Cozy Mystery News – March 2019

March 8, 2019

March has another great set of news for Cozy Mystery enthusiasts, so I’m going to jump right into it!

First up, Joelle Charbonneau , who you may know as the author of both the Glee Club Mystery Series and the Rebecca Robbins Mystery Series has some news.  She will be releasing a pair of books in a new series, Verify, which sounds like a pair of science-fiction mysteries, for young adults, much like her very popular The Testing Thriller Series. (It looks to me like Joelle has made a very good transition from the Cozy Mystery genre to the Young Adult mysteries!)

Next up, Ann Cleeves (who is a not-quite-Cozy author, but very popular) will be putting out The Long Call, the first entry in her new Two Rivers  Mystery Series. This series will star a new detective in Devon, the UK, who has returned home to discover a secret at the heart of the community. Ann Cleeves is of course the author of the Shetland Island Mystery Series, starring detective Jimmy Perez, and the Vera Stanhope Mystery Series, starring police detective Vera Stanhope.

Here’s some great news for those of us who are Josie Prescott fans! Jane K. Cleland  (an Agatha Award recipient) will be releasing the 13th novel in her Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery Series. Josie is an antiques dealer in coastal New Hampshire who happens to have a penchant for solving crimes. The new novel will be titled Hidden Treasure. (I told you this is great news!)

Kaitlyn Dunnett will be putting out two more books in her Deadly Edits Mystery Series.  As an editor, Mikki Lincoln  has developed the skill of noticing every little detail, which helps her in her sleuthing. Kaitlyn Dunnett also writes the Liss MacCrimmon Mystery Series, and as Kathy Lynn Emerson, she writes the Elizabethan Mystery Series, the Lady Susanna Appleton Mystery Series, and the Diana Spaulding Mystery Series. It’s always a treat to find out one of your favorite Cozy Mystery authors plans to release two more Cozies!

For those of you who subscribe to some of Annie’s Mystery Series, here’s some news I’m pretty sure you’re enjoy hearing about: Elizabeth Penney will be writing three books that will kick off the Apron Shop Mystery Series. The series will feature a sleuth who not only solves murders in Blueberry Cove, Maine – but she also manages to find time to run a vintage apron boutique.

Finally, Hank Phillippi Ryan (another not-quite-Cozy mystery author on the site) will be releasing The Murder List, which is a stand-alone novel. This will be a thriller about law student Rachel North who is quite sure she knows exactly how everything in her life is going… or does she? Hank Phillippi Ryan is the award winning author who writes the Jane Ryland Mystery Series, starring a newspaper reporter, and the Charlotte McNally Mystery Series, starring a television reporter.

And that wraps up this month’s mystery news!

Cozy Mystery News – February 2019

February 8, 2019

Wow, this is quite a great lineup of news! I’ve got way more than normal to share this month, so I’m just going to jump right into it!

First, Bailey Cates will be putting out two more in the Magical Bakery Mystery Series, starring Katie Lightfoot, bakery owner in Savannah, Georgia. This is the only series (so far!) written under the name Bailey Cates, but the same author also writes the Enchanted Garden Mystery Series as Bailey Cattrell, and the Home Crafting Mystery Series under the name Cricket McRae.

Jessica Ellicott will be writing three more mysteries in the Beryl and Edwina Mystery Series, bringing this historical Cozy Mystery series to a total of (at least) six entries. Jessica Ellicott also writes the Sugar Grove Mystery Series and the Granite State Mystery Series under the name Jessie Crockett, as well as the Change of Fortune Mystery Series under the name Jessica Estevao.

Lots of big news for fans of Amanda Flower – she’ll be releasing a third entry in the Magic Garden Mystery Series, three novellas in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series, and will also be starting a new series titled the Farm to Table Mystery Series, which will star a woman returning home to run her father’s organic farm who (naturally!) ends up suspected of murder. Amanda Flower also writes the Magical Bookshop Mystery Series, the Living History Museum Mystery Series, the Appleseed Creek Mystery Series, the India Hayes Mystery Series, and (as Isabella Alan) the Amish Quilt Shop Mystery Series. (And, as if all of the above isn’t enough, this Agatha Award  author also writes the Andi Boggs Mystery Series for children!)

Next up is some great news for those of you who enjoy Victoria Gilbert’s Cozies! Victoria Gilbert will be starting a new Cozy series, the Booklover’s B & B Mystery Series, which will star a young widow who inherits a literary-themed Bed and Breakfast in Beaufort, North Carolina. At least two entries in the series are confirmed – with the first book titled Booked for Death. (Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?) Victoria Gilbert also writes the Blue Ridge Library Mystery Series, starring a former university librarian now managing a public library in Virginia.

On with February’s Cozy Mystery News!

Anna Lee Huber will be releasing a fourth in the Verity Kent Mystery Series, which stars a widow from the Great War who worked for the Secret Service, set in the late 1910s and 1920s. Anna Lee Huber also writes the Lady Darby Mystery Series, another historical series, this one set in the 1830s and starring the wife of a deceased anatomist in Scotland.

And here’s some great news for all of us who are fans of either Erika Chase or Linda Wiken! Essie Lang will be the third moniker by this very same author. That’s right, the same author of the Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery Series (written as Erika Chase) and the author of the Dinner Club Mystery Series (as Linda Wiken) will be writing the brand new Cozy Mystery series called the Castle Bookshop Mystery Series. Hmmm… Castle? That’s right. Shelby Cox is an ex-editor and the current bookstore co-owner of one bookstore in Alexandria Bay, New York and also the co-owner and manager of another bookstore that is situated in a castle on an island. The first book is titled Trouble on the Books.

Next up, Meg London will be starting a new Cozy Mystery Series starring an American gothic novelist who works at a bookshop in Upper Chumley-on-Stoke, in England. (I’m not sure whether she’ll be writing as Meg or Margaret London – I’ll keep you posted.) Meg London also writes the Sweet Nothings Vintage Lingerie Mystery Series, but may be better known as Peg Cochran, under which name she writes the Farmer’s Daughter Mystery Series, the Cranberry Cove Mystery Series, the Murder, She Reported Mystery Series, the Lucille Mystery Series, and the Gourmet De-Lite Mystery Series.

Edith Maxwell will be releasing Judge Thee Not, the next in her Quaker Midwife Mystery Series, a historical series set in the late 1880s in Massachusetts. Edith Maxwell also writes the Local Foods Mystery Series, starring an organic farmer in Massachusetts, the Country Store Mystery Series starring the owner of a store in South Lick, Indiana (under the name Maddie Day), and the Speaking of Mystery Mystery Series, starring a Quaker linguistics professor in a New England small college town (under the name Tace Baker). Pretty terrific news!

Finally, Dorothy St. James will be starting a new series, starting with The Broken Spine, starring a small-town librarian who sets up a secret book room in her library. Dorothy St. James also writes the Southern Chocolate Shop Mystery Series, starring a chocolate shop owner in South Carolina, and the White House Gardener Mystery Series, starring an assistant White House gardener. (Oh, and more great Dorothy St. James news: her 4th Southern Chocolate Shop Cozy is scheduled to be released this October!)

Wow, that’s sure a long news post! I hope there’s at least one good piece of news for each of you!

Cozy Mystery News – January 2019

January 8, 2019

Well, it looks like 2019 will be a good year for Cozies, if the news from this month is any indication.

First, Julia Buckley will be starting a new series, the Hungarian Tea House Mystery Series. The first in the series will be titled Death in a Budapest Butterfly, and should be coming out in July. She’s also continuing the Writer’s Apprentice Mystery Series with at least two more novels on the way, one of which (Death Waits in the Dark) is due out in April. Buckley is also the author of the Undercover Dish Mystery Series and the Madeline Mann Mystery Series. This is a whole lot of good news for those of us who follow Julia Buckley’s Cozies!

And now for some more great news: Laura Levine will be writing more of her Jaine Austen Mystery Series. Her 17th book (Death of a Gigolo) is due out this year and Laura Levine has gotten the green light to write at least two more after that one. (Didn’t I say it’s great news?) So, Jaine will be able to continue doing her freelance writing for years to come, not to mention her sleuthing!

Finally, Jess Lourey will be writing a fictionalized account of the Jacob Wetterling abduction – not exactly Cozy, but as a “true crime” styled novel it does fit as a mystery-adjacent subject. It will be titled The Devil in the Dirt Basement. Lourey is the author of the Murder By Month Mystery Series, starring a reporter and librarian in Minnesota.

Looks like a great set of Cozy mystery announcements to start off the new year!

Cozy Mystery News – December 2018

December 11, 2018

December is always a busy month for Cozy Mysteries, what with Christmas and Hanukkah and other festive holidays, but this month it’s busy for another reason – I’ve got a good amount of Cozy Mystery news to report!

First up, it’s been confirmed that Lynn Cahoon will be writing more entries in her Farm-to-Fork Mystery Series, with at least two more books coming past the planned third entry which should be released in March 2019. This means the series will have at least five Cozies! That’s pretty fast growth for the series >>> which is terrific news for those of us who are enjoying the series. Lynn Cahoon is the USA Today and New York Times bestselling author who also writes the Tourist Trap Mystery Series and the Cat Latimer Mystery Series.

Next, Josi S. Kilpack will be releasing The Candy Cane Caper, which will be the 13th entry in her Culinary Mystery Series starring homemaker Sadie Hoffmiller. This is especially good news for fans of this series, as there hasn’t been an entry since 2014, leaving it uncertain to many of us if the series would be continuing at all! And of course, for those of us who enjoy Christmas Cozies, this addition will be very welcome…

S.J. Rozan will be releasing Paper Son, the 12th entry in the Bill Smith & Lydia Chin Mystery Series, which will be another good news post for those who are fans of this series, as the last entry in this particular series was released in 2011! It’s always great to see a series return like this, and hearing that several will be revived at once is especially good news!

Finally, Victoria Thompson will be releasing at least two more in her very, very popular Gaslight Mystery Series, bringing that long-running series up to at least 24 entries. And as if this isn’t enough great news, she will also be releasing a third (and hopefully lots more!) in her much newer Counterfeit Lady Mystery Series!

Wow, that’s a lot of great Cozy Mystery News! As I said above, I’m especially excited to be able to report that two series are coming back after significant breaks! It’s always a shame when a series ends unexpectedly, but seeing it come back is always a great surprise!
