Journalists / Reporters in (Cozy) Mysteries, Pt. 2 (of 3) H – M

A journalist seeks out stories that other professionals (other than detectives – either private or police officers) don’t generally try to find, and subsequently solve. Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many journalist/reporter sleuths who star in the mysteries that we love to read. Here is the second part of the three part list of authors (with lasts names beginning with H – M) who are on the Cozy Mystery Site and who happen to write series which feature reporter / journalist sleuths:

Carolyn Haines: Dixon Sinclair Mystery Series is set in Mississippi.

Parnell Hall: Puzzle Lady Mystery Series features a woman who pretends to be the puzzle lady.

David Handler: Berger & Mitry Mystery Series features a film critic.

Carolyn G. Hart: Henrie O Mystery Series features a 70-something reporter in South Carolina.

Ellen Hart: Sophie Greenway Mystery Series has an editor and food critic as its sleuth.

Lee Hollis: Hayley Powell Food & Cocktail Mystery Series has the newspaper’s food column writer as its sleuth.

Hazel Holt: Mrs. Malory Mystery Series features a literary critic.

Charlotte Hughes & Janet Evanovich: Full Mystery Series has, as its protagonist, a newspaper editor.

Julie Hyzy: Alex St. James Mystery Series is set in a Chicago TV station.

Roberta Islieb: Advice Column Mystery Series features an advice columnist.

J.A. Jance: Alison Reynolds Mystery Series is set in Arizona and features a blogger.

Lucille Kallen: C. B. Greenfield Mystery Series has both a reporter and an editor as the sleuths.

Toni L.P. Kelner: Where Are They Now? Mystery Series features a journalist in Boston.

Mary Kennedy: Talk Show Radio Mystery Series features an ex-psychologist who takes up hosting a talk show in Florida.

Lisa Kleinholz: Zoe Szabo Mystery Series features an ex-Rolling Stone reporter.

Joyce Krieg: Talk Radio Mystery Series features a talk show hostess.

Janet Laurence: Darina Lisle Mystery Series revolves around a British food columnist.

Joyce and Jim Lavene: Pet Psychic Mystery Series features a talk show pet psychic.

Kathryn Lilley: Fat City Mystery Series features a TV journalist who happens to be a little overweight.

T.C. LoTempio: Nick and Nora Mystery Series features Nora, a crime reporter.

Jess Lourey: Murder by the Month Mystery Series features a reporter who is also a librarian.

Gail Lukasik: Leigh Girard Mystery Series revolves around a breast cancer survivor who is a journalist.

Amanda Matetsky: Paige Turner Mystery Series features an editorial assistant AND Annie March Mystery Series features a freelance author.

Alyssa Maxwell: Gilded Newport Mystery Series has, as its sleuth, Emmaline Cross, a reporter at the end of the 19th century.

Neil McGaughey: Stokes Moran Mystery Series is about a mystery critic in Connecticut.

Leslie Meier: Lucy Stone Mystery Series – Lucy is a reporter for the Pennysaver.

Kaye Morgan: Sudoku Mystery Series features a Sudoko creator.

Melinda Mullet: Whisky Business Mystery Series – Abi Logan is a Scottish photojournalist.

Tim Myers (aka Chris Cavender, Casey Mayes, Elizabeth Bright, & Melissa Glazer) Slow Cooker Mystery Series – Sarah Jacobs has a column in her local paper.

Hank Phillippi Ryan: Charlotte McNally Mystery Series features a television reporter.

Journalists / Reporters in (Cozy) Mysteries, Pt. 1 (of 3) A – G

There are quite a few mystery authors who started out as journalists. Perhaps this is the reason that there are so many mystery authors who have reporters / journalists as their sleuths. What better profession for your main character to have than something with which you are very knowledgeable. Also, a journalist/reporter is someone who is paid to seek out a story, solve a mystery (of sorts), delve into areas into which others may not feel comfortable doing so. Here is a list of authors (with lasts names beginning with A – G) who are on the Cozy Mystery Site and who happen to write series which feature reporter / journalist sleuths :

Rebecca Adler: Taste of Texas Mystery Series stars a former journalist and current head waitress in Texas.

Sheryl J. Anderson: Molly Forrester Mystery Series features a “Dear Abby” type of columnist in New York City.

Sandra Balzo: Main Street Mystery Series features a reporter who moves to a resort town in North Carolina.

Jo Bannister: Primrose Holland Mystery Series has, as it’s main character, an English advice columnist AND Mickey Flynn Series features a North American photojournalist.

K.K. Beck: Iris Cooper & Jack Clancy Mystery Series takes place during the 1920s.

Lillian Bell (aka Kristi Abbott, Eileen Rendahl, & Eileen Carr): Funeral Parlor Mystery Series – Desiree Turner is an ex-journalist who changes professions big-time to become a funeral director in California.

Laura Bradford: Jenkins & Burns Mystery Series features a reporter and a detective in New Jersey.

Lilian Jackson Braun: The Cat Who *** Mystery Series features Koko, Yum Yum, and Jim Qwilleran.

Kathleen Bridge: Hamptons Home & Garden Mystery Series features Meg Barrett, former Home & Gardens writer.

Edna Buchanan: Britt Montero Mystery Series features one tough Miami reporter.

Julia Buckley: Madeline Mann Mystery Series stars a small town reporter.

Jan Burke: Irene Kelly Mystery Series is about a reporter in California.

Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli (aka Elizabeth Lee): Emily Kincaid Mystery Series is set in Michigan.

Ellen Byerrum: Crime of Fashion Mystery Series features a fashion columnist.

Helen Chappell: Sam & Hollis Mystery Series features a very much “alive” reporter and her very dead ex-husband.

Edie Claire: Leigh Koslow Mystery Series features an advertising copywriter.

Margaret Coel: Catherine McLeod Mystery Series is set in Denver.

Jeffrey Cohen: Aaron Tucker Mystery Series revolves around a screenwriter.

Susan Conant: Dog Lover’s Mystery Series features a writer for a dog magazine.

Vivian Conroy: Lady Alkmene Callender Mystery Series – She’s a British aristocrat in London during the 1920s who partners with Jake Dubois, a reporter.

Sharon Love Cook: Rosie McNichols Mystery Series has Rosie working as a newspaper reporter in a coastal village.

Barbara D’Amato: Cat Marsala Mystery Series is set in Chicago.

Mary Daheim: Emma Lord Alpine Mystery Series features the editor/owner of a Washington (state) newspaper.

Rae Davies: Dusty Deals Mystery Series stars a former reporter turned antiques dealer.

Claire Donally writes the Sunny & Shadow Mystery Series. Sunny is a newspaper reporter.

Carola Dunn: Daisy Dalrymple Mystery Series is set in 1920s’ England.

Kate Dyer-Seeley (aka Ellie Alexander): Pacific Northwest Mystery Series

Janet Evanovich & Charlotte Hughes: Full Mystery Series has, as its protagonist, a newspaper editor.

Anthea Fraser: Rona Parish Mystery Series stars a British biographer and journalist.

Antonia Fraser: Jemima Shore Mystery Series features a British TV journalist.

Shelly Fredman: Brandy Alexander Mystery Series is set in Philadelphia.

The largest city is Baltimore, and the state capital is Annapolis.

Here are some Fun Iowa Facts:
State capital is Des Moines.
State bird is the Eastern Goldfinch
State flower is the Wild Prairie Rose.
State motto is “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.”
Iowa gets its name from the French word that was used to describe the region’s Bah-kho-je Indian tribe.
