I received a letter from Loretta asking for help identifying a Christmas mystery. Here is part of her letter:
“… I’m trying to find a Christmas mystery that I read a long time ago that took place in the south and I was hoping I could cross reference by place and publishing date on your site but I did not see a location category except for Britain. I can’t remember either the author or title but know that I read it in early eighties(and it was new then) and some other particulars: that it took place in Georgia, on a college campus and at Christmas. I did check out your Christmas category but had no southern category to match titles…
Thank you,
Loretta”
Since this is the third entry in a row where I am asking for your help in identifying an author or book, I am guessing that I don’t need to ask you to post a comment if you think you might know the book Loretta is hoping to find.
Thank you!
Regina says
I thought Ann Waldron, but most of her books are placed in and around Princeton.

I know, Regina, I thought it might be Charlotte MacLeod‘s first mystery in her Peter Shandy series (Rest You Merry), but they take place in Massachusetts. (That Christmas book got me hooked on that series!)

This is fun! I tried a google search again, and came up with the same answer as to the last question (Hannah Sweeney mysteries), so I’m sure that’s not write. Perhaps this library booklist of academic mysteries set on college campuses will help. I looked through a few sites and didn’t see anything set in Georgia. http://librarybooklists.org/fiction/adult/mystery.htm#mystbib
Hope someone figures it out!

I meant to say “I’m sure that’s not right.” Yikes! too much writing!

Thank you, Susie!
(Spell-checker is good, but would be great if it could change our “spelled-correctly-but-no-cigar” words. I have done the “Bare with me.” MANY times!)

Loretta, there is a section for ‘Mysteries set in specific states’, and there is one for Georgia.
You need to go back to the ‘Cozy Mysteries by Theme’ page, and scroll down.
Best of luck!
Btw, I was thinking Valerie S. Malmont, but she’s Pensylvania.

*Susan, you sound like your on the same wave length as Regina and I are. All three of us had that small problem with the state…

Danna, I laughed and laughed when I read that book. The picture of all those lights flashing while he escaped what he designed really was hilarious. That was a very good series. It combined humor and a mystery very skillfully.

Regina, I think MacLeod’s Sarah Kelling series might be more “famous”>>> but I still prefer her Peter Shandy series.
Regina says
Danna, After writing my previous comment, I wonder if some day your correspondents would like a discussion about humorous mystery stories. You did para-normal; let’s try funny.

Regina, this would make a very good theme. Thanks!

Nancy Bell’s ” Miss Biggie” series should be on that list of funny mysteries. These are really funny but I haven’t seen any new books added to this series for quite a while.

Oh my gosh, Linda, thanks for reminding me about Nancy Bell’s Miss Biggie mystery series. You’re right, there hasn’t been a new one in a very long time.

I’d be up for funny!
I loved all of Charlotte MacLeod’s writing. She also did a series as Alisa Craig and one of those was funny AND paranormal.
Another funny, terrific mystery is “The Thin Woman”. It’s the book I wish I’d written.
As far as the original question, I thought it might be one of the Meg Lanslow mysteries by Donna Andrews, but I see they were written fairly recently.

Kay, Charlotte MacLeod is one of the authors on my “favorite authors” list.
