Well, I’ve already put up a news post this month, or I might have folded this into that… but apparently Hallmark has decided to continue the Aurora Teagarden franchise, based off of the mystery series by Charlaine Harris. Having lost much of the original cast, instead of attempting to continue the series going forward, they will be making a prequel movie with several key roles recast. Marilu Henner will still be featured as Aurora’s mother Aida, but Skyler Samuels will be taking up the role of Aurora, while Evan Roderick will be playing Arthur Smith.
Personally, I think this is great news, and I’m glad to see the series continue in whatever form. Samuels and Roderick are obviously much younger than the role has been played before, but considering that this is intended to be a prequel to the existing series certainly helps that make a lot of sense.
Mary Cecilia says
This is one of many cozy mystery TV films I enjoy, so great news.
Can not wait?
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mary, I hope it’s good.
Mary Cecilia says
Me too.
Diane Zipay says
Thanks for the update. I love this series by Charlaine Harris.
The Hallmark movies have been very well done, too.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Diane, you’re welcome!
Pen says
No, I don’t like the idea of a “prequal”! I saw this news last week and I still don’t like the idea and won’t be watching it. I don’t know what is going on over at Hallmark’s Mysteries, but it seems like they are putting out less and less mystery movies. That is the only reason I watch the Hallmark channel at all.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Pen, I’d say this definitely seems to be a mystery series for the channel to continue, not part of the reduction in mysteries…
Lea says
Oh this is exciting. I love that series but it was ruined for me a bit. New actors will definitely give it a fresh feel!
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Lea, I hope so as well!
Corinne says
It won’t be the same. Candice created this role.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Corinne, there are plenty of sleuths that are played by multiple actors across the years… Basil Rathbone was great as Sherlock Holmes and Peter Ustinov was a good Poirot, but my favorites for those roles were Jeremy Brett and David Suchet… I’m just hoping that people will give this version a reasonable chance.
Kathy Ersland says
Where is Sally? Can’t have Aurora Teagarden without her best friend. Sally!
Kathy
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Kathy, the plot will include Sally apparently, but I didn’t include her because I couldn’t find anything on her new casting.
Charli G says
I’m so happy the series will continue…never missed an episode 😁 CMG
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Charli, I hope it’s as good as the others!
Mary Cecilia says
More please.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Mary, I certainly hope so as well!
Nadine H Dickie says
When will this be aired? Won’t miss CCB.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Nadine, I’m not sure – all I have heard at this point is the casting, so it likely won’t be out for a while.
Kim says
I just saw this on Hallmark’s website…
Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New, premieres Friday, June 9 at 9/8c.
Linda says
This makes me so happy. I love this series. It was the 1st cozy mysteries I got into because I was already a Charlaine Harris fan from her other series. Not meaning to be negative but good riddance to Candace Burke. Hope this series continues to flourish.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Linda, I also hope it does well!
ALC says
Thanks for the information. I have always loved a good mystery and the ATG Mysterys were always enjoyable without being ridiculous. I’m looking forward to a new fresh cast. It might put a whole new spin on things.
Esther Catherine Strauch says
Hello,
Do you or anyone know if someone will continue the wonderful, talented series of Sheila Connolly? The Murder She Wrote series has continued with several authors and every book is great.
Danna - cozy mystery list says
Esther, not that I have heard.
Lee Rozinski says
I think it will be great! It seems Hallmark has listened a little bit and seem to be doing more mysteries, some repeats and some new. I love them all. I wish they would the Tea Shop series by Laura Childs!
