Starting My Christmas Reading Way Too Early…

October 21, 2011

I have decided to start reading my Christmas mystery books early. I want to make it through a few of my Christmas theme mysteries this year, and as I have said before, I am finding less and less of my time is spent reading. Also, I am in the mood for frost on the windows, hot coco, and cold weather, and bodies >>> which can usually be found in mystery books.

When I start a new mystery, I usually have a “back-up book” sitting on my night table. If the author is someone who I consider a favorite author, I don’t need the back-up… but if I am trying a new-to-me author I always have a “spare mystery” ready to grab in the middle of the night.

I am going to begin reading a Christmas anthology tonight. One of the things that I really like about anthologies is that I can “try” new authors and decide if I want to add them to my list of authors who I read… I get to sample their writing by reading a mystery novella rather than a whole book.

I am not familiar with any of the authors in the book I have chosen to start with, so I have my “spare” ready to grab… just in case. The mystery book is called The Last Noel, and the authors are: Steve Brewer, Catherine Dain, Mat Coward, and Linda Berry. I am really looking forward to reading it, so that I can try out all of these new-to-me authors.

Next on the agenda: Mistletoe and Mayhem. This is another anthology, but with this one, I am already familiar with (and enjoy!) some of the authors. The authors include Katherine Hall Page, Christie Ridgway, Judi McCoy, and Joanne Pence. I’m looking forward to reading this mystery anthology right after I finish the first one… and then I’m on to a Kate Kingsbury Christmas mystery.

Enough about me! Are any of you reading a mystery book that you wouldn’t mind telling us about? (I’m always nosy and want to know what you all are reading!)

P. D. James & Jane Austen: Death Comes to Pemberley with Pride and Prejudice

October 13, 2011

Here is some very important news for all of you P. D. James fans: She has just finished a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice! Yes, it’s true! The book, Death Comes to Pemberley, will be available in the USA in December, and a month earlier in Great Britain.

According to James, it took her two years to complete this project, and she does not plan on doing anything like this again. James has long been a fan of Jane Austen, as well as crimes. So, what better way to follow up Pride and Prejudice than with a murder at Pemberley?!?

If you want more information, go check out The Associated Press. They are responsible for “breaking the story.”

October 4, 2011

I have added six new authors to the Cozy Mystery site, and this time, they are really NEW! Actually, one of them is a very popular Cozy Mystery author who a lot of you might already follow, but she is now writing a new Cozy Mystery series under a new pseudonym.

Ella Barrick   Barrick, an ex-college English teacher, writes the NEW Ballroom Dance Mystery Series… Stacy Graysin is a co-owner of a ballroom dance studio in Alexandria, Virginia.

Melissa Bourbon (aka Misa Ramirez)    Bourbon, an ex-teacher, writes the NEW Magical Dressmaking Mystery Series. This series, has as its sleuth, Harlow Cassidy, owner of a boutique dressmaking shop in Texas. Harlow gets help from beyond the grave when solving her mysteries. (As Ramirez, she writes the Lola Cruz Mystery Series.)

Allison Kingsley    Kingsley is also known as Kate Kingsbury and Rebecca Kent. As Kingsley, she is now writing the NEW Raven’s Nest Bookstore Mystery Series. Two cousins (Clara and Stephanie Quinn) own the bookstore in Maine. Clara has psychic abilities which help when solving mysteries.

Liz Lipperman (aka Liz Roth)  Lipperman, a registered nurse, writes the NEW Clueless Cook Mystery Series which is set in Texas. Jordan McAllister does not know how to cook, but that doesn’t stop her from becoming a newspaper food critic.

Mary Moody   Moody has her MBA, which might come in handy when writing the NEW Lucy St. Elmo Antiques Mystery Series. Lucy is an antiques shop owner (as well as a sleuth) in Massachusetts.

Kari Lee Townsend   Townsend has her Masters in English Education, and writes the NEW Fortune Teller Mystery Series. Sunshine Meadows is a fortune teller in New York. Townsend also writes the Samantha Granger Experiment Series for middle school-age children.
