Every year when I go through TCM’s December schedule I peak ahead to see if we will be seeing Myrna Loy, William Powell, and Asta do some crime-busting. This year is no different, as The Thin Man movies have almost become a December tradition. They’re the types of movies some of us want to watch every time they are on. What a delightful way for us Cozy Mystery lovers to ring in 2020!

And, this being December, I am going to include some of the old Christmas classics on the list of mystery movies that will be playing during December. For those of you who enjoy Christmas movies, not only will TCM be playing some, but the Hallmark and Lifetime channels will be playing lots and lots of them. (Just click here if you would like to see my entry about the Hallmark 2019 Christmas movies.)

If you’re a dog-lover, then you ought to check out TCM’s schedule for Wednesday, December 4. I’m an absolute dog-lover, however, I do NOT like movies that feature animals. For some reason, even though I know the movies are fictitious, I don’t like seeing any type of animal in perilous situations… which an “animal movie” usually has to have in order to create the everything-turns-out-great ending. Anyway, if you like movies that feature dogs, you might want to tune in to TCM that day. Also, Wednesday, December 11 is featuring horse movies and Wednesday, December 18 is featuring an assortment of different animal movies. (Ditto on why I won’t be watching any of them!)

***** ***** ***** *****

Sunday – December 1st

9:00 AM
THE MASK OF DIMITRIOS (1944)
A meek novelist investigates the mysterious death of a notorious scoundrel.
Dir: Jean Negulesco Cast: Sydney Greenstreet, Zachary Scott, Faye Emerson.
BW- 96 mins, CC

11:00 AM
LADY IN THE LAKE (1947)
Philip Marlowe searches for a missing woman in this mystery shot entirely from the detective’s viewpoint.
Dir: Robert Montgomery Cast: Robert Montgomery, Audrey Totter, Lloyd Nolan.
BW- 103 mins, CC

1:00 PM
LITTLE WOMEN (1949)
The four daughters of a New England family fight for happiness during and after the Civil War.
Dir: Mervyn LeRoy Cast: June Allyson, Peter Lawford, Margaret O’Brien.
C- 122 mins, CC
*****This has a Christmas scene in it.
