I just got word that the 2013 Nero Award Nominees have been picked. The Nero Awards are given to authors who write mystery novels similar to the way Rex Stout wrote his Nero Wolfe mystery books – which are definitely classic mysteries.
The Wolfe Pack is a society of literary people who, simply put, love everything about Nero Wolfe (Rex Stout’s main sleuth – although Archie Goodwin might think he’s the main sleuth!) The Wolfe Pack hosts the Black Orchid Banquet each year, during December – on the first Saturday of that month. It is at this time that the winners is announced.
Here are the 2013 Nero Award Nominees:
Barbara Allan: Antiques Disposal
Kieran Shields: The Truth of All Things
Loren D. Estleman: Burning Midnight
Chris Knopf: Dead Anyway
Congratulations to all the 2013 Nero Award Nominees!

I love the Nero Wolfe mysteries – am current re-reading Robert Goldsborough’s follow-on mysteries and watching the old TV series on DVD. Thanks for this list.

Marge, I just looked up the old Nero Wolfe mysteries with William Conrad. I didn’t even know this show existed. Thanks for telling us. I’m going to see if I can find it.
Donna says
Wow, I’ve never heard of those, either! Please post if you find a link to it. Would love to see it.

I’ll make sure to mention William Conrad’s Nero Wolfe show if I ever find it!
Judith says
I’d forgotten about the Nero Wolfe series with William Conrad and Lee Horsely! I have the A&E Nero Wolfe with Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton. When I first heard about it, I was dubious about Timothy Hutton as Archie Goodwin, but the show was fantastic.
Julia says
I loved the A&E version of the Nero Wolfe books too; the repertory company aspect of them (where not only the sleuths but the villains and victims were regulars) was a really unusual choice, but I think it really allowed you to focus on the characters and the stories instead of the actors.
Ellen G says
I always have to listen to the Wolfe mysteries. Otherwise I go so fast I miss all the critical clues. They make great companions on long trips.

Ellen G, I’ll have to take a look at audible and see if Rex Stout’s unabridged mysteries are available. Thanks for the tip!
