P. J. Alderman, Jackie Chance, J. Michael Orenduff, & S. S. Van Dine… Four New Authors on the Cozy Mystery Site

May 3, 2011

Here are the four newest additions to the Cozy Mystery site. These four authors are people who some of you have recommended as belonging on the site:

P. J. Alderman writes the Port Chatham Mystery Series. This series belongs in the paranormal category. Jordan Marsh is the sleuth who lives in the Pacific northwestern coast of the USA. She solves her mysteries while inhabiting her haunted house…

Jackie Chance writes the Poker Mystery Series. This series follows the sleuth as she leaves her old life in the advertising field (as well as her fiancé) and becomes an amateur status poker champion…

J. Michael Orenduff is an ex-math professor who writes the Pot Thief Mystery Series. This series is set in Albuquerque, and centers on Hubert Schuze, a treasure hunter who owns the Spirits in Clay shop…

S. S. Van Dine is a pseudonym for an art critic who wrote the Philo Vance Mystery Series. Philo Vance is a rich art collector in New York. (One of my favorite actors – William Powell – played Philo in several movies… which, if you are familiar with Powell’s work, might give you an idea of Philo’s personality…)

Terri Blackstock, Marion Moore Hill, J. J. Murphy, & Sue Owens Wright : Four Newest Mystery Authors Added to the Cozy Mystery Site

April 20, 2011

I have just added four new-to-the-site mystery authors to the Cozy Mystery site. I will (again!) remind you all that these are not authors who I have read. These four authors have been recommended by other Cozy Mystery site readers – as mystery authors who they think belong on the site.

Terri Blackstock: Blackstock is an award winning Christian author (including the New York Times) who writes several different series: Restoration Series, Cape Refuge Mystery Series, Newpointe 911 Series, Sun Coast Chronicles Series and also series that are neither mystery nor thriller: Season Series and Second Chances Series.

Marion Moore Hill: Hill has worked as both an English and Journalism college teacher and also a reporter. She writes two mystery series: Scrappy Librarian Mystery Series, which is set in Oklahoma and features a librarian and her dog, Rip. Hill also writes the Deadly Past Mystery Series, which features a single mother who solves mysteries at historical sites.

J. J. Murphy: Murphy has used the “real life” Algonquin Round Table as the basis of her mystery series, as well as “real life” poet/author Dorothy Parker, as her sleuth. The Algonquin Round Table Mystery Series is based on the 1920s lunch group of wits, actors, critics, and writers who used to get together for lunch at the Algonquin Hotel.

Sue Owens Wright: Wright pens the Beanie & Cruiser Mystery Series which features Beanie, a sleuth who is a free-lance reporter in Nevada, and her beloved Basset Hound, Cruiser. Wright has also written some non-fiction books that are about dogs… 150 Activities for Bored Dogs being one of them.

Suzette A. Hill, Virginia Lowell, Ada Madison, David Rosenfelt, & Nicola Slade … Five New Mystery Book Author Additions to the Cozy Mystery Site…

February 8, 2011

From time to time, I get recommendations (from Cozy Mystery site readers) of mystery book authors who they feel belong on the site. These authors are new to me, but of course, many of them are not “new authors” to you all. Here are the latest mystery book author additions to the site:

Suzette A. Hill writes the Reverend Oughterard Mystery Series. This series features the vicar with Maurice (his cat) and Bouncer (his dog) in a British village. (Hill is an English graduate and ex-teacher of English Literature.)

Virginia Lowell writes the new Cookie Cutter Shop Mystery Series. The series will feature Olivia Greyson, the owner of the Gingerbread House Cookie Shop. (Her first book is not due to be published until April 2011.)

Ada Madison may be a new name in the Cozy Mystery arena, but don’t be so sure you aren’t familiar with the author! Madison is also known as Margaret Grace AND Camille Minichino! As Madison, she will be writing the Sophie Knowles Mystery Series, which will feature a mathematics college professor who is also a sleuth (and beader!)

David Rosenfelt  writes the Andy Carpenter Mystery Series, which features a defense attorney who also runs a dog rescue. Rosenfelt has been nominated for four major mystery book awards – the Edgar, Nero, Shamus, & Barry. (Also, Rosenfelt has rescued over 4,000 dogs!)

Nicola Slade writes the Harriet Quigley Mystery Series. This series has, as its sleuth, a retired headmistress. She is helped by her cousin, Canon Sam Hathaway – a clergyman at Winchester Cathedral. Slade also writes a British, historical series: the Charlotte Richmond Investigates Mystery Series which is set during Victorian times.
