Two New Non-Christmas Holiday-Themed Cozies and One New Cozy Mystery Series Coming October 2019

September 19, 2019

October will be another very busy month for Cozy Mysteries, with a whopping 8 holiday-themed Cozies and one new Cozy Mystery Series by an established author! Well, normally with that many I would split them into two posts… but here, the new series is starting with a holiday release! So I’m just going to arbitrarily split them into two groups, one of non-Christmas mysteries and the new series, and save the just-Christmas mysteries for this weekend. That leaves us with three for today!

First up, Lynn Cahoon will be putting out A Very Mummy Holiday, which will be either a novella in the Tourist Trap Mystery Series or a novella in the series. (Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t have a length for this one…) Jill is taking a break from her book and coffee shop to spend Thanksgiving on the Oregon coast with her boyfriend and a bunch of other friends and family. But the holiday might be cut short when one of the other guests locates old human remains in the nearby dunes, and she’ll need to put her holiday on hold to make sure that the mystery gets solved. Lynn Cahoon is also the author of the Cat Latimer Mystery Series starring a former English professor and the Farm-to-Fork Mystery Series starring the owner of a farm to table restaurant.

Next, Isis Crawford will be putting out A Catered New Year’s Eve, the 15th in the Mystery With Recipes Mystery Series. Bernie and Libby Simmons are reuniting with Ada Sinclair, a distant relative for New Years’s Eve, catering for a questionable ploy to flush out the murderer of another relative year’s ago. Naturally, this goes wrong, and when one of the guests Ada planned on accusing ends up dead, Ada ends up arrested for the deed. Bernie and Libby are the only ones who can find the true culprit. Crawford also writes as Barbara Block, the name she uses for the Robin Light Mystery Series, starring a pet store owner.

Finally, the last for this set will be Julie Anne Lindsey‘s Apple Cider Slaying, a Christmas mystery and the first in her new Cider Shop Mystery Series! Wonona Mae Montgomery and her Granny Smythe run a struggling orchard in Blossom Valley, West Virginia, but have decided to try to make up some business with a Christmas party at the orchard geared toward locals and tourists alike. Unfortunately, the party will be crashed by the corpse of Granny’s old nemesis, leaving Granny the most obvious suspect! Julie Anne Lindsey writes several other short series, including the Fortress Defense Mystery Series, the Geek Girl Mystery Series, and the Patience Price Mystery Series.

Seven New Holiday-Themed Cozies Coming September 2019

August 18, 2019

As I mentioned on Friday, September is going to be a great month for Cozies – I’ve already discussed the three new series coming, but today I’ve got seven holiday-themed Cozies to discuss! Most of these will be Christmas mysteries – with one at the end for another holiday. (I don’t want to spoil the surprise!)

First, I’m not going to go into detail on this one, because I already discussed it with new series, but Mollie Cox Bryan will be releasing Christmas Cow Bells, the 1st in her new Buttermilk Creek Mystery Series. For more, check out the post I’ve already put up on new series releases in September.

Next up, Ellie Alexander will be putting out A Cup of Holiday Fear, the 10th in her Bakeshop Mystery Series. Jules Capshaw and the staff of the Torte bakeshop are preparing for the Christmas holiday season, and they need a break. So Jules arranges a celebration at the local inn… which unfortunately turns deadly as one of the guests ends up deceased. Ellie Alexander also writes the Sloan Krause Mystery Series, and (as Kate Dyer-Seeley) the Rose City Mystery Series and Pacific Northwest Mystery Series.

Bree Baker (aka Jacqueline Frost, Julie Chase, & Julie Anne Lindsey) will be putting out Tide and Punishment, the 3rd in the Seaside Café Mystery Series. Everly Swan is preparing for the Christmas season by decorating her iced tea shop, but it’s more than a little distracting that her Great-Aunt Fran is running for mayor of Charm, North Carolina. Still, managing both seems possible… at least, until the candidate running against Fran turns up dead on the night of the first scheduled debate. Bree Baker writes under a variety of other names, including Jacqueline Frost, Julie Chase, and Julie Anne Lindsey, and is the author of the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery Series, the Kitty Couture Mystery Series, the Cider Shop Mystery Series, and the Patience Price Mystery Series, among others.

Next up, Laura Bradford will be putting out A Killer Carol, the 7th in her Amish Mystery Series. Claire Weatherly, owner of an Amish gift shop, is enjoying the Christmas season by helping friends both English and Amish alike to find the perfect gifts, but the scenic Pennsylvanian holiday season is marred by the murder of an elderly Amish couple, and Claire’s friends Ruth and Samuel Yoder seem like the most likely suspects. Laura Bradford also writes the Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery Series, the Tobi Tobias Mystery Series, the Jenkins & Burns Mystery Series, and (as Elizabeth Lynn Casey) the Southern Sewing Circle Mystery Series.

Meg Macy will be putting out the 3rd in her Teddy Bear Mystery Series, titled Have Yourself a Beary Little Murder. Sasha and Maddie Silverman are celebrating the holiday for more reasons than normal this year, as the Silver Bear Shop and Factory has just won the Teddy Bear Keepsake Contest, allowing them to produce a special holiday specialty toy this year. Unfortunately, as it so often is, this holiday will be ruined by the looming specter of death, in this case the unexpected death of the town mayor dressed as mascot Santa Bear, apparently just before his appearance at a local tree-lighting ceremony and parade. Meg Macy is also half of the writing team that uses the pseudonym D. E. Ireland, under which she writes the Eliza Doolittle & Henry Higgins Mystery Series.

The last of the Christmas releases (but not the last of the holiday releases!) won’t be a novel, but a collection of shorter novellas – specifically three, one by Maddie Day, one by Carlene O’Connor, and the last by Alex Erickson (who isn’t on the site, but I’ve heard good things about!) The collection itself will be titled Christmas Cocoa Murder, after Carlene O’Connor’s entry in the set, which will be a story in her Irish Village Mystery Series. Maddie Day’s entry will be Christmas Cocoa and a Corpse, and will be an entry in her Country Store Mystery Series, while Alex Erickson’s will be titled Death by Hot Cocoa and will be part of his Bookstore Mystery Series.

Wow, that’s sure a lot of “Christmas in September”! Still, I did promise one non-Christmas Cozy – and here it is! Nancy Coco will be putting out Fudge Bites, the 7th in her Candy-Coated Mystery Series, and a Halloween themed mystery! Fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy is looking forward to Halloween on Mackinac Island, but the season is going to be ruined in a now-familiar way – Allie has the misfortune to stumble upon a body between the historic McMurphy hotel and the fudge shop. Nancy Coco also writes as Nancy J. Parra, under which she writes the Wine Country Mystery Series, the Baker’s Treat Mystery Series, and the Perfect Proposals Mystery Series, as well as the name Nell Hampton, which she uses when writing the Kensington Palace Chef Mystery Series.

One New Cozy Mystery Series and Three New Holiday-Themed Cozies Coming August 2019

July 19, 2019

August will be a good month for Cozies, with a good mix of new series by established site authors and holiday entries in older series.

First, T.C. LoTempio will be starting a new series, the Purr N’ Bark Pet Shop Mystery Series, with The Time for Murder is Meow. When the cancellation of actress Crishell “Shell” McMillan’s television show leaves her at loose ends, she takes the opportunity to do what she’s wanted for some time, taking over her late aunt’s pet shop. But when a local museum board member who had feuded with her aunt turns up dead, Shell quickly becomes the first suspect. LoTempio also writes the Cat Rescue Mystery Series and the Nick and Nora Mystery Series.

Ginger Bolton will be putting out a Fourth of July themed mystery, Jealousy Filled Donuts, the third in her Deputy Donut Mystery Series. Emily Westhill, owner and operator of the Deputy Donut Cafe, is preparing dozens of donuts for the local Fourth of July picnic. Unfortunately, a killer uses the donuts for sinister purposes, concealing a firecracker within a pile that ends up killing a local. Bolton also writes as Janet Bolin, under which name she writes the Threadville Mystery Series.

Maya Corrigan will be releasing a Halloween themed mystery, Crypt Suzette, the sixth in her Five-Ingredient Mystery Series. Val Deniston, manager of the Cool Down Cafe at the local fitness club, has been wondering about a lodger at her grandfather’s house, Suzette, who seems to have something of a nervous disposition and possibly a checkered past. When Suzette is killed by a hit-and-run driver after a Halloween costume contest, Val decides someone needs to investigate the issue a bit more thoroughly.

Finally, Vicki Delany will be releasing Silent Night, Deadly Night, a Thanksgiving novel and the fourth entry in her Year-Round Christmas Mystery Series. While the residents of Rudolph, New York, might keep the Christmas spirit up year round, that doesn’t mean they don’t celebrate other holidays, and Merry Wilkinson is preparing for both Thanksgiving and a reunion of her mother’s old college friends. When one of the old friends ends up poisoned, Merry will need to help solve this dastardly case to help salvage the holiday cheer. Vicki Delany also writes the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery Series, the Ashley Grant Mystery Series, the Ray Robertson Mystery Series, the Klondike Mystery Series, and (as Eva Gates) the Lighthouse Library Mystery Series.

One New Cozy Mystery Series and Three New Holiday-Themed Cozy Mysteries Coming June 2019

May 15, 2019

June will be a relatively good month for Cozy mysteries, with three new holiday-themed Cozy Mysteries by established site authors!

First, Nancy Atherton will be putting out the 24th in her long-running Aunt Dimity Mystery Series, titled Aunt Dimity and the Heart of Gold. This will be a Christmas outing for Aunt Dimity, who will be enjoying the season despite an outbreak of illness in the small English village of Finch. Still, there are enough out and about to attend Emma Harris’s annual Christmas party, and those who do attend will be surprised to find that there will be a mystery needing solving!

Next up, Devon Delaney will be continuing her Cook-Off Mystery Series with its third entry, Guilty as Charred, a Fourth of July themed entry! Competitive cook Sherry Oliveri is in high demand in her hometown in Connecticut, but the holiday is likely to see a bit of a downturn with the death of community garden manager Poppy Robinson. Poppy may not have been the most likable, but that’s no reason to whack someone over the head with a shovel – and now the garden’s future is threatened by an owner unhappy with the development! Can Sherry figure out the culprit in time to return to her Fourth of July cook-off plans?

Finally, Amanda Flower will be putting out Toxic Toffee, the fourth book in her Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series (which I just discussed recently)! Bailey King is in New York to finish up the shooting for her first cable TV show, but she’ll need to make a fast return to Harvest, Ohio, when she hears that local bunny farmer, Stephen Raber has died of what at first seemed to be a heart attack. However, it’s quickly apparent this was no accident – Stephen was poisoned, and by a piece of toffee! Amanda Flower writes many other mystery series, including the Magical Bookshop Mystery Series, the Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series, the Magic Garden Mystery Series, and the Living History Mystery Series.
