While I was preparing the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel May Cozy Mystery movies list I found myself wondering if it was February or if I was accidentally going through the regular Hallmark channel’s schedule? I really enjoy watching the old documentary shorts that they used as filler time in theaters years and years ago. James A. Fitzgerald is the presenter on these old documentaries from the 1930s and 1940s. (No, I wasn’t around for these theater gems way back then!) I not only enjoy seeing what the different destinations of the films were like back then, but I also enjoy seeing what the people were wearing back then. Women in dresses – sometimes wearing hats, men in suits and ties… It certainly was a different world! Anyway, on Thursday, April 5 the Turner Classic Movies channel will be showing a lot of these documentary shorts featuring Mexico. On Wednesday the 4th they’ll be showing shorts on Curaçao, Guatemala, and Havana. There are other documentary shorts sprinkled throughout the month, as well as the rest of the year.

There are a several mystery movies that will be playing this month, however it seems like there aren’t as many as usual.

Great news! This month Diane Mott Davidson‘s Goldy Bear Cozy Mystery book series will be premiering as a Hallmark mystery movie! That’s right – Goldy is back — and this time it’s in movie format! It looks like the movie series won’t be using the Goldy Bear Series moniker, rather it looks like it’s going to be called the Curious Caterer Series. On April 10 the first movie in what I hope is a very long series will be PREMIERING. Dying for Chocolate is the movie – so be sure to go set up your methods of taping the show right now! (And this isn’t an April Fools joke!)

On another note, I have gone ahead and posted “Romance Movies” rather than leave a bunch of the days empty this month. As I said last month, since this is the Cozy Mystery site, I’m not listing the romantic movies nor am I listing the Christmas movies.

I sure enjoyed reading your responses to my Turner Classic Movies entry. I sometimes wonder if Robert Osbourne no longer being “the face” of the channel is what is driving them to add newer movies. (I sure do miss him!) I have an old recording device (a Sage) on which I still have a lot of movies that he introduced – and I always enjoy seeing his introductions.

This month the channel is doing a whole lot of diverse themes which has sort of cut down on the mystery movies they will be showing. However, there are still some pretty good ones coming up. The 1934 Alfred Hitchcock “The Man Who Knew Too Much” is playing on Saturday, April 23. Most of us are pretty familiar with the 1956 version that starred Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day.

Oh, and for all of you who are fans of the Perry Mason television series, Barbara Hale (aka the absolute best Della Street actress of all time!) will be in the 1949 non-Perry movie “The Window” on April 24.
