Do any of this blog’s readers have a Kindle 2? And if you do, would you mind posting a comment about what you like about it? OR What you don’t like about it?
My husband has been talking to me about getting a Kindle 2… but as usual, whenever he wants me to “enter the 21st century” >>> I resist. I’m just not sure about it yet.
Actually, I think he should get one! His eyesight has gotten to a point where reading in bed is no longer a fun activity for him. He has to take his glasses off and hold the book so close to his eyes that it’s just not relaxing for him. I, on the other hand, am able to just ramp up my (grocery store) reading glasses numbers.
I like the idea of being able to download a book so quickly, without having to get any electrical cords or machines involved. I’m just not sure I’d use it enough to justify its very high price tag.
I never go to any type of appointment without either a hard-copy or an audio book…. NEVER! I know I have blogged before about how incredulous I find it when I see people arriving at an appointment with absolutely no reading material to keep them (!!!or even their children!!!) entertained during the ever-increasing waiting time. (I have recently noticed more and more professionals’ waiting rooms featuring flat-screen TVs which invariably have some awful PG B movie on an endless loop. I guess the office managers have simply gotten tired of subscribing to generic golfing magazines – since those invariably end up walking right out of the office!)
I like that the Kindle 2 font-size can be changed ( think it has two font sizes.) My husband could benefit from this feature. I also like that the Kindle 2 is thin enough to fit in my purse and that it holds many books and magazines. I just don’t like the high price tag!
So, at this time, I’d like to ask those of you out there who have a Kindle 2 to please post a comment. I’m interested in hearing from you…
PS>>>> After looking into the Kindle 2 in more detail, we have decided that it is definitely not for us. I have posted an entry describing why right here.

Hi Danna, A couple of the features is that it can also read to u if u want it to and u don’t have to take a lot of books on vacation when u go. I too want to get one but am in the same boat as u. The price is high. I like the feel and holding of a book, and reading it and how they look on my bookshelves but on the other hand, if u buy it don’t have to worry about books cluttering up your house. One thing people say is if u go over seas your kindle 2 does not work there only in the united states. Anxious to hear what the readers have to say about it also. I only buy about 8 books a year so don’t think it would be that good for me to get though, but u never know.

Hi Alfred,
Alfred, as far as I can see, once the books are in your Kindle 2, they can be listened to overseas. As for buying new books while abroad, I’m not sure… I wonder if you could buy them and download them from the Amazon UK?

I am in resist mode of getting a Kindle 2, so far. I love the feel of a handheld book or an audiobook in my car for my 50 mile roundtrip commute for work. Like you, I keep a purse book at all times for waiting in line, for an appointment, etc. I’ve been known to get a little pissy if my docs are on time! = )
I treasure my reading time.
I haven’t seen one up close and personal, so not sure how big or small they are. If they fit in my purse, maybe. If I could remember to bring it upstairs with me for my bedside reading…maybe….
I like having three or more books going at once and I’m not sure a Kindle 2 would do it for me. I know DH would love having fewer books in my closet or on the nightstand or in the drawers that don’t hold clothes.

Hi Vickie,
I know that you and I have “talked” about our reading time in doctors’ offices before >>> a book sure makes the time “more enjoyable.”
I hope that someone who owns a Kindle 2 can help with your questions…. As for taking the gizmo upstairs at night…. I doubt they can help with that!
P.S. Last night my husband started talking about how much he misses reading in bed, and now he is thinking about getting a Kindle 2 for himself… I reminded him that I am always looking for birthday/Christmas gifts for him… and could always combine his November birthday with Christmas… We’ll see…

That would be a sweeet birthday/Christmas gift for your DH. I love when they help with the hints. = )
