week finished ‘Death and the Dutch Uncle’ and do have all of the series in paperback. I still prefer reading paper books. One of the problems for me with Kindle reading is if I need to flip back to see ‘now who is that person, etc., it’s so easy with a paperback and not so much with a Kindle. Maybe I just need a better memory… ha!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
PamB, you and me both! Even when I was a lot younger, I relied on writing myself notes. I would actually make a list of the places I had to visit on my errand days. Of course, that was probably my OCD also. I used to make my errand lists according to their locations since I hated back-tracking. As for Patricia Moyes, you are smart to not have parted with them!

Hi there,
It has been awhile since I have written but this thread caught my attention. I likely use the oldest Kindle ever made and have been reluctant to replace ‘what still works’. But I admit that having the light and changing the font size would sure be helpful. I recall that the Paperlight has the best reviews but wondered what you all are using and prefer?
Also while mentioning old favorites…Barbara Michaels comes to mind.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kim, I use my husband’s old Paperwhite (I don’t know which version) to read my books and I also have a very, very old Kindle of his that I play Mahjong and Sudoku on. My husband likes gadgets, so I inherit a lot of his older versions of things. I really like my Paperwhite. I keep the background light down so I can read as much as I like in bed without waking him up. I also leave the font at a larger size than I actually need so my eyes never feel a strain.
