Cozy Mystery News – August 2017 – Part 1

August 8, 2017

I have several Cozy Mystery newsy tidbits that I want to tell you all about, so I’m going to post the second part of this Cozy Mystery News entry tomorrow. (Good grief, it’s been a while since I did this!) Let’s see, I think I’ll do this alphabetically >>> starting right now:

Stephanie Blackmoore (previously a lawyer and, even a librarian!) will be releasing Gown with the Wind – a new book in her Wedding Planner Mystery Series. This time, wedding planner Mallory Shepard will have a surprising client…

Ali Brandon will be starting the new Tarot Cat Mystery Series. That’s right, this will be in addition to her Black Cat Bookshop Mystery Series. The Tarot Cat series will be set in a santería shop in Florida. (According to Dictionary.com, a santeria is: “a religion merging the worship of Yoruba deities with veneration of Roman Catholic saints: practiced in Cuba and spread to other parts of the Caribbean and to the U.S. by Cuban emigrés.”) As Diane A.S. Stuckart, she writes the Leonardo da Vinci Historical Mystery Series.

We haven’t seen the Prissy Fox Shop owner Reagan Summerside since 2015, so fans of Duffy Brown‘s popular Consignment Shop Mystery Series will be happy to know book #6 (Lethal in Old Lace) will be taking us back for another visit to Georgia. By the way, Duffy Brown writes the Cycle Path Mystery Series and is also known for her romance novels which she writes as Dianne Castell.

Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli has signed on to write books number 3 & 4 of her Little Library Mystery Series. Jenny Weston will again be sleuthing up a storm in Bear Falls, Michigan. Fans of Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli (aka Elizabeth Lee for the Nut House Mystery Series) probably also know her as the author of the Emily Kincaid Mystery Series, which also takes place in Michigan.

Kate Carlisle is one busy Cozy Mystery author! Many of you know that this bestselling author’s Fixer-Upper Mystery Series is one of the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel mystery movie series. Well, here’s some more good news! She has just signed to write two more Cozies that will feature California-based Shannon Hammer. (Hopefully that will give us more mystery movies to look forward to!) Kate Carlisle also writes the Bibliophile Mystery Series.

Eva Gates (pseudonym for Vicki Delany) writes the Lighthouse Library Mystery Series, and for those of us who are fans, there will be at least three more Cozies in this series! That’s right, librarian Lucy Richardson and her Himalayan library cat, Charles, will be on the trail of criminals. As Vicki Delany she writes the Year-Round Christmas Mystery Series, the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery Series, the Constable Molly Smith Mystery Series, the Ray Robertson Mystery Series, and the Klondike Mystery Series.

Debra H. Goldstein is someone who knows how to juggle titles. She’s not only wears all of the titles associated with being a wife, stepmom, and mom, but she’s also worked as an attorney and judge. She will be releasing One Taste Too Many, which will be the first in a series that features one of a set of twins as its sleuth. She also writes the Carrie Martin and the Mah Jongg Players Mystery Series along with the Denney Silber Mystery Series.

As I said at the beginning of this entry, I’ll be posting the second part of this Cozy Mystery News blog tomorrow.

Here’s the second part of this newsy entry:

Cozy Mystery News – June 2017

June 23, 2017

I don’t have much news to report this month, but what I do have is really great news for a lot of us. So here goes…

For all of us who follow Lorna Barrett‘s Booktown Mystery Series>>> Tricia Miles (the owner of Haven’t Got a Clue mystery bookstore) will be back for a new crime-solving adventure. Lorna Barrett (aka Lorraine Bartlett and L.L. Bartlett) writes this very popular New York Times bestselling series – so I know there are a lot of us who are excited about this 12th Cozy. An interesting thing about this series is that it’s a Cozy Mystery series with a sleuth who is a fan of Cozy Mystery series, so there is a sprinkling of some of our favorite Cozy authors within each book.

There is also some great news for those of us who read Sandra Bretting‘s Missy DuBois Mystery Series. Sandra Bretting has just been given the go-light on her fourth, fifth, and sixth books. Sandra Bretting not only writes this series, which features Missy – the owner of the Crowning Glory hat shop – but she is also a freelance journalist.

As I said at the beginning of this entry, I don’t have a lot of news to report this month, but what I do have is great news!

Cozy Mystery News – April 2017, Pt. 2

April 12, 2017

Yikes! It feels like I just posted a Cozy Mystery news entry, but since I have some new information, I had better get going on this!

Lynn Cahoon has absolutely taken off since she first started releasing her Cozy Mysteries! She is both a New York Times and a USA Today bestselling author, so I’m sure plenty of you will be very happy to hear that she will be releasing at least three more Cozies in her Cat Latimer Mystery Series. That’s right, ex-English professor Cat will be continuing to run her retreats for writers in Colorado. (Lynn Cahoon also writes the Tourist Trap Mystery Series.)

Most of you already know that Jessie Crockett (author of the Sugar Grove Mystery Series) also started writing the Change of Fortune Mystery Series. These two Cozy Mystery series were very different from each other – one featuring a present-day sleuth living on a maple sugar grove in New Hampshire and the other (written as Jessica Estevao) featuring a psychic with a dubious past in the late 1890s. Well, the good news is that she will soon be starting the Beryl and Edwina Mystery Series which is set during the 1920s, and takes place in England. Beryl is a rather loud American friend of reserved, British Edwina. Beryl moves in with Edwina and the two form a private detective team. She will be writing this series as Jessica Ellicott.

You would think that Charlaine Harris is keeping super busy – with all the Aurora Teagarden mystery movies on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel, as well as writing new Aurora Teagarden mysteries (after over a ten year hiatus). However, this New York Times bestselling author is about to start a new trilogy! That’s right, in 2018 Charlaine Harris will be releasing her first book in her new Texoma series. This will be a fantasy series and will be set in what is called “fractured America” – in an alternate universe where Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been assassinated and America is split into five territories. (Charlaine Harris has had a whole lot of success with her paranormal Sookie Stackhouse book series which was made into HBO’s True Blood series.)

As most of you can remember, a while back there was news about Cozy Mystery authors whose contracts were being terminated. It was bad news for a lot of us! Recently I have seen several authors being picked up by other publishing companies, which is great news for a lot of us! Let me just get to the point… Molly MacRae‘s Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery Series will be back with at least two more Cozies! That’s right! I’ll let you know as soon as I find out when they’re being released!

For those of you fans of historical Cozies who have been waiting and waiting to find out what Lady Phoebe Renshaw and her maid (Eva Huntford) would be up to next, you’ll be happy to know that Alyssa Maxwell is scheduled to release at least three more books in her Lady and Lady’s Maid Mystery Series. Yay!

Wow! This sure has been a great month for news! It seems that as quickly as I post an entry, more news comes in!

Cozy Mystery News – April 2017

April 5, 2017

I don’t know where the time goes! I have been meaning to write an entry telling you about the following Cozy Mystery news tidbits, but for some reason, I keep getting side-tracked! So, I’m going to hurry up and tell you about these good-to-hear pieces of Cozy Mystery news. (I’m not going to alphabetize the authors’ name – this time I’m going to write my entry the way my mind works >>>  tangent upon tangent!)

Here’s some terrific hot-weather news! Lucy Burdette (aka Roberta Isleib) is going to be writing at least two more Key West Food Critic mysteries! Hayley Snow will be critiquing food down in Key West, with a side of solving crimes. I told you this was terrific news – regardless of the weather!

I’m going to follow the news about hot-weather places/events by telling you that after Vickie Fee‘s Fourth of July Cozy is published (One Fete in the Grave), there will be a fourth Li & Di in Dixie mystery in this series that features Liv McKay, a crime-solving party planner in Dixie, Tennessee.

Staying with the hot-weather theme, I want to be sure you all know that Ellen Byron won the Lefty Award’s Best Humorous Mystery Novel for Body on the Bayou, the second in her Cajun Country Mystery Series. While I’m telling you about Ellen Byron, don’t let me forget that her third book in the series is a Christmas-themed Cozy Cajun (A Cajun Christmas Killing).

Which brings me to the other 2017 Lefty Award Winners:

Catriona McPherson won the Lefty Award for the Best Historical Mystery Novel – Dandy Gilver and the Reek of Red Herrings

Alexia Gordon won the Lefty Award for the Best Debut Mystery Novel – Murder in G Major

Louise Penny won the Lefty Award for the Best Mystery Novel – A Great Reckoning

And, here’s some more great news: Nancy Coco (aka Nancy J. Parra & Nell Hampton) will be releasing Oh, Fudge! in August of this year, which those of you who have visited my Soon to be Released Mysteries page already know. However, the really great news is that there will be at least two more Cozies in her Candy-Coated Mystery Series after this sixth one is released!

Now here’s some great news for Cozy Mystery readers who enjoy crafting! Mollie Cozy Bryan will be releasing her third book (Macramé Murder) which will be followed by a fourth book in her Cora Crafts Mystery Series. This fourth Cozy will be about a retreat for the mothers of children who have just returned back to school after spending their summers at home.

For those of us who are looking forward to Cynthia Riggs‘ 13th book in her Vineyard Mystery Series (Trumpet of Death), you’ll be happy to know that Victoria Trumbull will not be slowing down her crime-solving. Yes, this senior sleuth will be back in a 14th book!

Tonya Kappes, author of the Ghostly Southern Mystery Series as well as several other Cozy Mystery series, will be writing a new series called the Southern Baking Mystery Series. The starring sleuth will be a pastry chef who goes back home to make the wedding cake for her best friend. Oh, oh, that may mean that the wedding doesn’t go quite as expected!

Carole Buggé, the author of the Claire Rawlings Mystery Series has just signed a contract to start a new mystery series. She will be writing a series that focuses on a Jane Austen society that makes its home in a small, Cozy British village. The first book is slated to be called Pride and Prejudice and Poison.

Yow! That’s a whole lot of Cozy Mystery news!
